Just got my wii-u about 30 minutes ago and it's updating! Hype mode engaged! I only picked up Mario for now in case by some chance some BF deals pop up on amazon or something.

Anything i should know about while updating?

Charge the Game Pad while it's updating.

Turn off the Auto-Shutdown on Idle (after an hour) if you think it'll matter for you.

Prepare for a few more minutes of updating when you start Mario for the first time.

Everything is running pretty smooth today in regards to MiiVerse, whereas yesterday it was up down laggy and crashing for people. You should be good to go.

I had a Basic that I picked up from Best Buy for under $200 with Reward Zone certificates and a Deluxe that I got from GameStop. I wasn't sure which I wanted to keep, but I decided on the Basic due to the $150 difference in cost to me. Ultimately the digital promotion didn't mean much for me because I plan on going retail for anything I can, and I have a hard drive that I can use for extra storage.

I'm giving each game about an hour and taking a break between them... never played so many games in one day since I had my 70 game NES collection as a kid

LOVE THIS THING!

Had 3 hardlocks today in Nintendoland while playing with a friend, but damn, Nintendoland and ZombiU multiplayer are fantastic. My friend left saying he's gotta get a WiiU for his family. We played most every Nintendoland game, and they all have a surprising amount of depth. ZombiU is ridiculously fun either as a Survivor or Zombie King, sending wave after wave of zombies (especially the explosive ones) after a Survivor trying to capture a flag is frantic and hilarious.

Awesome to hear. :D

Believe me, you guys have no idea how much your posts are helping me with my withdrawal until I finally get the deluxe set myself. <3

Yay Warawara Plaza actually has Miiverse stuff now and Miiverse loads really quickly compared to yesterday. Nice to see Nintendo ironing things out.

Yep, glad to see it. I'm really enjoying my time with Miiverse. I've been frequently posting in the ZombiU boards during my play session.

The first time I ever used a Wii back in 2006, I was smitten with Miis and motion controls, and I told everyone that would listen that these were a "big thing" that Microsoft and Sony would also adopt (said the same things about Achievements in 2005).

Using Miiverse the last two days, this is a "big thing" that will be in every console going forward. Miiverse, more than any other aspect of the console including the Gamepad, makes the Wii U feel "next" gen to me.

I like Miiverse lol.
Yes. While Nintendo is late to the party on most aspects of online, they are first to the party in terms of turning the console into a social network.

I see no reason why Sony and Microsoft shouldn't do something similar. It really gives a core to the community aspect that I always felt was missing from my very "anonymous feeling" PSN and XBL friends lists.

If you recall, there was a bit of an uproar when folks discovered that the bundled Nintendoland didn't come with a Club Nintendo code and that the Deluxe and Basic were worth the same number of coins...

It turns out this isn't the case, exactly. If you complete your Wii U Deluxe survey on the Club Nintendo site, it says that a special 50 coin Post Play will be offered within a week for thoughts on Nintendoland.

I thought the shadows/lighting thing was only when playing BLOPS split screen.

2 missions in and i'm not really seeing anything that stands out, including shadows. But i'm not actively looking either.

Performance is fine. It might not be locked 60fps but it rarely dips noticeably. Online is silky smooth locked framerate though.

Be honest guys, how many doodles have you seen?

-Throws you an avalanche of Monopoly $1 bills- :p

I was literally giggling with maniacal laughter as I sent zombies after him, it was great!

xD Sweet...

Every once in a while I see something posted on Miiverse and think, "There's no way an actual fan posted that. Nintendo's got people working the message boards to make it look busier." I can't think of an actual example right now, though.

I've got the Mii lobby thing on my TV right now, and I'm seeing a bunch. Some really good ones, too.

EDIT: If you mean drawing that people have done. If you mean penises, surprisingly few.

Is this a euphemism? I feel like it's a euphemism.

If it is, then surprisingly none. I did see a drawing of a stick figure kicking another one in the groin, with the caption "NUTS"

Wara Wara is so much more interesting now with every load a different games come in and a hundred or so little suckers run in lol

I cried a little tear when Scribblenauts only had two Miis standing under it :'(

Probable dumb questions but I'm a bit out of the loop:

I'm getting the basic bundle. Does the Wii sensor bar plug into the Wii U? Also, how do you charge the UPad without a cradle?

I took time to create two drawings it is fun and unlike swapnote you don't run out of ink so you can keep on adding detail good stuff. I'll use Miiverse more once I finish my launch day backlog in the months to come.

Cannot wait to see how Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest X get the miiverse crazies going next year

I agree - I've seen some pretty "promo-ish" posts.

Not that it's a bad thing - they are just trying to demo how they envision it being used.

Also managed to see a "You sux <flaccid cock drawing>"... so theres that.

I have a Deluxe but never removed my Wii sensor bar from my TV I just plugged it into my Wii U

I am not even using the charging stand since I play the gamepad most of the day wired up

the funniest thing I've seen so far was on the Black Ops II community in Miiverse, I'm scrolling down reading "omg u guyz call of duty" pretty much over and over, and then out of nowhere, and this was the entirety of the post, "ellen degeneres"

Pad plugs directly into an adapter.

And yes on the sensor bar. I didn't ever bother unwrapping the one it came with.

It's only adorable until you find out that you won't be able to launch any VC/WW games from the SD card anymore after you transfer them (no, not even after redownloading) and are stuck with the OG Wii's crappy original allocation of system memory. I'm going to call Nintendo customer service to make sure I'm not missing something but as it stands now, it would be appear those cute Pikmin are actually stuffing your games back into a brand new fridge instead of a rocket.

Edit: My post from the data transfer thread for reference:

After the transfer- I deleted a Mario bros off the SD card. Re downloaded Mario bros from the Wii U shop back to the SD card. It plays just fine off the SD card.

Yes, the Wii U has an orange sensor bar port in the back. As for the Gamepad, the system comes with a little power brick just for charging it - there's a little charging port on the controller for it to plug into. The cradle has the same port (the cradle requires that power brick).

I bought the Basic system *and* the cradle - the cradle and stand cost $20 (I didn't want Nintendo Land).

Are stores selling gamepad charge cables? I have a deluxe preordered so will have a charge dock which will be installed neatly in my av units, so it'll be difficult to play if my battery suddenly goes - it'd be handy to have a spare charger tucked away that I can grab if needed.

My Wii U just hardlocked. Is there a way to forcibly power the system down without actually unplugging it? I held the power button for several seconds, but nothing.

$19.00 on the Nintendo store.

lol, I LITERALLY JUST signed up to Ninty Club, and tried to redeem my Ninty Land code and then googled why the Deluxe Ver. has none...

Thanks for the heads up!

I haven't seen any stores selling it.

But Nintendo is.

Mine just hard locked. I had to unplug the system. Btw, the hard lock was when I tried to play zombiu. The disc had smudges. I gently cleaned it and re-inserted and it started right up.

Maybe I misunderstood all the talk about half of the system's 2GBs of RAM being dedicated to the OS, but I thought it was to make things run lightning fast. So why is there such a long load time between apps? It may be comparable to other consoles, but I had really come to expect a quick n responsive system as Wii U's most noticeably 'next-gen' feature.

Mine locked up when I tried to access the eshop. I was in and out of apps quite a bit, though. Hope they iron out these kinks asap.
