Microsoft: Next Xbox will work even when your Internet doesn’t

I love how negative rumours about Microsoft are taken as truth quickly, but any good rumour has a lot of people trying to debunk them uber-fast lol

E3 is going to be a graveyard.

Not only that, the goal posts suddenly shift very quickly.

Once Microsoft finally shows how awesome this console is, the naysayers will fall back on good ol' dependable "paying for multiplayer lol"

The real moistness will come when Sony announces they're charging for online play.

You think this is something? Imagine the reactions at the hint of even better specs or surprising software at the reveal!

"Well I'm disappointed Sony did this - but PS+ is awesome and no adddddds"

-Sony Warrior

Seriously though - this whole thing is getting old. I tend to avoid nearly any thread that mentions Xbox, Live, or Online gaming at this point - because it's filled with 'XBL is rubbish' style posts. I would have thought after this many years, we'd have formed our opinions on it and moved on.

Maybe 'playing a single player game' means: loading up and PLAYING a few video encoder logo screens until you get told that your internet is down and to reset your machine?

Every generation there will always be brave warriors who believe these big console makers aren't solely after your wallets. No... They just want to be your friend.

It's not about going for our wallet. Every company does.

It's about what you get for your money. Free games, first party games, services...

If there are more on Sony side, people go to Sony. If there's more on MS side, they go MS.

I understand you guys are big fans of Xbox but isn't the whole console warrior thing a little silly?

If Sony figured out a way to make more money they will change their plans.

This is the same company that got rid of BC to make profits on the PS3.

I don't think Sony is going to charge for online play. They have Gaikai, PS+, and share features that they can monetize first. I do expect all of those things to be behind a paywall (hopefully tied to my existing PS+ subscription) and probably ads for people that don't have a subscription. Netflix, Youtube, browser, and online play will probably be the only things that remain free.

Did you lick your lips while writing this?

Does debunking rumors of online requirements somehow justify paying a fee for multiplayer, a web browser and apps that are free everywhere else?

Does the thought of Sony charging for multiplayer make you happy?

What the fuck am I reading?

That's what people have been saying since 2006, unfortunately for these people until now I can still play online for free on my PS3, then you can get PS+ for great value.

IF it changes one day, I'll change my plans too. Why should we worry now ?

And they also cut down the price?

Not a good example.

Automatic updates and such behind paywall, that's an annoying one.

I agree. That would make sense.

You don't know if any of that is certain, I would be surprised if Sony charge for multiplayer

Huh?

My whole point was that Gaming Discussion is becoming unbearable with the MS hate. Did you read through the thread? It didn't take long before the 'XBL = rip-off' thing came up again.

At this stage, Sony can do no wrong (hence my joke/quote), and Microsoft can do no right. But sure - it's probably easier to just misread and then pass it off as a case of 'console warrior'.

So many things....so many things I want to type down right now.

For now though, I'll say: well, duh.

I hope next time the video game blogging sites don't fool nearly everyone again. I know a lot of people really wanted this rumor to be true, but I hope the reasonable people realize to NEVER trust a word about these rumors these blog sites spread.

All they want is hits; negativity around the Xbox was hot around that time, so they either BS'd, or found a "reliable" source to confirm their doubts. I know there's a large minority of people who didn't fall for this horseshit, but next time that minority should be the majority, or at least bigger.

Also, the funniest thing is that none of this was neccesary, because if the Xbox had offline stuff, 99.99999999% of the consumers who might/are buy it would have never heard about this rumor-milling shit, because they don't follow gaming "news."

Really now?

Really.

Good.

Single player games should not require an online connection.

Also...

Always Online != Online Only

The 360 is always online. The 360 is not online only.

Really.

Don't be too sure. This is the generation AFTER the Xbox 1.5 bullshit. You think everyone would have learned after that?

Not having Always Online DRM will kill a lot of the negativity. I know a lot of my trepidation about the console is gone because of that. People are tired of waiting and all of the negative rumors have taken their toll. A lot of the hate will subside after the announcement.

MS was also in an unfortunate situation of not having announced while their competitor was outlining a strategy and philosophy that appeals directly to the GAF crowd.

Touche. Oh well, I guess this part of the new console cycle is just always the shittiest, either way I'm super-excited about the 21st still.

I did. :(

But nope... people have gotten older but yet we are seeing a repeat of 2005/2006.

The build-up to new console is always exciting but man do gaming forums turn into a mess.

"Proper logic and reasoning based on facts and trends? Haha... get out of here. Let's act like middle schoolers!"

No one gets rich doing that.

I'm well aware, that wasn't my point. MS is likely going to have a more mass market strategy and will make more money than Sony. Sony will likely gain a lot of support among the hardcore crowd with their direction. That's all.

Anyone have any idea as to why MS would send this email to their own employees that are working on Durango?

Wouldn't those employees already know if nextbox is always online or not?

Gonna give this a whirl. It's the same with the Advanced Tactical Fighter. The military asks you to build a power supply. They give you the specs and out put they want and how big it physically can be.

They may never tell you what it's even for at first. Say they do. It's for the ATF. Then that's all they tell you. Being the manufacturer/designer you may guess where it fits in. You won't know for sure. They may never tell you exactly where unless you really need to know. Thus keeping real leaks from happening.

So it's a real possibility everyone doesn't know everything. Look at the 8 gig of GDDR 5 in PS4. There were some pretty big people who didn't know it.

I believe Pete Hines?, said he hasn't seen the finished box. Granted it wasn't done but Pete hasn't seen it, who has? Can't be very many people. So Beth has dev kits but no final box.

Really now?

Are you going to try and argue the point?

Anyone who has been browsing the forum over the last couple of weeks should be well aware of the skew it has taken. It's not some GAF hive-mind thing. There is just an increasing number of threads and posts that clearly have agendas.

It'll go away to some degree when all is unveiled I imagine.

Sony has three forms of motion controls for the PS4 and is the company that made It Only Does Everything its slogan. They'll have a mass market strategy. At least I hope they do. It would suck to see them die. They've been clear that their initial pitch was to the hardcore, and the rest of the plan will reveal itself over the coming months. I look forward to seeing it. I hope their plan differs greatly from Microsoft's. I don't want to own HD twins again.

Yeah I agree. I'm fully aware as to why it's happening/happened - and the Always Online thing, when it is finally put to rest will likely calm some people down. I just find the whole thing a bit surprising - I wasn't on any forum when the consoles came around last time, so I had little idea what to expect... but the rumour threads have been fairly enlightening.
