Called walmart, good to go at midnight. As excited as i am for the wii u i can't but think that nintendo is missing out on huge chance here. Fine the specs aren't the greatest, but I still feel the system is launching without a true killer app. Reminds me a lot of the gamecube, ds and 3ds launches.

I just cleared my wii out of my entertainment center and reconnected it on the floor for easy pick up once i do the transfer.

That's always the case with consoles after 5-6 years. Many people expect new ones to close that gap as much as possible, not just to maintain the status quo. If what we're hearing about next PS and Xbox is true, they won't match high end PCs, but should provide enough of a jump that it won't matter, considering that most PC users now 'waste' PC power on rendering in insanely high resolutions that the consoles won't ever need to support on a TV.
For me personally, WiiU is right now not exciting not for the reason of tech (I think tech in it is mostly good enough) but because so far I haven't seen a game that I can't wait to play on it.

Just saw a Walmart commercial for the Wii U and 3DS XL. Seems the ads are expanding beyond simply NOA doing them. Walmarts was advertising the fact you can get both on their credit card and not pay anything for so long etc to be an ultimate parent for Christmas.

Just called a bunch of stores to see if they would have a midnight launch. Luckily, one Best Buy said there are and that only 5 or so people were waiting outside. The best news was that the person I talked to said they had 30 Deluxes and 17 Basics in stock.

Anyone knows if any stores in US are having some promotions for Wii U games tomorrow? I know Toys'R'Us have one ( buy 1 get 1 40 %off) but it ends tonight and I won't be able to get to the store tonight

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
I checked in with my Gamestop just to make sure there was no Midnight launch. No luck. Funny thing is they sent a text message saying my system would be available for pickup "Sunday AM", which could mean Sunday 12:01 AM.
Anyways, if I'm not at a movie tonight I may swing by the usual suspects, TRU, Wal Mart, Best Buy, to see if I can at least pickup a game or two. Not too interested in giving any more of my business to Gamestop.

Considering getting Nintendoland as a digital download instead of disc. Seems like the kind of title you'd want to have easy access to for most of the generation.

Not in america, but I think you can use the already released Wii arcade sticks. I picked one up just for the occasion.
Hoping this is the case, I recall the Hori one that's supposed to be released hooks up to the wii remote, so after the announcement I bought a cheap tatsunoko stick.

That's horrible...
I would say it's the perfect tech given the context (the Wii and what constitutes mainstream hardware today). Ideally, yeah, I'd love to see another N64-style powerhouse (cartridges aside) but I think hardware is going a different way and we might not ever see that kind of high performance divergence from market hardware. But good games is good games and Nintendo's first party lineup generally guarantees a worthwhile experience, in my opinion of course as I totally understand with your lack of excitement.

lol but who really was getting a Wii U just for Zombie U? And after watching that Gamespot review, it did look a little meh. But that might just be how it was recorded/what he showed, etc. I know the game is compared to Dark Souls, but I don't really think it'll be that deep. Especially if the game is only like 10 hours long.
Just gonna have the included Nintendoland, whatever demos are available, and rent NSMBU if I can.

Out of annoyance at GameStop not opening until 11AM, I called my local Wal-Mart to see if they'd be doing any odd hours for the launch. No luck. The electronics manager says if you don't have a pre-order, you're not getting one.. he then proceeded to recommend trying the nearby GameStop.
