Funny that the Hori screen protector for the gamepad on Amazon said it wasn't going to be available until November 19th. Then it became the 19th and it said "temporarily out of stock" and said it'd ship when there is stock. Umm what? So either they were pre-ordered or they were like "oops didn't actually receive them to sell beforehand." =/

Ya, I'm kinda annoyed about this. I've been avoiding using anything that might use the stylus until I get a screen protector. I ordered it with overnight shipping to make sure it would get here before Thanksgiving and now I have no idea what I should do. I hear the PDP is crap but I sure do wanna play some stuff during Thanksgiving with family. Gamestop says it's in stock tomorrow but online only. Maybe Amazon will get their stock tomorrow?

Sonic doesn't look that good on the pad, Nintendo land and Mario look better. I'd pay for a re designed controller with a better screen.

Wii U HD coming soon.

my wii-u just froze and made a loud beeping sound through the speakers.... I had to unplug it for it to turn off... this happen to anyone else?

This always seems to be the problem with amazon getting Hori supply. It happened at the 3DS launch I remember, several accesories were out of stock for weeks. Hori's main website is selling them but $5 shipping. I'm pondering on ordering from there.

Anyways, Nintendo land is great fun. I remember being so disappointed at e3, and was lamenting getting it for the deluxe, but I did a complete 360, this game is legit.

Off to play ZombiU!

Yeah. It sucks they don't sell them in stores. I heard the PDP one sucks so I won't even try that. Not sure what the word is on the official one, but I didn't see it at best buy when I picked up my Wii U. I would rather get the Hori screen from Amazon because I'm prime and shipping would be free and 2 days. But I really am wondering how good Nintendo's is. I have an official Sony screen on my Vita and it works great. And it came with two in case I screwed up.

And I second Nintendoland. My friends and I had a blast. We played some of the single player games but we spent hours on the three chase games. Those are unbelievably fun to play and show you why the gamepad screen is necessary to bring you a gameplay experience you can't get on anything else. It's awesome.

Also played a little bit of ZombiU. All I can say is eff Gamespot and their 4.5. lol

Yeah. I'm gonna see if they update it tomorrow or something. It just sucks they don't sell them in any stores.

Twice in Nintendoland.

Actually, there seems to be a lot of people in the Nintendoland Miiverse community talking about lock-ups. I've also had a couple of hard locks in the OS.

There should be an option in your TV settings to adjust overscan.

Panasonic calls it "HD size", other manufacturers call it different names.

aw crap, I lost the TV remote for my Samsung. Can't seem to do it with this stupid universal remote, aughhhhg

edit:
even fiddling around with the TV buttons, can't seem to find an oversacan option :(

I found an option in the Wii Settings Menu that shows the screen and it lets you adjust the screen. For the life of me, I cannot remember where I found the damn thing, but it had 4 blue arrows in each corner and it lets you adjust it so that it fits on the screen. My defaulted perfectly. Let me try to find where this menu/screen was within the settings and will post it, but there is something wihting the console that allows a screen adjust.

That's what the Wii does when it crashes as well.

I got a fair number of crashes in the early days of the Wii. Not sure if it was because of a ventilation issue or firmware or what, haven't gotten one in years since then.

Doing programming for the Wii I would hear that noise like 5 times a day. Good times!

That's only for the Miiverse (it's in the Miiverse user settings), it doesn't affect the whole system.

On my Samsung it's under "Picture Options" - > "Display" - > "Just Scan" in the menu IIRC.

"Just scan" means take input signal as-is.

That's not a hardware issue, it's a softare issue, returning your Wii U and getting another wouldn't help.

Hmm, my Samsung only has:

Menue > Picture > Size (16:9), Digital NR (On), DNIe (Off), Film Mode (Off).

There's also a Mode under there, but it's just for setting Contrast/Brightness/Sharp, etc.

This is really aggrivating (thanks for the help guys)

if it were just a software issue there would be allot more people complaining about it I think.... I just dont want to be stuck with a system that may have something wrong with it.

You can't change the Size (16:9) setting to "Just Scan"? Or "Screen Fit" I think it is called on my Samsung.

Based on my interpretation of what others have said, the Wii U doesn't account for TV's overscanning, so you have to make sure your TVs are in normal/native/etc. mode and not stuff like Cinematic, etc (I hope you know what I mean). I don't really understand this stuff though, so hopefully someone else will respond.

Mine doesn't fit either, for what it's worth. I got til Christmas to figure out how to fix it, I guess.

Option in Miiverse that lets you adjust screen size. Idk if it'll fix this but noticed the option there tonight.

Decided to play my first game on my new system tonight. Nintendo land. Took about 10 min for the update (I sure hope they figure out a way to make this faster, I also have a killer internet connection). So the update rolls, game loads (forever), finally start the the game and I get a hard lock. Had to unplug the power source to the unit as hitting the power button did nothing.

I know others reported hardlocks as well and the disc is prestine, took it from the case to the console no smugges, no fingerprints no nothing.

Pretty shitty that when it locks up that pressing the power button does not do anything. Seems kind of silly to have to remove the power cord. Oh well. Let's see what happens when I boot up again.

I know there was some setting to adjust overscan on the Wii U itself. I remember changing it somewhere in the menu. Completely forgot where I found it though.

Got my Wii U today and had a chance to play around with it a bit. I'm a little disappointed in the video compression on the pad at times (maybe it's partially a dpi issue—I'm not savvy enough to know) and some of the updating/loading was really slow. But other than that… Miiverse is pretty charming. New Super Mario Bros. U also looks really gorgeous, though it's also the first title I'm playing in HD so maybe I'm not the best judge. The game itself is still pretty easy—I only cleared the first world—and the Miiverse integration feels rather predictable already but I'll see how things progress. Overall I'm liking the system a lot and hopefully some good games beyond The Wonderful 101 come out for this thing next year.

I'm pretty sure I found something like this in the Miiverse settings of all places.

Okay, it's what I'm thinking of then. You can adjust some stuff on the pad to make the blue corner markers line up with your TV screen. I don't know if it'll work for everyone but I was able to get my TV displaying properly without too much of a hassle.

It should be under size then. It might be size on mine too, I could be remembering wrong. It's in the same place as 16:9 etc.

Yeah I just checked, it's "Size". Mine has 16:9, Zoom 1, Zoom 2, 4:3 and Just Scan.

As far as crashes goes, if you get a crash where everything freezes and you get a long continuous beep it's most likely software doing a bad pointer read/write.

Everything was fine on my Wii U until it crashed 3 times in the span of 5 minutes. I tried loading up Zelda's attraction in Nintendo Land in single player (using the Wii remote and the Game Pad screen turned off) each time and it would just crash as soon as it started, leaving this super loud hissing noise being output to the speakers. I turned on the Game Pad screen and everything worked fine (and once in the game I turned off the Game Pad screen and no freezes happened). That's really weird. Nintendo needs a patch to fix all these crashing issues, seriously.

Noob question but how do you take screenshots on games?

And hoe do you just play on the controller?

Go into Miiverse, go to the community for the game, make a new post, on the right should be a button for attaching a screenshot of either the TV or the GamePad.

Off-TV play is on a per-game basis.

I had the system hard lock when starting up Wii mode once. I left it for a long time to see if it would work it out, but I ended up having to unplug it. That has been the only issue so far.

This can't be the first time people are dealing with overscan, right? That's right up there with trying to figure out how to setup a wifi password on your router...

Got my first lock up today. No problems yesterday with Mario, Trine, Nano Assault, or Mighty Switch Force. Tried NintendoLand today, got a hard lock in the first minute of gameplay. Unplugged, restarted, promptly removed NintendoLand, and had no problems the rest of the night with Scribblenauts or ZombiU.

never happened on any console that I own...
I did figure out how to fix it though :) ...had to turn on full pixel on in my tvs settings.

Go back to your other consoles and flick between the full pixel and what you had i on before there will be a difference welcome to the world of pixel for pixel hd.

This is the only console where I've ever had this problem. And the fact that they give you an option to set the screen size in the settings means they are obviously aware of this issue.
Regardless, I found the setting on my tv and don't have to worry about games cutting off anymore.

Also, my Tekken and Persona 4 shipped! Now i'm just waiting for my screen protector and pro controller.

And early ZombiU impressions: Not very impressed with this title. Killing zombies in this game over and over with a cricket bat (take at least 3 or 4 hits per) is not satisfying at all. And they rarely have loot. And these characters that you use, I can hardly take them seriously since they don't have any personality (besides the main speaker dude) so it's hard to see a reason to keep on playing. I'll probably give it another hour to see if it picks up.

Thats the point of zombiu, if you arnt enjoying it now you wont. Its suppose to give you a feeling your fucked and any one zombie can fuck you up.

Playing Mario now and having messed around with the system all day i am starting to think this is one if the most fun systems I have ever owned. I am digging the wii u controller. It's usually bedside so the charger Is making the screen always super vibrant and bright.
Miiverse is great fun. I love drawing in my free time so I plan on doing some cool pics.

Tomorrow I check out nintendoland.

Having a lot of trouble getting surround going. I have a Sony HT-DDW995 that supports HDMI audio. The Wii U is sending audio over HDMI, but it won't go into surround. When I select "Surround" in the Wii U system settings, it plays two of the chimes and the rest cut out.

I'm not sure what to do, I've tried everything it seems. If I set the Wii U to "surround" and play ZombiU, it just leaves out the channels instead of sending them to speakers. I'm really confused because my 360 & PS3 do surround just fine via HDMI.

Anyone experienced enough to help?

Haha yeah. It's the portable Creed game the Vita title should have been. I wish my room was closer to the living room. I'd ditch the 3DS for this.

I have a vita but mostly play it in the house. I bought need for speed on vita and PS3. WiiU might just make that unnecessary for my particular situation, so that makes me a bit more likely to buy multiplayer on wiiU

I love this console so far. Using the gamepad feels fresh and the ui is pretty nice. The game pad is just great and problem free for me so far. The browser is as fast or faster than my iPad . The Netflix app is the best one I've used and I cant wait for Nintendo TVii. Miverse is pretty cool so I hope Nintendo continues to build on it. The loading times is the only issue I had so far, but I remember the Wii having the same problem when it launched. I hope they iron things out pretty fast because this system is starting out great for me.

Edit:
The TV remote function is great too. Being able to control everything from one device means that I will use the Wii U pretty often. I hope we get apps for this from cable provides like the iPad has so I can set up recordings and watch own demand stuff too. That would be great since my iPad can't turn off all of the boxes or share my video streams to the TV like this can. I guess I can just log into their site to do it from the gamepad.

Posting from my Wii U tablet. Goddamn this thing is slick. Just spent some time on miiverse and the various communities. Good Shit Nintendo. very impressed so far!!

Is your receiver set to auto detect? Does it support DD5.1 over HDMI? Try forcing surround mode on.

Although I don't think the wiiU is supposed to support DD5.1, some game cases include that on the back. Also, some might be using prologicII which would come down just as a stereo signal that your receiver would need to decode.

Audio seems a bit confused at the moment, will need some time to work out what is doing what
