PS4 has 8 GB OF GDDR5 RAM

I don't care about the price, I'm just happy that PS4 won't be the limiting platform memory-wise in the next generation. 8 GBs of GDDR5 are unexpected but damn that's good news and that's one more reason to get PS4 for me.

The fact that despite all of the "insiders" posting over the last few months - we were woefully off-base regarding the PS4 RAM situation - leads me to believe we know far less about Durango than I/we previously assumed.

This, and the fact that Microsoft is unlikely to leave themselves considerably behind the PS4 in terms of multiplatforms... I think we're in for a surprise from Microsoft too.

I believe PS4 is going to be the most powerful platform - but I just don't see much of a power gap existing when Microsoft makes their announcement.

It's official. PS4 is my next console. Goodbye, Microsoft, my first love :(

Yup. Not seeing myself jump in early on, but it certainly will be my primary box next-gen versus 360 this gen.

No way will I settle for slow ram.

And yea I really do not see MS matching this.

Correct. I think MS is looking to surprise.

Not even the best insiders on GAF said 8GB on PS4.

They were right on everything else though to be fair. We all excluded the possibility of 8GB of GDDR5 on heat/motherboard complexity/cost grounds.

Who knows when that decision was taken.

I'll take a $100 bet on MS not announcing 8GB of GDDR5.

I dont think they will either but they certainly could if they felt the need. Just thought you actually knew something that made it impossible for them to put 8 GBs of GDDR in theri next system.

MS must match it otherwise there's going to be a huge gulf in graphics capabilities.

Of course if they match it and then reserve 3GB for the OS they're still going to be struggling to keep up.

Hmmm... That crazy Nowgamer article seems eerily spot on on SOME things. They said Sony matched Durangos 8GB RAM and were even accurate of the February unveil. I wonder if, and I emphasize IF, there might be any truth to the rest of their report? Mainly, that Microsoft responded to Sony's move by doing "other" things?

One thing seems certain, we don't know everything yet.

Holy shit this is amazing, MS are fucked with 8GB ddr3 LOL.

I wonder how much of that 8GB is reserved for OS, probably 1GB I'm betting.

I am in shock, absolutely shocked. We were completely satisfied with 4GB, experts here told us that it is IMPOSSIBRU to have 8GB, IMPOSSIBRU. I thought they may have been going DDR3 like MS but no, it's GDDR5.

What we saw today is pre-alpha stuff for the launch... just imagine what the games will look like in a few years.

Oh and it's obvious now, that the OS may well over be 512MB.

It's a surprising choice. People, including me, doubted it not because it was technically impossible, but because it would be very expensive.

Cool stuff, anyway.

An awesome surprise. I wonder how long it'll take for PCs to get this as well considering the console will be out during the holiday

exciting times

Abso-fuckin'-lutely. Honestly not worried about Durango's RAM situation after this, because they know what they're dealing with now and they can easily compensate, upgrade, or redesign. Mark my words, it will be equivalent.
