RAGE: The Scorchers DLC arrives next week

Sweeet, gonna pick this up today if it shows up on Steam. I have been looking for a reason to play through it again and this will be it.

Can you just start the new missions though?....I will not reinstall my disc copy if I have to start the game over...or will my saves automatically be in the Steam Cloud even if I uninstalled the game a few months back?...

Oh dang, 2.16 gigs, I'll be here for a while. Must need all that room to add more texture pop in and boring gameplay ;)

I beat RAGE on PS3...
If I rented it again on 360 and bought this DLC could I just jump into it right away or would it force me to play the whole game again first...?

I asked this on the first page... does anyone have any idea or should I ask again once it's actually out?

just bought it, and... Steam isn't downloading anything yet. oddness. it says it will install with the game, and all that. So did a patch add the encrypted DLC to the game then and I just got the unlock key for it? I just reinstalled the game the other day. I'm remotely connected from work, so I can't launch the game to verify if the DLC shows up when I load.

Presumably I'm all set though. Really looking forwards to a new small slice of Rage. the gameplay was so good.

Im curious about this too. I'm pretty sure the quest takes place in or around the Hagar settlement which could mean that Dan gives it to you right from the start since that's where you begin. Who knows though..

edit: Actually, there is a troph/cheevo for "beating the Scorcher DLC on Ultra Nightmare", so perhaps it's an extra you select from the main menu and just dive right into it.

it does say it's added a new option to keep playing after you finish the game too, so I'm presuming wherever you are you'll be able to enjoy this content, but who knows. I have a save right near the end I can use if I want to refinish it, and one shortly before the 'point of no return' if I don't.

Just booted it up, it just tells you when you've loaded that some strange happenings have been going on at hagar caves, and you should head to the marker if you wanna check it out. So I guess it's jsut, as long as you've got far enough that you can get to that part of the map, you're good to go. Only checked quickly though, so not exactly sure where the cave is.

Blah, my new save is only like 2 hours in though :( can't bring myself to play the dlc before I go get all the guns etc. haha

I really like that they did that. I'm pretty sure I completed mostly everything outside of the main quest but it's still nice that it was included.

edit: nice, thanks donie. Are you able to adjust the difficulty to Ultra Nightmare right from the start?

refinish the game it is then. I guess the content is added into every game on PC, so they can do what they did with the sewer missions where they can just put in a pay gate for anyone that doesn't have them, that instantly allows someone access.

Unlikely, as the reports about the patch said only the exe changed.

Welp, I'm a little confused....

Downloaded it, and I see no mention of it being a stand alone game, so I continued it, which means I put in disc 2, problem is I don't remember a thing about where anything is or whats going on in the story. I can't even remember what was left to do and what would be new content. It says there's some rumbling in the Haggar settlement, so thats new? Then again it says I need to go the last mission and defeat them, which I did.

Haven't touched this game since last November.

okay, not stand alone, continued on, I don't know if it's accessible without a completed game, might be since it's connected to the first settlement. Seems to be it's own story, though. Don't get the nailgun right away, but there you do "see" it.

Hmm... doesn't sound good. Thanks.
Can anyone else further clarify this?

See above, my shot is only 2 hours into the game and it's available for me, I don't understand why you think you'd have to have a completed game? (is that even what you're saying lol?)

The dlc just pops up as a marker in the world. Given my save file is so early on right now, its fair to assume you can access it whenever you are in the game. I can't imagine they lock it later, and I've only did the wasted garage.

Okay, yeah, liking this a lot so far, beat the first mission, probably going to be light on single player content, but 5 bucks is 5 bucks.

The mission is connected to the first disc (360), so I have no idea if it'll span to the second. It would make more sense to add existing levels to an already laid out game than have a brand new story line.

"The Scorchers" isn't accessible from the menu, you continue a game and it's the first mission that pops up when you get control of your character. I really don't see why this DLC wouldn't be able to be played without the rest of the game not beaten, although, you'd still have to make your way to the Haggar settlement, I can't remember how long it took to set everything up, and I had a ton of weapons so it made it a lot easier.

Well worth 5 bucks, I forgot how amazing this game looks.

Nvm ha, I came in and wrote this earlier, and what you added sounded like you were saying the opposite, forgive the confusion.

Can't wait to boot this up and play, but for now it waits until I've got the bow at least. Stupid reformat. Literally the only two saves I lost were this - and Skyrim :|

I haven't played Rage yet. What should I do? Play the vanilla game, and then buy the DLC and play it separately? Or buy it now (or in a sale) and play everything together?

Looks like it won't matter too much man, might just add some variety in for you. It's so cheap, I doubt they'll put it on sale in the future, so I guess it depends on whether or not you've got 400 points handy. It gives you a new gun, could be cool to pick up and take through the vanilla game with you.

Not even in the Steam Winter Sale? I'm in no hurry and currently playing The Witcher, so I can wait, plus there's several other games I'll be buying this next 2 weeks.

But I'll probably pick it up before starting the main game, then.

Honestly, this game is cool enough to stand on it's own, without the DLC. I barely remember the levels and now I want to start again and play. The nailgun is cool, but that crossbow is amazing, I've already moved on to that as my go-to weapon. They did such a great job with this game, it's shame this wasn't better marketed. I think people were expect a deeper experience (like with Fallout) but what they got was a great shooter.

Haha, sorry, I'm in xbox live mindset. I'd hold off and see with the sale then, only two days, and if you've got other stuff to play.

Also
take your time with the witcher, savour it ;) so good!

I think this was a big problem with the public's perception. I'm not sure how ID and Bethesda marketed it, but alot of people I know, I heard describing it as Fallout with fantastic graphics in the run up to release. Not sure where they were getting it from, but that couldn't have helped. Such a good game though. Personally, I'd have cut out the overworld given how little there was to do out there, and just strung all the locations to the hubs, but I love it regardless.

weird.

perhaps it just hasn't been released yet, and I just 'pre-ordered' it. I'd gotten the impression from people on here that it was already out, but maybe not yet on PC.

Pretty sure it's not out yet on PC. Everyone on the steam forum is still waiting for it.

Oh, and the DLC does slot into the normal campaign in case anyone wasn't sure yet. According to the Bethesda forum it's available right after the first mission clearing out the 'ghost' base.

Well that, and as soon as most of the players (on here especially) saw that the textures weren't up to snuff, everyone more or less dismissed it as shit. Because you, know, we HAVE to have our post apocalyptic cereal boxes and coffee mugs to look as good as possible or it just completely wrecks the entire immersion factor and gameplay.

yeah, it started downloading not long ago.

Yet, regardless, in motion it's one of the best looking console games ever released to this day and runs 60 fps.

So it's 6 new levels that you go into off the hubs? Like how the story missions worked? Because I loved those levels and if these follow that design then I may have to pick it up right now.

It's been forever since I waited for something on release say on PSN, when does it normally update? I'd hoped it would be morning sometime with the new store but I guess they still update at night :(

Another complete mess on the PC, now can't load the old save games as the game has been updated.

Unless you buy the DLC it seems you have to start a new game :/

I dont think the majority of us have an issue with that considering the entire game is fucking awesome up until the final, what? 20 minutes? This will be my third run through personally and playing on Ultra Nightmare will make it all the the more great.

Yeah, it's basically like adding a new story line to the game. You do missions and they send you to the new places. Also there's new mini games and the "Jackpot" is now a place you can go into.

Pretty obvious this shouldn't cost 5 dollars, but they probably didn't think they had a market left to charge any more. If Rage was a huge success this thing would be 15 dollars, well worth the money at 10, but at 5 bucks, it's like they're giving it away. I bet this was suppose to come out shortly after the release, but since it flopped they held off on it, probably were never going to release it, then just thought "hell with it, what do we have to lose?"

Yeah, it feels like a great deal. It's getting me to reinstall the game and actually finish it this time.

The achievements still haven't shown up yet.

I still wish there were some way to play Rage in a linear level to level fashion. I didn't mind the hub, but it really kills the momentum of the experience on replays.

Isn't that one of the additions?

Extended Play Mode & Combat Scenario Selection

Continue exploring the Wasteland long after the final fight with the ‘Extended Play’ option, and relive your favorite missions any time you want with the all-new ‘Combat Scenario Selection’ menu.

Wait, seriously? My old saves are incompatible with the new version of Rage? I don't currently have the game installed, but if I do reinstall it I have to start from scratch? Or the saves work if I buy the DLC? What? I'm confused.

Are there even cloud saves in Rage? I certainly didn't back anything up before I uninstalled, so it might be a moot point. I'm going to buy the DLC the moment I'm in front of my computer, too.

No save issues on my side, everything is as I left it weeks ago. I reinstalled it yesterday and didn't buy the DLC yet.

Oh shit, they added a mission selector? Awesome.

Could've done without the needlessly ostentatious name, haha.
Yeah, honestly I'm not totally sure that's what it is based on the ridiculous name. On one hand it's probably just a level select, but on the other it seems almost like it throws combat scenarios at you, like puts you in a room with the various tribes and lets you fight it out. Guess we'll find out once we get more impressions!

That may suck, but it seems like a YMMV thing at this point so I'll check it out as soon as I can. Gotta clear off some space on the SSD for this beast!

In most/all of the Rage missions, you went into a map, then later came back and went into it backwards or whatever for a sidequest

Do these maps work the same way? Is it 3 maps repeated twice each, or 6 maps once each, or 6 maps more than once each?

Holy crap, bought DLC, loaded up old save which was right near the end, completed the game, it said congrats yada yada now you can carry on in the wasteland. Went to Coffer to sell some shit ..... available to purchase was the Large Mutant playing card i completely missed and though id never be able to get again. It cost $1000 but i now have the 100% achievement and all cards in 1 playthrough.

Now to actually play the DLC :P

(PC btw, no problems loading up my saves on this. I thought this did do cloud saves too ? It always syncs when i quit the game.)
