You have got to be kidding, Nintendo Land just hard froze the Wii U AGAIN. That's two times in less than 5 minutes, I'm done with this game for now.

Better account system for starters?
But Miiverse is too awesome, I hope ms and Sony come up with something similar or else it'd be boring.

The closest thing I can think of is how the Vita uses hub areas for the games where you can get extra information about them. Never seen it myself but I remember it being described on the 8-4 podcast.

Of course it doesn't have any social/community features. I almost expect that if Sony/Microsoft do go that way they'd try and tie it into existing social networking infrastructure. Especially Microsoft.

People predicted it would fall apart immediately because "lol internetz" but it works because Nntendo's customer base isn't a bunch of jerks.

What a silly claim. Last night was nothing but penises and obscenities in Nintendoland Plaza, which then led to a bunch of people complaining here that Nintendo was doing a poor job moderating their own service. The notion that kids on Nintendo consoles are somehow better or more refined than kids on other networks is laughable. Tonight has been better for me, but I still saw one incredibly anti-semitic thought-bubble in Nintendoland. If that's not the work of a "jerk", I don't know what is.

Meh, the Vita thing isn't anywhere near as good as Miiverse.

did this to me earlier today. is this common?

Played 2 hours last night and 2 more tonight. No freezes in Nintendoland. And that's even with me pushing the system by going to Miiverse and using the browser while in-game.

Ok actually, that setting didn't do much. No matter what brightness level, or whether the power saver mode is on, the screen always gets darker when I unplug it. Does this happen for everyone else? Also, this thing has rumble? Don't think I've encountered it yet in any game...

I had the same question about this last night like you and it was determined that when plugged in, it is like a setting brighter. The menu gives you 5 levels of brightness, but even having it at 5 it is still not as bright (close) as when it is plugged in. It is like a 6th setting. Others have stated that hte 3ds did the same thing, they have it set to max brightness, but whne plugged in it is a little brighter.

Bottom-line is that 5 is the highest you can set it and it will be a little brighter when plugged in only.

Funny that the Hori screen protector for the gamepad on Amazon said it wasn't going to be available until November 19th. Then it became the 19th and it said "temporarily out of stock" and said it'd ship when there is stock. Umm what? So either they were pre-ordered or they were like "oops didn't actually receive them to sell beforehand." =/

Can anyone post impressions and brand of HDD that you are using with your Wii U. I am thinking of getting a HDD, but just want to read some impressions of how it works with the Wii U.

Mine showed up in the mail today, I'd actually checked out a bunch of crap for it yesterday at a buddies house who got his first thing in the morning.

The system itself is a slick little black brick , I ended up using the side stands because my current set up simply doesn't leave much room for anything else. Since my home theatre area is 90% for gaming I have a couple power bars and setting up the wii pad charging dock was rather effortless for me, kept the standard tray in the wii U's box though since I'll just end up charging the controller any time I'm not playing.

I'm already completely in love withe miiverse setup- trading notes online with everyone else and leaving stick it notes in games and such , it's all great. I imagine it's entirely due to the new toy euphoria but I just really like the way this system is set up, you can participate in the community easily and quickly , see others thoughts on games and just generally have a fun time putzing around the menu. Kind of reminds me of twitter in a way.

The games - well obviously with the 32 gb model you get a copy of nintendo land which is chock full of some entertaining mini games both single player and multiplayer. Each of these games makes some interesting uses of the technology and I imagine in a party setting would be quite a bit of fun. As a single player experience it's a bit of a time killer with some clever hooks (constantly getting small rewards for earning coins in games). It completely works as the whole theme park thing.

Mario U - it's new super mario on the wii U, tight level design and crisp HD visuals as well as some entertaining new(to nsmb at least) ideas like yoshi's. Can't really say much else honestly it's just a fun entry in the mario series, much better then the 3DS outing.

Ninja Gaiden 3 Razors edge- It's SO much better then playing the 360/ps3 version it's not even funny. There are some performance issues that I'd be happier to see die but I'm not sure how easy that is to fix , this is just one game of many that demonstrates you clearly can't just port ps3/360 games over to the wii U and expect things to work the same . Smaller number of processing threads? Lower clocked CPU or is the the slower ram ? I have no idea the cause but it's still a minor setback. NG3 didn't have the best performance to begin with and I'd say this version is only slightly worse- possibly because of the added hit adding the limb loss back into the game created ? At the end of the day the first stage in this version on normal mode saw me fighting for my life in just about every encounter , especially the first boss fight. Died on him so many times the game asked if I wanted to lower the difficulty. I declined of course although thinking about it now I'm wondering if some of my "sucking lots" issues in this game are due to the gamepads size ? It is just a touch unwieldy for a game like this but I never picked up a pro controller so I've little to compare it with. Either way- if you were on the fence about this game I can say it's better then then the standard version.

I'm not sure if the fever madness will lead me to pick up any more games , I'm tempted to grab tekken but nothing else is really screaming buy me until pikmin and wonderful 101 make it out.

I'm wondering if the Miis that populate your Wara Wara are based on shared contacts from your Friends list? Which would make sense.

Painting pictures in Miiverse and then erasing them is a good way of removing the grittiness off the screen that Nintendo touchscreens all seem to ship with(feels like tiny bumps all over the screen). Now my screen is smooth.

I love my Wii U as much as the next guy, but to say that NG Razors is better on Wii U is pretty fanboyish to say the least. Slowdown in places where it does not exist on the 360, muddier textures that don't exist on the 360 etc. This is a case of a bad port for sure, but claiming it is WAY BETTER sounds like someone is still wearing new console glasses where everything seems better than anything before it.

I'm wondering the same thing. Doesn't seem like many people are using an HDD. I wonder if someone has an HDD could they install games?

The demographics and culture for Nintendo and MS systems are quite different.

This is the general consensus because the original game had a ton of design issues that this one fixes.

It's different from game to game. In the Sonic Racing game you do it by swiping down during a race.

Thanks for the reply!! Had a feeling how Off TV Play is activated varies from game to game. Guess I'll just need to play around and figure it out for each game I want to use the feature with. But, thanks for taking the time to reply!

Also, I just activated my Friends List finally, didn't realize I needed to do that in order to get and accept Friend requests haha! But it's done now, so I should be able to easily accept add requests now.

Posted my NN ID in the ID thread but will post it here too due to the higher volume of traffic in this thread :)

I'm entirely too amused by the TV remote function. Mario looks really great on the gamepad and after an hour or two have to say its a lot more comfortable than I was expecting.

:( lame. pre-ordered sept. 15 at TRU.com, still says "Item located in stock" no information on them shipping it.

ughhhh
Same here, ordered on the 15th as well. Up until an hour ago the order details page said item will arrive on or before 11/20/12 along with item in stock. Now it just says that it's in stock without a arrival date.

Edit: Just got a shipment notification. Hope you get yours too.

You can also use the remote in the Nintendo Tvii when it comes out!

Truly enjoying this thing! Miiverse is absolutley remarkable. Nintendo really nailed the online portion. Definitely need a chill lounge in the community section. Can't wait to see the games come out on this thing. Gonna be beyond belief! Go Nintendo!

cross game voice chat, achievements/trophies, your network id being able to be used on multiple systems, custom soundtracks, stuff like that.

Oh. I never use any of those functions on my 360. Don't care about achievements. However, I can see how people who are used to those functions might be upset that they're missing. Though, I have a feeling cross game chat will make it in at some point.

Jesus TRU is such a piece of shit company. So glad I lucked out.

Does anyone else's Wii U not exactly fit the TV?
This is the 2nd TV I've had it on and it doesnt really fit, it kind of spills over the edge. What gives?

So what is everyone's favorite Nintendoland singleplayer mini-game? I like Donkey Kong but it frustrates me. Tried Pikmin tonight and it gives me great hope for what the actual game will look like. I'm actually posting this from the browser with the game running in the background. Cool shit, but I wish this bloody thing would capitalize words on its own.

Donkey Kong for me. After you get the rhythm down, it's a very fun game. I just wonder, are there friends leaderboards for any of these attractions?

I can't use my Gamepad in bed. Feels bad man. Stupid concrete wall in between my room and the living room. =*(

I can't play in my bathroom! All that hype for nothing :(

This always seems to be the problem with amazon getting Hori supply. It happened at the 3DS launch I remember, several accesories were out of stock for weeks. Hori's main website is selling them but $5 shipping. I'm pondering on ordering from there.

Anyways, Nintendo land is great fun. I remember being so disappointed at e3, and was lamenting getting it for the deluxe, but I did a complete 360, this game is legit.

Sonic All stars racing is also solid fun, my first off screen game! Though the quality of the game coming through, you can really see those artifacts. Is this the case with a lot of games?

Off to play ZombiU!

Based on my interpretation of what others have said, the Wii U doesn't account for TV's overscanning, so you have to make sure your TVs are in normal/native/etc. mode and not stuff like Cinematic, etc (I hope you know what I mean). I don't really understand this stuff though, so hopefully someone else will respond.

Mine doesn't fit either, for what it's worth. I got til Christmas to figure out how to fix it, I guess.

They never cancelled on me but they also shipped mine tonight. Why the anger? Already buy one?

The frustration of having them send you an email saying it was processing and then 8 hours later saying your order is cancelled, and then 24 hours later sending an email that your system has shipped. I have a basic set arriving tomorrow and checked stores last night for the deluxe and came up with nothing. It really would have made me mad had I picked up a deluxe last night somewhere else and then magically my order now shipped from TRU. More than likely I will give the basic to my parents, keep the deluxe for myself and be done with it, but not happy with the treatment from TRU.

There should be an option in your TV settings to adjust overscan.

Panasonic calls it "HD size", other manufacturers call it different names.

I am happy to report no problems on my first day as wii u owner. No freezes and the loading seemed to speed up as the day went on. I am actually loving every attraction in Nintendo Land. I can see it getting very competitive once people start posting screen shots to mii verse. I would have killed to have this functionality for RE speed runs.

Sonic doesn't look that good on the pad, Nintendo land and Mario look better. I'd pay for a re designed controller with a better screen.

Just want to say that I picked up a Wii U. This is the first launch console that I've bought in a long time, and let me say it's amazing.

Nintendo nailed the "3D" effect using the controller to look around the world in Nintendo Land. I feel downright giddy about the Wii U. I haven't felt this way since the N64. This is going to be so fun.

Oh. One thing. I know this is 1.0, but the Wii U takes forever to do anything. the menus are sooooooo slow. And the update...lol. That was incredibly painful.

Also, I love that you can buy full retail games from the eShop! Forgot to pick up Mario, and instead snagged the full retail copy online.
