Kotaku Rumor: Microsoft 6 months behind in game production for X720 [Pastebin = Ban]

I agree with everything - though I suspect we'll see some fairly surprising exclusives announced, likely as a direct result of Microsoft spending big. Time will tell.

Imagine if they did net COD though? I'm not sure the Internet would cope.
Well, we know of the Respawn thing, there'll be Ryse from Crytek. I don't know if it will be much beyond what we already saw this generation though - publishing deals with independent developers. New IPs. There'll likely be something from Remedy. Perhaps they'll try and strike a deal with Epic again - or Epic will just continue the Gears franchise.

Sony will have their equivalents with studios like Quantic Dream.

Established multiplatform franchises though - I don't really expect much. COD, Battlefield, Madden, FIFA, GTA, etc. Too much potential downside for the publisher.

Mods, if this offends you, please tell me to delete this shit, the bird can't take another ban.

A few months ago, I spoke to someone familiar with the situation over at MS.

I kept pandering him for performance numbers and how well it translates into what we see on screen. I wanted to know if anything had changed from the leaked specs we had in the original PDF floating around.

A week after the PS4 press conference he cracked and admitted that beta kits were running hotter than they wanted. He claimed the teams is experiencing headaches trying to get all the pieces to fit together in a timely fashion. The last thing he told me was, "Performance, at this moment, is the least of our concerns."

I know this sounds like some sort of fanfic, but I am sure someone or the other can back me up on if they have the courage to do so.

Also, temper your expectations for Ryse. The animation system is supposedly janky. It's not a Kinnect title only btw, it has been converted into a full featured AAA game so that is something atleast.

So is this why games will look better at E3 than release?

Regarding Thuways comment of overheating Durango kits..

Wouldnt this mean that PS4kits also are overheating?
If the VGleaks are true, then Durango has an "equal" CPU and a slightly less powerful GPU than PS4...

So, presumably, PS4kits should have a similar problem..or?
Or is the overheating related to ESRAM?

Or frankly, MS upped the specs and are now dealing with this issues?
Performance is no problem, but something has to cool down the 16 core, 3 TFLOP system, right? (*wink wink*) :D

It is a bullshit rumor.

does final fantasy matter at this point ? hasn't one of them been in development for like 9 years now ?

That's like asking if Dragon Quest, Resident Evil, and Metal Gear Solid still matter.

With the current cost of AAA development I'm not sure if signing a system exclusive deal is the best way forward. Perhaps this generation it would have worked, but who knows how well the next generation is going to sell. If I was a publisher/developer, I'd want my game in as many homes as possible.

The logic would work if you assumed the same engineers were working at both companies.

There is no spec upgrade, and we have no idea what it is to do with, the ESRAM is large, I'm not sure how big, but that might be part of it. Either that or its bullshit

eSRAM takes a lot of space and runs hot. The chip is likely bigger than the PS4 chip in the first place because of it.

True, but I somehow I cannot think that MS is oblivious to cooling technologies out there and what is required.. granted, the 360 had issues with this but you have to assume that MS would have learned their lesson.. right? right? Bueller?...

Overheating is a design problem. They simply didn't make the kits cooling themselves enough. Any chip currently on the market can be contained heat wise don't worry. Microsoft is just cuttin corners on the hardware, just like in 360 era.

That's what happens when you close down Fasa and ensemble studios.

Going out of business after turning the Shadowrun IP into an online-only death match FPS is one of the most just things I've ever seen happen in this industry.

On topic I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing. Complacency and hubris are what tend to ruin things for everybody, including the company in question. Realizing you're not where you need to be and pulling double to try to get there is win-win for everybody in the end.

Maybe they designed the case first and then tried to fit the hardware in. That way they have a nice case to show at the reveal, not like Sony. I guess that's one approach, too.

Maybe Sony was just smarter about things & just modified parts that was already know to work & just put them all together on a chip while MS was trying to create something new that haven't had much time to be tested.

So PS4's 1.94TFLOPS SoC could be running cooler than Xbox Next 1.33TFLOPS SoC.

Like Sony did with the PS3 you say?
(no vents, a billion USB ports, 2 ethernet etc etc)

Yeah, I guess that is a way to go..

Pure fantasy.

So the lack of response from MS after the unveiling of PS4 was as we all guessed.

So far it is going to be an easy pick on what next gen console to buy. Adding the problems MS had this gen, I aint putting myself in an RROD situation again unless they truly show something amazing then it might be worth it.

What would this "new" be then?
People here have already said that stuff like display planes are really nothing "new" and according to the leaks and comments from it, suggests that Durango is really "nothing fancy" tech-wise.. besides the ESRAM but not even that is all that..

Well, either heating issues is bogus, or something changed I would guess.
MS did bump up the reveal from 26 of april to 21 may for some reason..

I can't remember them having heat problems. And it was certainly a good move to go with less USB ports and "only" one ethernet port.

Sony did not have heating problems because when they showed the machine, it had no tech on the inside, it was just a shell.

Even J Allard commented on the size and lack of vents and such.. and true, Sony did change /alter the machine a bit when putting the tech inside the shell..

More bad rumours coming out about durango. I've got no idea how true they are but it does feel strange to just have so much negativity towards an unreleased console. Can't wait to see the unveil i feel like MS is either going to bring something amazing or just fall completely on their face. Kinda leaning towards the latter right now.

X360 RROD could be avoided with better engineering or bigger box. Maybe they just calculated box size wrongly and woke up when it was to late to change box size ?

Shit happens. Bridges fall, buildings collapse, x360 RROD. There is always chance that there could be human error somewhere.

Wow. The horrible hyperbole claims from rabid fanboys looking to one up each other are getting boring and old hat now. If you have been around through multiple console launch periods you will know not to believe anything you read on the internet or hear from "sources".

Just like the PS4 suprised us with 8gb Ram, the Xbox console will also suprise us in some ways. Both will launch well and both will have a decent launch lineup of games.

Or am I just an old man now?

The big problem with the X360 is that it's something that'd show up only after it came out. It fails due to the high temperature heating+reheating that makes the board warp and unwarp, making the lead-free solder (which only became legally required soon around the launch period of the new consoles iirc) crack and lose connection. It's inconsistent and takes time.

They should know better now.

your an old man!

stop this nonsens and join us other in the hate train! I kid, I kid.

I'm still finding such claims hard to believe. MS aren't really known for actively engaging in smoke and mirrors like Sony, so this would be a first.

We'll see, the reveal is only 22 days away and E3 not too long after that.

@bolded: what? Kinect reveal, Kinect star wars stage demo, Milo etc would like to have a word with you

so 2 jaguar cores clocked at 1.6 ghz and a gpu clocked 800 mhz being too hot nowdays? this sound literally crazy
these 28-nm chips will have power envelopes of 15W or less
the latest x360s had a XCGPU 45-nm chip where the cpu is clocked a 3.2ghz

maybe he just didnt tell u what they changed or we dont know the true clock of the gpu

dont think that a new jaguar che be hotter than the old xcgpu..sorry...
they must have changed something ;)

Sure sources can be unreliable (old info, misleading language), but throwing them all out would be a bit too heavy handed especially on this forum. For example that 8GB RAM 'surprise' was outed by a source (from VG Leaks I believe) before the announcement, most people didn't listen to it because it seemed untrue. It's true than fanboys come out of the woodworks around this time though.

Or maybe they are going for a very small form factor to appeal to more (non-gaming) customers, which seems to be in line with their "conquer the living-room" strategy.
