Wii U Release Day Thread

At least they're interested? It's not great product awareness, but if people want the gamepad, doesn't matter a whole lot if it's a Wii accessory or a new console since the gamepad is always bundled with the Wii U.

It does matter, I would say a great deal. Someone who thinks it's a Wii accessory is going to have sticker shock. It's not as if the marquis games scream "graphical upgrade"...aside from running in HD, anyway.

A week after launch my Wii U is finally coming in sometime today!

Just to be clear about something, when I get the update notification I can hit cancel and it will download in the background while I play, correct?

When you set up your WiFi, yes.

So, got Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for the Wii U. My only question is, how do I import a custom soundtrack? Putting a card in the sd slot and usb reader is getting me nothing. Is it just not supported in this version? :(

Maturity, bitches.
I'm guessing it's too late to order a game online for launch. Guess I'm going to have to accept the days of sub £29.99 day one games are over.

Have you tried using something other than an SD card? I think I remember hearing that the Wii U only uses the SD slot when it's in Wii mode.

Well the usb sd card reader would technically be seen as a flash drive, so it theory it would have been read as a storage device. When I booted into the menu, it asked me if I wanted to format the device which I said no because that would delete my songs. Sucks because they never mentioned this :(

Just to be clear, Mighty Switch Force HD is the same shit as the 3ds version, right? Not that there's anything wrong with that...

It's more difficult, basically the pure vision of the game before it got edited/altered.

It's about the same thing besides that.

Along with the redone visuals.

Sticker shock isn't exactly a dealbreaker, though. Eventually, people will see the price and make their final decision, regardless of what they initially believed the product to be. The only folks who will be dissuaded from purchasing the Wii U because it's not a lower-priced Wii accessory are those who don't want a new console anyway. If they knew what the Wii U was from the outset, they'd simply avoid it altogether.

Having said that, it's always important to communicate the details of your product effectively to consumers, and Nintendo hasn't done this. But most important is that there won't be any confusion about what the Wii U is once consumers know what they're getting in the box.

thanks...

I just received my Hori screen protector from Amazon today. They got it in stock like a day or two after the 19th where they said it was temporarily out of stock, so I jumped on it. I just applied it today and it was very easy to apply as usual. I like it and it doesn't seem to cheapen the display at all. And it has that "protected feel". Like running the stylus over it and it just feels like it won't be scratched.

Cancelled my preorder. Then they dropped the AU price to $299 for the basic. Finding out about the Mario U Challenge Mode helped, too. Back on board! Gonna have to be strong and only order one game (Mario) and completely finish that before beginning the hoard of more games.

So - no Wii games on Gamepad, right? What about eShop? If i picked up Mighty Switch Force HD for example would it display on the controller?

The bolded is right for now. Supposedly they'll try to add the ability to do that later. But for now no.

The other part I'm not sure of. I haven't bought anything on the eshop.

Is there any noticable image quality difference between VGA and DVI?

My monitor has 19 inches, and a resolution of 1360 x 768.

This cable either won't work at all or only works on HDMI ports that are capable of outputting analogue VGA signals. This won't allow you to use your Wii U with a computer monitor. The size and configuration (line-out) of this product seem highly dubious.

Ok so then Hdmi to DVI Cable it is..

What games have no sound on the Tab?

Wii games will very likely never be supported on GamePad. What Nintendo is working on is getting Virtual Console games on GamePad (by releasing Wii U versions of VC games).

Ah okay. Yeah now that I think about it, it would be kind of hard to play most Wii games on a gamepad since a lot of them rely on motion controls.

Guys: PROBLEM.

I'm finally going on to my new/2nd Wii U's eShop. I got to the point where I link my Club Nintendo account, but WAIT. Error message. It's already linked to a Nintendo Network ID. Well, what do I do? I had to make a new NNID for my new console! How do I deactivate the NNID it was associated with so I can continue using my Club Nintendo account with my Wii U?

I'm a little worried here.

Edit: poop. end of page. Hope somebody sees this.

still early on in AC3 but had a lock up during the game after hours of play unplugging the Wii U means nothing was recorded for the activity log but boot the game and I was back to my last save point that is good

now I really want these hardware locks to end

Might be a stupid question but, does the Wii U come with an HDMI cable? I have none laying around but figured I should nab one before finding the system if it lacks the cable.

Unplugging the Wii U?

So... I finally transferred my Wii stuff to the Wii U.

I have a problem.

All my Virtual Console games are displaying in widescreen stretched mode, due to Wii mode displaying in 1080i (for me) and thus being impossible (on most televisions) to change the format on the tv itself.

While I could -manually- change the display mode every time I want to go into Wii mode, that seems a bit silly.

I don't think there's a way to change things at the moment, but it would be nice if the next system update let you flag a "change to 480p mode" when entering Wii mode.

Also, a small tidbit, but I just noticed that User Settings (on the Mii Account selection screen after startup) lets you set one Mii/Account as the default account, so that the Wii U system will automatically start up and enter that account's home screen, rather than stop and wait for user selection.

I don't recall seeing that option elsewhere.

This might be pure coincidence but I had a lock up as well in AC3. So I rebooted the Wii U and when it came back up I decided to remove Nintendoland from the disk drive (AC3 was a DL game). Since removing the disk from the drive I have had no more lockups with AC3.

Like I said it’s probably more coincidence but I figured I would share it anyway.

Can now preorder Wii U basic for $299 in Australia. Which is the same price as US.
Game are coming down too from a usual $99 to $69. I feel this deserves acknowledgement.

I never thought I'd see the day :')

I'll bump it for you. That said, I'm sure you can call Nintendo and sort it all out. Well, I hope you can.

Anyone regret going the basic bundle?

I'd like to know too. Unless money is no object, and you love black, then I can't see any real reason.

I prefer white, and can't afford deluxe, really, even though at this stage that means foregoing any premium rewards programs (not that I'm going to be downloading piles of digital games for a while).

And whichever you get, 8GB or 32GB, you're more than likely going to add an external HDD anyway.

3 days to go... and I still have not told my antigaming gf about. I just hope Netflix will be available from day one in europe. and bbc player.

Yeah prices are so much cheaper !

Bit of a price war on Kmarts part - $377 for a delux Wii U bundle is Super

And if you buy a wii console - it's almost as chap as buying a wii remote & nunchuck & sensor bar seperate !
