Playing it on PC. The opening quests are the WORST and almost put me to sleep. The cast time on my ice and fire spells were sooo long and the spell effects were terrible. I wanted to like this game so bad. I haven't played an mmo serious in like 2 years and have hopped around to between many others and I don't think I can handle tab targeting any more.
I have played a little Tera and Neverwinter and neither kept me interested. Neverwinter felt claustrophobic and Tera although it looked great had very repetitive questing. That said the combat was great in both but in Realm Reborn I was bored to tears. Maybe I'm just done with the mmo tropes who knows but even putting myself in a mmo frame of mind this game felt dry.
Also did they have the events in the first version? The events were hilarious a mob with a lot of health shows up and everyone just runs to it and facerolls until it's dead...
If people like this then that's cool maybe i'm just not feelin' the genre anymore I will not be pre-ordering.
Not every FATE event is like that. Those are just normal NMs...which usually are larger, more powerful versions of normal enemies. As for the early quests, thats how things usually are in online FF aside from the scenario quests...or even standard FF period. Not really sure how they could make awesome quests early on, but things pick up once you unlock the ability to change classes, unlock jobs, dungeon quests, do grand company quests (more story oriented stuff) and so on. The FATE events werent in the first version, but its basically what they did to replace randomly spawning Notorious Monsters (mini-bosses of sorts). Later on they will most likely be multi staged, and not just defeat this giant enemy, protect this area, or fight this horde of enemies.
Kinda surprised you think the spell effects look bad though. I havent played a casting class in awhile, but you probably wont see anything truly amazing until you unlock actual jobs related to casting (Black Mage, White Mage, Summoner, Scholar).
Hopefully I dont sound too defensive, but most JRPGs online and offline dont really tend to knock your socks off with visual effects early on.
Can someone explain what exactly the Hunting Log is? I don't recall that being in XIV 1.0 when I used to play. Thanks.
Hunting log gives you exp bonuses by exploring whatever area and defeating a certain type of monster. Basically its just like a checklist for each area and is different for each class/job. Say you're in West Thanalan, the first section of the Gladiator hunting log might be to: Defeat 5 Hammer Beaks, Defeat 2 Spriggan, Defeat 5 Efts, and then after completion of that, you get a large exp reward. Now that isnt the exact contents of the first section, was just giving a possible example. Later more difficult sections tend to mix enemy types, and you might even get rewarded with items and so on.
