I might be getting a Wii U for Xmas, if not ill be buying one shortly after. Definitely getting the deluxe version, well worth the extra $50. My question is are there any must have things I should get that do not come with the deluxe system? Im sure I need at least one wii remote and nunchuk, not sure about the pro controller? Curious if a screen protector is needed or does the screen hold up fine?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
All u need comes with it. Maybe look into a screen protector if u fear the screen might get scratched up. The pro controller is just if u like playing games with the 360 controller

Eventually look into the extended battery option too

Home Button --> Controller Settings --> Wii U GamePad --> Turn off GamePad screen

There's no way to completely turn off the GamePad though. If you're talking about the Wii U itself automatically turning off after a certain amount of time, you can disable that in the System Settings from the main menu.

Thanks!

I left it on last night like I do with my 360 and when I went back to it I'd lost my progress in Zombi U :(

Loving the game despite some of my gripes with it and the console itself. Awesome art design, atmosphere and challenge.

finally the true hidden gem of Wii U launch!
the miiverse community gave me more hours of entertainment then many other games XD

Guys, will Xenoblade Chronicles look any sharper on the WiiU? I've not played it on Wii and I heard it's good.
Slightly, though that might be just as dependent on the scaler your TV uses. I know it looks sharper on mine, but it's a subtle difference.

What is the purpose of wara wara plaza?
I enjoy miiverse but I don't understand the appeal of the plaza.

Combination of the old Mii Parade (showcasing random Miis) and a built-in, user content-sourced game "advertisement" system. (In the sense that every post is hand-picked by Nintendo, and they obviously wouldn't select negative comments.)

Anyone suffering battery recharge problems

with an extension cable ?

seems to go only 1/2 hours before it needs to be recharged again !

I think Miiverse is a more practical social tool whereas Wara Wara Plaza is a psychological tool to immediately remind gamers that they are part of an online experience and environment, to encourage interaction and promotion.

Having had a Wii U as of Thursday and having played it all weekend long, I just wanted to put it out there that...

...I've had ZERO lock-ups.
Which are probably bound to happen now
...the battery life on the controller hasn't been an issue.
...the OS certainly isn't zippy, but it it's not the OMGWTF fuck slow it's been made out to be on GAF.

This has been more or less my experience too, either some people are unlucky or exaggerating.

Also, just saw that some of the Mii parts have been updated, which is kinda cool.

...NSMBU Challenge Mode is fucking awesome.
...my wife and I played through the Nintendo Land Zelda quest in one sitting. It was super fun.

I'd say that's been my experience so far. Had mine since Euro Pre-launch day

The battery wasn't an issue for me either...until I discovered more games I loved, Miiverse, using the TV remote, and Netflix. Then we had a problem lol

im really considering buying the Japanese version of WiiU since its actually cheaper here in Hong Kong than the US version, but i can't read japanese very well thats the only problem...

I had two operation system level lockups when using my external HD, and after removing that, none. I'm going to try again with an Y cable when I get around to it...

And once my AssCreed 3 started without audio, and after a while just jammed. I'm guessing that was a problem with the game rather than OS or HW.

Has the Wii U made anyone go back and play more Wii games?

I'm killing it with The Last Story now, and I had stopped playing it on the Wii liike 2 months ago, heh

I didn't really own a Wii to long, so I'm gonna go back and play some game when I have the time and money.
Gonna conquer Twilight Princess!

I took a look ay my Wii backlog, and felt bad for buing so many Wii U games, because there were so many games I haven't yet played for more than a couple fo hours. Including Mario Galaxy 2. Hell, I don't think I have ever played my Gamecube versino of Batallion Wars, and I think I got that when Wii was launched...

Is there a list of all the games you can play with just the wii pad, No TV? I'm enjoying just relaxing in bed playing NSMBU without having the TV on.

I'm playing through it right now with my girlfriend, so good. Next in line is Mario Galaxy. (Both I'm playing for the first time)

Omg lightbulb moment, my gamepad range doesn't extend to my bedroom, but all I need to do is plug the Wii U in in my bedroom instead right!? Does the console work without a HDMI cable plugged in?

Yup you're right, all you have to do is move the console so it is in range of wherever you want to be, and power it on. No need for anything else.
