Awesome! My WiiU is "Out for delivery". All I have to do now is get through this very long and boring work day of preping for a GAU-21 .50Cal gunshoot.

I'm torn. I skipped the Wii because of a lack of HD. Early impressions on U aren't that great but I really want to play some HD Mario U...

The system is worth it. It has some launch issues, but every console does.
I would recommend waiting a few months for more people to get one and more stuff to come out. Nintendo will patch what needs to be fixed by then probably too.

Well mine is already on the way. I preordered from Toys R Us. Two Wii-motes are required for 2 player right?

When I was playing Nintendo Land on Saturday, my plaza was filling up with real people's Mii's and they would even show up on the left side of the screen as kinda objectives to find them. When you would find them and click on them you would get coins based on what achievements they had gotten. So things like 'millionaire', 'new comer', 'adventurer', 'multiplayer gamer' and things like that. And you would get a coin for each thing.

When I played yesterday that feature was no longer working. Has anyone else seen this?

So I got Basic + BO2 + ZombiU

I am enjoying my WiiU experiences. My only complain so far. The OS is so slow but I got used to it already.. I will pick up Mario soon..

I have some questions regarding the system:

MiiVerse: I can access it via the main menu. However when I'm in-game and try to post something to MiiVerse, it says to go and configure it first. What gives? Am I missing something?

WiiMote pointer: Can I use the WiiMote to point at the screen in the main menu for example? I don't want to use the Wiipad at all times, especially when I'm playing coop Mario with my wife. I know I can use the + to navigate but it feels like using a mouse only for its buttons.

Also, I wasn't able to play the Zelda minigame in NintendoLand since it wanted me to point the WiiMotes at the screen but even as I was pointing, it didn't seem to register it even though the sensor bar sits on top on my TV and I was pointing at the right place.

Thanks to anyone that can answer me.

I feel kinda bad hoping that my shipped Deluxe system doesn't arrive until later this week. It's almost as if I hope they release another big patch before I experience the system for the first time.

Reading some of the hate on here has made me consider returning it before I even play it. I got mine yesterday, but haven't hooked it up yet.

I'll just say this: I've had more fun with Nintendoland in a day than I had with the entirety of Wii Sports.

What an amazing game for local multiplayer.

Well I brought it home yesterday and it was the most frustrating launch I have ever had.
For 3 hours I couldn't connect to my wifi, I found out online I had to enter all information and set it up manually, after the update however I still have issues connecting or staying connected so today I will be buying a USB adapter and going wired.
I only played 2 levels of Mario and it was fun but a bit underwhelming.
The os feels slow but if it wasn't being pointed out by so many people I think I might not have focused on it so much.

I'm excited and hopeful that Nintendo will turn this thing around but right now I have severe buyers remorse, I'm at school right now so tonight I will mess around with it a bit more and see how that works out.

Any Sing Party impressions? I love karaoke and I take singing lessons so I thought it might be a fun way to practice + play with drunk friends. Also is there a song list online anywhere?

Globe and Mail Article:
Nintendo’s first Wii U system update was issued as promised on Sunday, and with it some of the new consoles online capabilities now active. All told, the console’s firmware – complete with update – takes up seven gigabytes of hard drive space, which means that buyers of the basic 8 GB version won’t have much left over.

lol.

I know we had conflicting reports that the size is around 5GB and now it's been said it's only around 1GB, but where did they get 7GB from ...

Does it say the size of the update when you download it under your data management? I'm curious.

Alas, I have work, today, so hopefully someone is home when they get here. (usually packages get delivered at around 4-6)

Can't wait to get on it and update for an hour or two.
Gonna love Ninty-Land and the browser, and gonna dust of Skyward Sword after transfarring my saves...

I heard that it doesn't take up an extra gig, as it deletes the old data upon completion. That's some pretty shocking journalism.

I'm not sure but it deletes it afterwords from what I recall.

We played a little last night. If you're used to something like Singstar, this may feel a bit barebones and first gen iteration in many ways, but it does a couple of neat things. The one nice thing is you can queue up songs while someone else is singing. It really speeds up the whole process. The song selection is pretty diverse but there's a lack of music videos. Still not sure how I feel about it yet. There are some neat things so far though.

It can't be 7GB cause wouldn't people with the basic system be unable to update without an external HDD?

Taken from the other thread.

Hooked it up on my upstairs TV so my wife could see my shiny new toy.

Immediately tested out the gameplay to tablet switch feature and it worked flawlessly. Playing a full blown AC3 on the go while roaming the main floor of my house? FUCKING AMAZING. My bathroom on my main floor is quite close but I was able to play on the can with the door closed. The remote control feature is even better because I can switch from console to table on the fly + switch to my wife's channel for her is even better. Seriously this system is convenient!

Audio is very clean too, glad to see we get 7.1 LPCM out of the box, games sound great on my home theater setup. There were some technical issues, I had 1 lockup and seems the loading is a bit excessive. But these are launch jitters.

Nintendoland is very fun and my wife isn't a gamer but she loved it. In particular the Luigi's Mansion and Mario Chase games.

Very impressive visuals, glad to finally see Nintendo games in HD. Mario U is pretty as shit.

Don't even get me started about ZombieU.... SYSTEM SELLER RIGHT THERE.

SURVIVAL HORROR IS BACK.

TL:DR very impressive showing Nintendo can't wait to see the 2nd gen titles

This. The 8GB has around 5GBs free I recall. It being just over 1GB (then deleting itself) makes the most sense. The download was just really slow because so many were hitting the server.

Hm, okay. I called NoA and made a new support ticket. I told the guy that it appears to be an issue with 3DS transfer, and that other people have this problem. Of course they couldn't do anything about it right now.

Thanks! :D

Hey Pineconn I found a way to fix the issue
no thanks to nintendo support
. All you need to do is edit your Mii rather it be the hair or whatever and save it. Then it should fix the issue.

1. not sure, never had that problem.
2. yeah, just sync the wiimote to the wii u and u can control it.

JRPGs rarely launch with systems, and the ones that do are usually very poor in quality. That said, nowadays I'm just happy when a decent JRPG releases in the US at all. Even in Japan, though, RPGs rarely launch with systems.

Not saying it couldn't have happened nowadays, perhaps with a port of a game for a prior system, but early in system life JRPGs like Arcana, Beyond the Beyond, and Lagoon didn't exactly tear up the charts. PS2 launched with several, but those were Summoner, Evergrace, Eternal Ring, and Orphen: Scion of Sorcery. The best I can say for any of those is that Summoner was where I first saw a take on the classic D&D sketch by the Dead Alewives.

I'd have been happy with even a rebranded Xenoblade Chronicles or Last Story.

In fact...I'd have been thrilled.

My Impressions:

I deliberately avoided trying the system out until I had my own in hand, so the first thing I wanted to see was how the controller felt. Pretty light, but not feather-light as some reviewers made it seem. I'm glad they kept the battery small, for now, a larger capacity one might make the controller too hefty. My big complaint though, is the grips on the back. They are really quite small and don't give you a natural place to rest your pinky and ring fingers. I lover controllers like the Gamecube's that let you completely wrap your hands around the grips. Wii U's could have been more generous and I wonder if they could not have made the areas under the face controls thinner.

The box was very heavy, which makes me think the system is a lot more powerful than some people realize.

I'm at 25GB left over after the system update, some game updates, and the space reserved for the file system. You only see game/app software data under data management.

Ended up buying this Toshiba 1TB Canvio® Desk Desktop External Hard Drive, only paid 69 bucks for it and it is confirmed to work with the Wii U since my other External HDD didn't for some odd reason....

No time to read the whole thread but are there RROD Like issue or just software related stuff ?

There aren't any big hardware problems from what I've read, but many people are reporting that the OS is very slow (and it is) and there are errors with Miiverse every now and then. So basically software stuff.

One thing I'm worried about for the long term is that the disk drive keeps spinning when a disk is inserted even when you're not playing it.

Interesting I would have any USB drive would work.

Although, I remember reading that external drives need to have their own power supply to work with the Wii U. Can any confirm if this is correct?

Hmm. Hooked up the Wii U to my sister's place yesterday, which is the apartment below mine, and everything worked great. Like for instance when you play NSMBU and collect three stars on the level or beat a boss, the game asks: "Do you want to post so and so stuff on Miiverse?", and if you say yes, the game takes you to Miiverse and to the NSMBU community where you can post stuff.

Its basically twitter. Which I'm happy with since I like twitter. The posts from other people were pretty cute too, and some people there genuinely seemed amped up about playing NSMBU so that put a smile on my face. And apparently there are some people who are born artists and drew some really nice Yoshi's. Holy crap.

The eshop needs some work like the 3DS does. For instance, there'a a sub header that says "indie" games. From my memory I think there was Chasing Aurora, Trine 2, Mighty Switch Force and Nano Assault. Thing is, its not readily obvious if there was a section you can click to see the rest of the indie games. So you scroll all the way down to find a button that says "all" for upcoming games and you see what the eshop has so far. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it could be more tightly organized.

Also when you can click on the news button on eshop nothing loads. Even though there's a star on it.

So then I took my Wii U from my sister's place to my place and noticed right away that my TV doesn't display it. My TV has been giving me problems for quite some time, and intended on getting a new TV anyway, but the Wii U can't be seen through HDMI on the television. So hopefully after fiddling with it when I get home today I can fix that.

And hopefully it was just an anomaly but the Wii U couldn't find my sister's router even though everything else in my room (3DS and my Mac Mini) could. Doesn't Wii U have up to wireless N?

Soo hopefully I get working through the kinks today. Thankfully for the game pad I just played NSMBU while in my bed. I kinda like that. <3

Played Nintendoland at my cousin's last night, all the VS modes are brilliant. My aunt who never plays games was getting really competitive.

Oh, it actually does that? If that could lead to problems, maybe it would be a good idea to remove the game while not playing it.

The ability to play games on the gamepad screen is an awesome feature. I have been playing Mario while my wife watches tv. I really wish all the games would use this feature.

Anyone have a list of the ones that do?

I know Mario, Black Ops, and Mass Effect do.
