I read that Mark and Suzuki are close friends. Is this true?

This is not a Shenmue thread. Originally, at least. The original tweet is an obvious joke. People are now talking about Shenmue, but with the same reasoning we could be talking about any other game that Cerny or Suzuki worked before.
Yes, another common misconception. It did not sell poorly, it simply required everyone who owned the system to buy like 2 copies to justify the costs.. so that was a problem.

Seriously though, on a personal level, nothing else could top a 'system seller' for me than Shenmue III. Money wouldn't even enter the equation; I'm willing to spend whatever it takes to get my hands on Suzuki's third installment in the saga. $599? I'll bend over and take it.

Oh I don't doubt there are thousands like you - my game(s) like that are Vagrant Story and Chrono [Cross]. I'd pay whatever and buy whatever system they're on.
But I also know they're not system sellers, and except for maybe Chrono, would sell like crap, haha.

well.. i hope it comes to life as i want to end the story and i really liked the first 2 shenmue games. i mean... i really loved everything about it. going to the arcades. doing actuall work all day to get money. clues.. stuff.. was a nice game.
and i wonder why SEGA didnt release the third. i mean. it shouldnt be expensive to make. they already have that yakuza engine ready. just adjust it, re-skin the buildings. add mini games and shit with some tweeks and you have shenmue :/

it's basically just cerny talking with yu suzuki about the games he made, some insight into the development stuff and when it gets to the public questions bit (where people write stuff in some paper), lots of people ask him about shenmue 3

While I am a fan of everything they are doing with the console I didn't buy that many games on the PS3. I'm just not a fan of any of Sony's 1st party output. The streaming stuff sounds great but I would mostly want to stream old ps1 and ps2 games so I don't think I'll get much use out of it.
After doing 90% of my gaming on one console last gen[wii] I decided to cut down and focus on one console and one portable going forward. Modern gaming is also going in a direction I don't want a part of so I doubt there is going to be wealth of 3rd party games I'd want on it either. I do hope it does well since it seems like a very gamer/developer focused console but I just don't have the extra cash to burn on a console that most likely won't have a library that appeals to me.

I can only speak for myself, but at the time it was released, it was easily the most interactive game I had ever played. Every drawer in Ryu's bedroom could be opened, you could knock on doors, you could go into an arcade and play actual arcade games. Things that are taken for granted these days, but back in the day it was effing amazing. And the atmosphere was amazing too. I remember experiencing Christmas in that game and it just swept me in. I was transported to that town and that shipyard.
