Monolithsoft WiiU trailer - X (Takahashi x Tanaka x Sawano, Xenoblade x/multiplayer?)

I have a feeling X is pretty far into development seeing as Takahashi already has chosen a composer. I heard that usually in video games the music side of it all is one of the last things you sort out. Either that, or Takahashi has a really clear vision for this game.

Monolith has been working on that title for quite a while, if they started right after Xenoblade. It could even come this year (in Japan), if the stars allign =)

And given the recent trend of translating and publishing games at a faster pace (Pokémon worldwide release), this could even mean that we don't have to wait that long!

I'm looking forward to E3, there's more stuff coming, I'm sure.

Music can be one of the last things, other times it is done early. It matters the game. Look at Versus XIII, or Nier, and other games.

There was just something vaguely familiar to me about the geometry of the scenery in the X clips and I think that's the part of Xenoblade I'm remembering it from. The stage is set for a sequel esp. with
Fiora and Shulk saying that they'll meet the people of the new world' as they stare out at the downed Bionis
. I think Monolithsoft could easily make it work without being tied too much to the events of Xenoblade. I'm anxious to see what the new game will really be about.

Please spoiler differently, like I did. You are giving things away unspoilered.
Specifically that Fiora is around to talk about anything

Interesting observation. Personally, I also believe in a sequel. At least similar to the connection between Koudelka and Shadow Hearts.

want to ask about the mech taking off gif. a lot of gaffers are drooling at it. is that kind of game play something special? doesn't any other game/jrpg do that?

I can't think of any other JRPG that I've played that's remotely as big as Xenoblade. Taking a look at that gif, it's apparent that that particular area is magnitudes larger than the biggest one in Xenoblade. Now, if you've played it, you know just how big and meticulously crafted that would be. To see X follow in those same footsteps, but amazingly on an even more gargantuan scale... I, personally, can't help but feel awestruck. The Doll flying off is cool and all, but it's the masterful design and ridiculous scale that get me.

It makes me mad that a simple announcement of a Mario or Zelda title trumps this amazing looking game. All I hear is garbage another 3D Mario or Mario kart but they get all pissy when I tell them they have been playing the same game for the past 20 years and are to dumb to notice. This game looks amazing and I got goosebumps just looking at the trailer (very rare). It just a shame Americans are too stubborn to give this game a try.

Nice generalising there, and not insulting at all! Enjoy your stay here.

Oh sorry I can't be super-patient like you!

So sick of Nintendo showing off games that are 'in development.' Don't even bother! If I can't play it within five days, I get mad.

It's just "promises, promises" with Nintendo.

Hope you were not one complaining a week ago about the lack of long term vision for wii U!

edit : Hoooo my god I think I'm tired, I can't spot sarcasm. My bad.

Who would ever get mad at that fact? Dumb people I guess. Sequels are obviously just the same exact game all over again, only dumb people want and play them as they never bring anything new to the table and SMG is basically Mario 64 with more shiny graphics. This thing is Xenoblade with a new coat of paint, who would want that? Dumb people, that's who! It's literally the same thing, you can play it right now if you want, why wait! I hope it fails hard and never makes it to have as many sequels as 3D Mario (fuck, 4.5 in just 16 years), we need new games, not the same game over and over every time there's a slight hit!

Pretty sure he's being sarcastic.

This thread is the biggest of the Direct stuff. The game won't sell as much as Mario but it doesn't have to...

You know, for a long time I was under the impression that an HD JRPG the scale of something like Xenoblade would never happen because the costs associated with such an undertaking would be astronomical. We can't say for certain that X is going end up being as big or larger than Xenoblade as of yet, but supposing that it will, I really have to wonder how much it's costing them.

rly?
hint: it's the right one

I do know he's Vegeta as well as Kou Uraki from Gundam 0083, among many others. I'm not saying that he's a bad voice actor or that he does a bad job (not at all!), but in my opinion he's too high-pitched to play Dunban, a thirty years old war veteran (by Japanese game standards, that's practically ancient; note I myself am 35, though).

But it might perfectly be that the UK voice actor has colored my perception of Dunban as a calm and collected leader figure, and that's why I find Ryo Horikawa so grating as him. I really have to replay it in Japanese to see if they click; it's just that the UK cast is so good...

Iwata has stated that, while big budget is not something Nintendo will do 'just because,' if the project requires it (ie. Zelda) then they wouldn't hesitate to put forth the required resources. I think that X being front and center is the last ND demonstrates that they recognize the game as being an important factor in the longevity of the console and therefore you can guess that the budget for this game is comparable to any of the recent AAA titles. One caveat is that Nintendo management is probably way more streamlined than other developers and so the budget is not 'bloated' by excess or waste.

By analyzing the combat statistics numbers shown in the trailer I was guessing something more around 10.5/11.8...

So Wii U not next-gen confirmed... last I heard the cutoff was locked in at 12

It's pretty cool though to see Nintendo ramp up the hype like this for Monolith Soft. Xenoblade was formally announced like what, six months before it came out?

Things have really changed.

About 13-14.

Only 13-14 graphics and no compelling textures. Worse than the PS1.

Good point, and it's great to see Nintendo hold Monolith in the same esteem as its fans do. This also brings UE4 to mind with how its advertised as being able to keep development costs low or something. I'd venture a guess that the tools Monolith are working with might be affording them the same kind of luxury.

How much this game taking power from Wii U ?

Yes indeed.

Seriously... what are you asking? How much this game is pushing the WiiU in terms of hardware? Or how much wattage it will consume? I guess you are asking the former? In that case, it seems to be the first game that is going to be really pushing the hardware, while being built from the ground up for the system. I expect some graphical polish before release, and it will end up looking very good considering the scale/scope of the game, and the fact that it is still "early" in the lifecycle of WiiU.

When other developers start making games from the ground up for WiiU, but use smaller locations (rooms, corridors, small outside locations etc), you will see graphics much better still. But this game will be one of the first to really test the hardware i suppose.

I posted this earlier in the thread, but didn't receive a response. Could anyone shed some light on it?

Is there a download for this on the eShop? I don't have a Wii U so I don't know. If there is are you able to DL and upload it? I emailed Ninty PR and even they don't have a download version of the video.

My question about pushing gpu & cpu .. sorry for making confusion to you guys.

We won't know till they straight up say specifics. The only thing that can be done is guesswork. Some people claim its something that the PS360 can't do. Others are saying the PS360 is capable. In the end it doesn't married since it is going to be a visually pleasing.

HUD and general interface are quite disappointing... I hope they will improve those for the final release...
It seems like it is all placeholders.

The Kyoto game is Baten Kaitos 3/DS. Duh.
Please.
I'd even take remakes for 3DS. Played the first one ages ago and never picked up Origins. Given the reception of Xenoblade, maybe slapping a big ol' Monolith Soft logo on the boxes would get more people to pick them up leading up the the launch of X
in 2016 :-(
.

OT title: HD Towns Are A Piece of Cake

We haven't even seen any towns yet :P Unless the colonies we've seen are similar to Colony 6/9 where there's a town but a much larger wilderness type area around them. I wouldn't like to build my town around big-ass dinosaurs though.

Get Origins. It's a MUUUUCH better game than the first BK, and I think it's better than Xenoblade. Also I'm sure X will release around Spring to Summer 2014 at the latest.

I played some more tonight and I'm one and a half hours in
at the bit where Shulk has vision while touching Monado
. Loving it so far.

Wicked! It's an amazing game, you're in for a treat. There are so many fantastic scenes in the game too, but I'm not spoiling anything! Enjoy.

Yeah that's true. They're pretty much fucked if those turrets we saw are in fact cranes...

Origins isn't that expensive either... good to know. Just hooked up my GameCube again expecting to replay Fire Emblem before the 3DS game, but that never happened.

I'm setting myself up for disappointment with release dates. Versus has broken me.
