Wait what!?

Beta testing is going to happen every weekend (friday - sometime on sunday). They are going to leave things up for longer periods of time later.

so just some thoughts after hitting level 15

The Map is awful

There's some really rough spots(maybe I was just doing it wrong) but I basically ran out of quests at some points and had to use FATE's to level up(at both level 9->10 and 14>15)

They really mapped the game pretty well with the PS3 controller. With a keyboard, there shouldn't be too many problems for anyone wanting to play this way. Although PC is ideal with all the menus and stuff.

The difficulty spikes in some of the missions is kind of bizarre to me as i'm getting my ass kicked on the level 15 class quest. I'm not sure if you are able to bring in party members into the instances but trying to do it when it's available doesn't work out well.

Game overall looks good but it needs more polish. I never did play the original 14 but the overall feeling I get from the game is that it needs a couple of months to round out the rough parts but then again that's just my opinion at least

You can party up, and all members above the recommended level are synced to that level. Use the rest of the hunting log if you ran out of stuff, or simply explore. I think they were supposed to add experience points for finding new areas soon.

Wanted to do my Lv15-17 main story quest, but...

Playing it on PC. The opening quests are the WORST and almost put me to sleep. The cast time on my ice and fire spells were sooo long and the spell effects were terrible. I wanted to like this game so bad. I haven't played an mmo serious in like 2 years and have hopped around to between many others and I don't think I can handle tab targeting any more.

I have played a little Tera and Neverwinter and neither kept me interested. Neverwinter felt claustrophobic and Tera although it looked great had very repetitive questing. That said the combat was great in both but in Realm Reborn I was bored to tears. Maybe I'm just done with the mmo tropes who knows but even putting myself in a mmo frame of mind this game felt dry.

Also did they have the events in the first version? The events were hilarious a mob with a lot of health shows up and everyone just runs to it and facerolls until it's dead...

If people like this then that's cool maybe i'm just not feelin' the genre anymore I will not be pre-ordering.

This sounds like GW2 =\

Not every FATE event is like that. Those are just normal NMs...which usually are larger, more powerful versions of normal enemies. As for the early quests, thats how things usually are in online FF aside from the scenario quests...or even standard FF period. Not really sure how they could make awesome quests early on, but things pick up once you unlock the ability to change classes, unlock jobs, dungeon quests, do grand company quests (more story oriented stuff) and so on. The FATE events werent in the first version, but its basically what they did to replace randomly spawning Notorious Monsters (mini-bosses of sorts). Later on they will most likely be multi staged, and not just defeat this giant enemy, protect this area, or fight this horde of enemies.

Kinda surprised you think the spell effects look bad though. I havent played a casting class in awhile, but you probably wont see anything truly amazing until you unlock actual jobs related to casting (Black Mage, White Mage, Summoner, Scholar).

Hopefully I dont sound too defensive, but most JRPGs online and offline dont really tend to knock your socks off with visual effects early on.

Can someone explain what exactly the Hunting Log is? I don't recall that being in XIV 1.0 when I used to play. Thanks. :)

Hunting log gives you exp bonuses by exploring whatever area and defeating a certain type of monster. Basically its just like a checklist for each area and is different for each class/job. Say you're in West Thanalan, the first section of the Gladiator hunting log might be to: Defeat 5 Hammer Beaks, Defeat 2 Spriggan, Defeat 5 Efts, and then after completion of that, you get a large exp reward. Now that isnt the exact contents of the first section, was just giving a possible example. Later more difficult sections tend to mix enemy types, and you might even get rewarded with items and so on.

The code I received had been used already, so I'm still after a PC code. Thanks anyway brainpann, it was cool of you to send it my way regardless.

Be sure to double check everything. I received a code used/invalid message when trying to use a PS3 one, but it took a few tries to get it working.

Random question: Does any one know if then it launches, will we need the PS3 disc to play or can we just install it and play it off the HDD?

Dunno if this has been answered already but as a Legacy Member how do I get into this? I received no email and saw no link in my SE account.

Why is that? They have some sort of instance limit or something?

I think you still had to sign up, but all legacy get into early phase 4?

EDIT: Actually -

Bayohne:
Greetings,

We've been investigating the issue throughout the day, so I apologize for the delay in getting a response for you.

There are a few things I'd like you to confirm (even though some are obvious) just to be sure:
Check your email spam filter to ensure it wasn't caught there
Confirm that the email address registered on your Square Enix account "E-mail address 1" is up to date as this is where we delivered the notification. If this is out of date, you will need to contact the Support Center.
The email is being sent from noreply@xmail.square-enix.com if you can search for that in your email as well.

If you were unable to locate the email, we request that you contact the Support Center so that they can assist you personally. I'm extremely sorry that this may impact your ability to play during this weekend's test and we're continuing to investigate the issue and will report back as soon as we have more details to share.

Yeah, tried a few times and no dice. brainpann sent it to someone else before me who replied back saying they didn't need it anymore, but it looks like they forwarded it on to a friend or something without letting brainpann know.

I see, that sucks :( I would've forwarded my code to you if I knew about the registration key beforehand. Right now I'm the opposite, I have the PS3 download but my SE account is not legacy :p

I am enjoying the game but I am not going to wait in line to do a story quest. I will just wait for SE to fix it.

Back to some Dragon Quest IX...

Oh that's really cool. Will probably be a great way to level if you run out of quests off and on (in addition to doing FATES). Thanks!

I havent reached that point yet, but in 1.0 I dont remember having to wait for anyone story wise...so unless its just a target thing, I dunno whats going on there.

If anyone has a Ps3 code they have and don't need it I'll gladly take it off their hands so my brother can play with me, thanks :)

Got the beta email yesterday, but was caught up between some homework and PS+ downloads hogging all my bandwidth. Just linked my account, and it's updating the client. Hopefully, I'll be able to get online by 1 pm...

So how long is this beta supposed to last on ps3? I've got a code but if its only a short time I may as well gift it to someone who may get some more enjoyment from it.

I think its till early in the morning tomorrow. Its running on JP time so its a little off seeing it started at 2am on Friday.

Just started this up on PS3, made a Midlander Hyur named "Rhyste Heiral." Thanks to Jinko Jinko I've joined the LS (nice not having to make somebody travel across the world to personally hand me one, I've gotta say). Now, time to figure out wtf I'm doing. :P

Also, does anybody know of a list of /commands available online somewhere? Everything I've found is either disabled or outdated, I can't tell which, and a bunch of the old FFXI commands don't seem to work here.

Just gotta say the game has improved so much. Its a different game all together and im starting to feel the ffxi magic again, come on august :D.

Playing this on a living room TV at 1080p 60fps on PS4, and on the sofa/vita when the TV's in use (Also in bed), is going to be glorious..
This HUD on a Vita screen? Just no.

Is it normal that I can walk through all NPC characters and Chocobos and such?

And can I move the chat box up a bit on PS3? When I mark the text input area felt I can't see what the symbols underneath says.

Another question. Can I see my playing time anywhere?

The map feels really cumbersome trying to figure out where to go for quests.

So far the world doesn't really feel cohesive because its broken down into small chunks.

The UI and fonts are nice though.

I also wish you could skip that god awful opening, when you are making multiple characters its a drag.
