i was trying to find someone from the list in OP to get invite into gaf guild, but that social search thing failed to find anyone. Probably one needs to be flaged lfg to show up there. how else can I do this? my char name is Kinan Gaf on Ultros.

The game is gorgeous on PC, playing with Ps3 controller and interface works amazingly well. You can choose xbox or ps controller configuration in settings and switch between JP and US layout for X/O buttons.

Oh SE, if you're going to have cut-scenes that cannot be skipped, you might want to try to make them enjoyable, just a tad. What a terrible first impression this game left me with. The days of people waiting multiple hours for the game to get better are long gone, there are too many other great games out there to have such a boring and uninspired opening. Hopefully SE revamps the beginning of the game, or this will turn some people off.

Easiest one is Jinko....dont forget the capital on the first letter...he was online 20 minutes ago when I logged off...

EDIT: or Kuro lol

I got an invite key some time ago (Beta 1 I think) and I didn't use it, with E3 and all I've gotten interested in the game again so I'm downloading. How long is the beta still going to run? I'm curious because I hope I still have some time to enjoy the game's world.

The beta will run for about a month. The first few tests will only be on the weekend. Later tests will run much longer.

Do PS3 and PC have different worlds to choose from? A friend of mine is in the PS3 beta and said he couldn't find the Shiva (EU) world that I am in on PC...

No, the servers are the same.

Yeah, it definitely has a slow start with the meaningless quests and I can see many losing interest fairly quickly. That said, I still love the world and it seems like something that may end up being enjoyable after you put some hours into it. Hoping it picks up some steam.

I quite like the personal hunting logs, actually. A nice little something to go hunt for - when the place is not swarming with Miqo'te and no mobs in sight.

Have seen many screenshots and have to say the game is gorgeous even at a stand still. Getting really excited for it.

On that note, I'm also still looking for a PC or PS3 key! If anyone's got an extra, let me know :)

As someone who has created several characters on two servers, I'm sick of those damn openings. I wish you could skip them - very annoying.

Yeah I can see that being bothersome when they wipe the servers. :/

Game's fun and reminds me of FFXII (which is supposed to be XI offline isn't it?) but I really wish the zone transitions were faster. I understand it has to find an instance to put me in but it's so slow compared to zooming around areas like FFXII. :/ Just makes me long for them to rebalance the game and add a few party members/re-work it for an offline mode or something.

That said most of the quests seem to be standard MMO fetch/kill this which isn't a big deal but there could be a little more variety in not having to hoof it everywhere for quests.

"You are far above the recommended level for this fate. Your contribution will be ignored."

(._. ) But I just saw a "level sync" during the fate. Not sure what that does.

Just made my switch from Black Mage to Gladiator and I'm glad I did. Gladiator's are pretty fun to play and I can actually do massive damage and fight tough enemies by myself. Also I'm glad I stopped being the short chibi character and started being a human again. I couldn't stand everyone looking down at me anymore lol.

Downgrades your level for the Fate. The tutorial explains that in a pop-up help message.

Hm, so is the "your level is too high" thing even after the downgrade? Or it's just letting you participate but you don't get the fate bonuses?

Also the hardened bronze underwear gear is so ugly ahh.

You guys should read some times the Patch notes. ;)
Level Sync has been added.
If you are six or more levels above that recommended for a particular FATE, your contribution will not be counted. However, by clicking the Level Sync button located above the objective list, your level will be adjusted automatically, allowing you to participate and receive rewards.

Forget boob-plate, male subligars are the new hotness in armour fashion circles.

Best thing about this beta is that you get both keys. If I want to play on my couch I don't have to switch displays on my pc, I just turn on the ps3 and away I go. Awesome. The PS3 looks pretty good, not sure what others are looking at, sure it isn't my ultra capable PC, but it didn't cost me 2800 either. It's more than sufficient.

I made my character last night on Ultros, I'll be on in about two hours after work. Kinda glad this phase is only lasting the weekend, I have Last of Us unopened just waiting to be played.

I tried to log into the beta forums last night to download the beta client and it was down for maintenance. I try again this morning, same thing. I want to play!

Haven't gotten to play much of it. Once immediate thing I notice, or maybe I'm just imagining it. Did the visuals take a hit in this version? Honestly remember it looking a lot better. I figured they might have to downgrade the visuals a bit to get it running as good as it is (and for the PS3 version of course). I don't mind really, just something I wonder.

Hmm, it looked about the same to me. It definitely ran better for me in this phase or maybe it's just because there were less people in one area at a time.

Checked my email yesterday to find a nice beta code waiting for me. Remember signing up months ago, but did not think I would be picked. Played until level 4 as a puglist, (I think it's called that) which is similar to a monk. Visuals are beautiful on maximum on my pc. Can't wait to play a bit more later today.

Well the visuals downgraded a little(not much) but you also need to keep in mind that the original game was empty. Was much easier to pit more detail into much less but now the environments are so full obviously there has to be a trade off.It looks much better now imo. The biggest difference really is the lighting.

Ah, thanks.

Also I think need to level up quite a bit before completing To Guard a Guardian. The first part is easy but the Gargoyle x Black Mage part kills me way too quickly.

Playing it on PC. The opening quests are the WORST and almost put me to sleep. The cast time on my ice and fire spells were sooo long and the spell effects were terrible. I wanted to like this game so bad. I haven't played an mmo serious in like 2 years and have hopped around to between many others and I don't think I can handle tab targeting any more.

I have played a little Tera and Neverwinter and neither kept me interested. Neverwinter felt claustrophobic and Tera although it looked great had very repetitive questing. That said the combat was great in both but in Realm Reborn I was bored to tears. Maybe I'm just done with the mmo tropes who knows but even putting myself in a mmo frame of mind this game felt dry.

Also did they have the events in the first version? The events were hilarious a mob with a lot of health shows up and everyone just runs to it and facerolls until it's dead...

If people like this then that's cool maybe i'm just not feelin' the genre anymore I will not be pre-ordering.

This sounds like GW2 =\

The lighting is fantastic even though the tree shadows spaz out sometimes on cutscenes.

I will say combat feels a tad too easy as a ffxi veteran, but I guess that's "modern mmo standards" in action. I don't like that I can faceroll mobs several levels above me. In ffxi, especially early ffxi, if a mob was the same level as you, then you'd be evenly matched with it and it'd be a close fight, sometimes down to the wire. The early game ff14 combat sort of lacks impact by comparison, but I suppose it caters well to the twitchy modern gamer. Still, I want to feel like I EARN my victories.

Aside from that, the game is completely incredible. Beautiful visuals, incredible world design, fun events. I will be playing day 1 for sure.

Yay, logging in finally! Any tips?

1. Unlock all the aetheryte crystals around the city, makes traveling faster.
2. Quests may be mundane at the start but they give good chunk of XP.
3. Items and gears have their own separate inventory spaces, the latter is called armoury chest.
4. Make sure you do your class quests every 5 levels, at 5 it unlocks hunting log (more easy XP), at 10 allows you to change to other classes after you speak to their respective receptionists.
5. Do Hunting Log! Mobs that are in your log have a symbol above their names, look like an ear or 3 parenthesis.
6. Experience chain (for those not familiar with FF MMO): Kill mobs that are at same level or higher within certain time, you can get bonus XP. After killing the 2nd one within a couple of minutes of the first, a counter will show up next to the XP bar, that indicates your window for the next kill, it becomes less and less as you go up in chain.
7. Do story quests, at close to 10 you should unlock inn housing and leves.
8. If you're going to idle for a while, do it in your inn housing or at a sanctuary outpost for rested XP!

Feel free to add more.

Unfortunately, that's how MMO has evolved and how players have come to expect it since WoW. Questing and accessible combat. The antiquated model of EQ and FFXI can no longer sustained. If you want a challenge, play a caster class, they are still very much underpowered when soloing compared to Disciples of War.

You can out range the mage and he won't attack you, just bring an antidote for the gargoyles venom, you should have a few from one of the earlier quest; if not the Tool vendors sell them pretty cheap. Once you get the gargoyle low, (End of quest spoiler)

Wow! Great tips. The game runs pretty ok on PS3. I thought it was going to be a much bigger disaster.

I don't know if I'd ever main this on PS3 but it's fun.

Yeah he wasn't really attacking but I wasn't doing much damage to the Gargoyle so I figured "maybe you just kill the mage. Maybe he's weak." Nope.

Will just try again. Probably need equipment with more magic defense though since his fire spells were pretty damaging to me.
