I think the beta just crashed in transitioning from zones. I can global chat and see the linkshell and global chat going but I can't access menus because it's been sitting here for like 5 mins "loading."

Not sure what I should do in this case.

Also is there anyway to hotkey spells and stuff on the PS3 version to 1-0 on a keyboard? All the help files on the PS3 version is for controllers which while nice isn't how I'm playing this.

AFAIK on PS3 keyboards can only be used for text chat

It can be used for movement and everything. If you open the options menu you can set keybinds but I'm not seeing keybinds for hotkeying the spells that are in that cross-hotbar GUI thing. It's really funky and one of the things Square should fix if they're giving you the option to control the game from both ways.

I wish the gamepad controls were better but overall I'm having fun.

Any chance on cross buy working between PS3 and PS4 (like cross buy between PS3/Vita)? I'd imagine not (because Square). I'd like to bite on the PS3 version but I'd hold off since there'd be a PS4 version coming along later.

Ah, is that so? That's much better

Been playing this since I woke up this morning. Really loving it. Sucks our characters aren't going to carry over. I thought I chose a class I wouldn't really want to be my main, that way I wouldn't mind starting over when the time came. Actually really liking playing as a healer. So, think I'm done until phase 4, start again as a healer for real.

But, yeah. Major improvement over the original release. Probably be the first MMO I've ever paid a monthly fee for.

They're supposed to be putting vouchers in the PS3 version to redeem for the PS4 version when it launches.

Yeah, the mouse and keyboard controls take a while to get used to (since I've never played an MMO before unless you count FFXII) but they're pretty practical and like most other PC-controls in non-MMO genres.

The problem is the help files don't explain ANY of it on the PS3 version since they are using the controller for it instead of including both. It's why I've been having to use the mouse to hit the hotkey bars instead of hotkeying the stuff I want to a key.

Pretty :D

This is on standard settings only too :D

Why would the quest not work for anyone if someone cuts in line? Like the game is aware of the line being formed?

I want to see this line of people, don't know where it's at.

Using the Xbox 360 gamepad for this on PC is truly excellent. I had a chance to play the PS3 verison at E3 with the dualshock3, but had no clue what I was doing and was a little frustrated. Now that I've gotten the hang of it, I love it. Feels reminiscent of FF12.

Only had a chance to play up to lvl10 so far with one character, but I'm really digging it. I played FF11 back in the day for over a full year straight, and have never played an MMO for that length of time since. That was a truly immersive experience, albeit super archaic by today's gameplay standards. The polish and design of this game is truly stellar, and it looks incredible on highest settings running at 60fps.

I used to main a Samurai in FF11, are there any classes similar to that in FF14? I've only played a Marauder so far.

Before I download this, how improved is the performance since the overhaul? It was quite clunky last time I played and I have a good system. Also, how responsive is the UI? The delays in practically everything were a major deal breaker for me. Sounds like all this is fixed since I don't really see anyone complaining?

FF11 is still a game that exists, that you can play. If that's the game you want, go for it!

I think that's the path I must take if I want to play am MMO. This game is making me feel like I'm playing WoW with some FF stuff trinkled in. Gonna give it another go or maybe make a new character but as of now this game is making me wanna cry with how bad it is.

Got to play for a couple hours so far, it's running even better than phase 2 and I'm liking that we can choose from over 3 classes now.

They've changed the map though, and for the worse overall . You used to be able to select the map and scroll it while moving, but for some reason you can now only interact with the map while you're stationary.

This is only a problem with gamepad controls, but I prefer not having to use the mouse to scroll the map when moving.

Anything I can do to use the gamepad with the map while moving? Any settings to change or a different button combo?

I guess it's related to this, though I'm not sure if the line thing is true.

Found it:

I think the "stay in line" thing is just that persons way of trying to keep people from being a dick and cutting. Be funny for someone to accept the quest and then just stand there if it is literally only one person can do it at a time.

Anyway, it's the quest I need to do next. So, good time to call it. I'll be back when I get to keep my character. Definitely digging it, though.

Is this game worth a sub fee?

In my opinion: No. But I've been a staunch off-line MMO-er. I don't like having to pay a sub fee for games.

But is the game terrible? No. It's pretty nice and reminds me FFXII a little which makes me sad because I know Square isn't going to do a "FFXII-3" at all ever. :(

So here's my final analysis on the game:

I've played all the races and 3 classes and so far the ranger is my favorite. Gladiator got a little boring after while, conjurer doesn't really do good if you don't have a party to actually heal, and the black mage (forgot name) is the more offensive version of the conjurer. Ranger's are very mobile in battle and I like moving around a lot during battle because I hate sitting still and just letting loose.

For races the cat race was my favorite only because its like a human but with a tail and they can run for longer periods of time.

The graphics in the game when playing at night doesn't do the game justice, but when its daylight the graphics take a whole overhaul on greatness. At daylight almost everything shines and looks beautiful. The battling is pretty fun no matter what class I was but some got boring after a while, while ranger was just overall fun to me.

I give the game a +1 just for having controller support, and even making it superb. You can literally play this game fully with a controller, unless you want to type. So far the game is pretty fun, if this game was a one time purchase like GW2 I would have purchased it on spot. Since its sub based I gotta think REALLY hard on if its worth it.

A final analysis made without even grouping yet? Allllrighty.

BTW, when we do an OT or restart the community thread, can we request no payment bitching? Shit is tired.

It is scheduled to be an open beta, as far as I know. Pre-order people will get in during the period between the end of phase 4 and the official release. As for when it starts, no one knows, but it should be in a few weeks.

Do 1.0 people also get in between phase 4 and official release?

So an I the only one who thinks the PS3 version also look good? I know the PC version looks fantastic based on the screens here but I really don't think the PS3 one is hideous.

Nope. I think it looks pretty good. Especially the character models. The foilage and shadows from the foilage don't look that great. But interior areas looks pretty nice to me. If I like it enough I'll get the PS3 version and upgrade to the PS4 version when available.

I love how accessible this game is, with the new tutorial features.
Compared to this, FFXI was an enigma MMO wrapped in a mystery.
I had to consult online forums and use guidebooks when I attempted to play FFXI.

I think the PS3 graphics look decent enough, but will certainly jump to the PS4 version the moment it releases.

Checked my email accounts. And it looks like I've got two beta codes. Is it possible to give one to someone?

I would love it :)

EDIT: Just take in consideration there are two codes, one for registration and one to download the client on the PS3. You will need the registration one if you are not a legacy player.

So I am a legacy player that stopped playing a while back.

I haven't taken part in any of the ARR alpha or beta testing. I do know that Ive received at least one e-mail since ARR testing started but I don't remember if it had a code in it or not.

I have not received an e-mail for phase 3 but I can log in to the site and read the forums.

Should I be able to participate in this phase? If so am I just waiting on SE to e-mail me with a code? Anything I can do to force it?

You will need to check your email and see if it has a code to download the PC or PS3 client. There are legacy players on GAF that still don't have that code, so you should watch out for that.

Wait, you're in here answering all our newb questions, but you aren't actually in the beta!?

I have the game pre-ordered, but I don't have access to the beta. A legacy friend gave me his PS3 download code, but I need a registration code too, and he didn't have one :(

played on PC till lvl12 - was ok, didn't really enjoyed it; bugfree to my suprise. I had more fun in the SW:TOR Beta :/

anyways, i still got a PS3 code to give. Whoever guesses my favourite Final Fantasy title with a screenshot gets the code. (one try though)

Edit: gone to Zeroth

This game is really really bad. I'm trying to like it but it's hard. I'm not sure how it's possible for anyone to play this game on a gamepad. It's so clunky. Especially the targeting. Keyboard or bust.

Only thing positive I can say about this game so far is one of the better crystal theme songs in the FF franchise.

i logged in earlier in the afternoon to find a long line of people lined up behind an npc, thought it was weird, shrugged it off and ran off and killed some monsters.

i'm just glad i finished the quest before i had to start lining up.

Game looks incredibly inconsistent from a visual standpoint. Some areas look really nice, some look like trash. What gives?

Well, most zones are entirely now, but some are re-used from original FFXIV. So there's some inconsistency there.

Also, texture density and resolution seems to be all over the place. You get the feeling the 512 MB of RAM on PS3 is going to be a big problem later on, much as the PS2's limitations caused issues for FFXI.

lmao

Probably trying to figure out how to target NPCs just to have a conversation. I find it weird on the gamepad it doesn't auto-target the nearest enemy when you press X
