Unpossible. I refuse to get my hopes up. If Sony were to show Shenmue 3 at E3 for the PS4, I would buy one at like $700.

It's not going to happen though, but I have always kept the hope alive, so I can't say I don't always have a slight expectation it is at every E3/TGS/etc.

Sony has the balls to fund projects like Heavy Rain, though.

If there's one publisher who could fund a project like Shenmue, it'd be Sony.

It's about budget too. If they're going to bring this back and have it cost as much as the others did then it's going to be a money pit just like those were. I'm pretty sure Deus Ex HR didn't cost 50+ million (although it could have, I don't know for sure) so bringing it back and having it sell a modest 2-3 million copies was a pretty solid idea.

Obviously Shenmue cost a whole lot due to a huge amount of development time, and the creation of technology for two generation of platforms.

Shenmue II probably didn't cost half of what 1 did. Pretty sure you could make Shenmue today for a third of the budget, if that. Look at Yakuza, it doesn't cost 50 million (I think).

Yes. This is what I don't understand, everyone saying how Shenmue 3 would cost too much like old ones, there is no fucking reason for that. You could simply use an existing engine and cut costs to a regular game.

I'm sure if they were to do some HD-make of Shenmue 1 and 2 with new voice actors and improved controls, plus the existing fans, Shenmue 3 would easily be profitable from the fanbase size.

Im all for a Shenmue 3... but Sega needs to re-release the first two in remastered form first to generate interest from the new crowd of gamers out there.

After reading the last four pages its pretty clear to me the answer is double standards.

The Playstation apologists seem to be the most vocal and take Sony's PR as gospel.

If people genuinely consider that Sony 'Brought it' then all Microsoft have to do is come out with a load of hyperbole too and little gaming content and that'll seemingly please the easily impressed.

Apart from the new features I thought Sony's conference was very turgid and very light on games I'd bother playing let alone buying a new console for.

But this is an entirely different generation. The odds of you being able to carry over original Xbox save data from Shenmue 2 would be extremely unlikely. Impossible, even.

I entered this thread and stated my opinions because I do not want Sony investing in games such as Shenmue... partly due to my distaste for the games, and because the games were not successful by any means in terms of sales. That money should be spent fostering new IPs from their first and second party studios and or getting more popular 3rd party support.
