Just started playing this game and loving it, its my first moba game so it feels like I have some hard work and time to spend to learn...

Only played around 25 games so far... mainly picking Zeus and Sniper to try being lame on distance and not feed too much... any suggestions on what other heroes that might be easy for a noob learning to play?

Omniknight, axe, centaur warrunner, dazzle, death prophet, jakiro, juggernaut, lifestealer, lina , lycan, nightstalker, razor, spirit breaker, tusk, warlock, witch doctor are all fairly straightforward heroes , their skills are easy to use.

I've already moved on, you know how it is bro. I discover a hero is OP three months before it happens, then he becomes first pick/ban, then I stop picking him and move on to the next best thing. ez.

Who is OP this month? Is it Slark?

question about Nyx: after I get magic wand, arcane boots and dagon 1, what do I go for? dagon 2? or ethereal blade? or something else

I think Dagon is too expensive for what I does, but what do I know. Etheral is great on him, so is Blink.

Some people like building him with Sange&Yasha and stuff like that.

It allows you to burst down a single hero while everyone else can keep farming/pushing/whatever. That's worth double the price in my opinion.

Ethereal Blade is good, but really expensive. You may not ever get the farm for it until really late game. Blink is a good investment on him.

I have never heard of people building S&Y on Nyx, I can't see the need for it. It sounds like a useless item to buy on him.

Dagon 5 if it's a pubstomp.

Man playing some Dota 2 with fellow GAFers felt so good. Sucks that tomorrow it's more work again.

It was fun! The first one I did not do very well with Lich, but in the second I raged a phantom lancer with clockwerk. Amazing feeling.

I need to practice trilanes/roaming... but tomorrow back to work.

Also just saw Navi vs Orange game1 of the Alienware Cup... great game.

What hero is that rage change for? Such a generic name that I don't remember off the top of my head and searching would be difficult.

Anyway - I don't know why they don't just put muted people into low priority (not necessarily muted). Wouldn't that be better? Cause when they're muted but still in the regular MM pool, it just makes things generally worse for their teammates.

90% of matches are totally lopsided. whichever you are on, that is boring as fuck. last game 60/20 them. this game 12 min in, 25/1 our side. oh how fun.

Most of my games are pretty equal in terms of technical skill. Also Dota is a game that promotes spiralling out of control. Comebacks are hard earned. Watch the replay of the game and if one side is winning every lane no wonder it ends in a 25/1.

Even in pro matches "even" scores are pretty rare. Also matchmaking in Dota can't account for many variables, like if you chose single draft or all random maybe a player that only knows how to play support is forced to play carry or the other way around. maybe a player gets a hero he has barely played once. Maybe their lane is weird and something doesn't work as intended, maybe they are drunk/high

For what it's worth I think the matchmaking is actually working pretty well in creating balanced teams in terms of experience and game sense.

So what pet heroes would you guys like to see buffed into the competitive scene? I'd love it if we saw more of Shadow Shaman and Undying honestly.

After seeing it for awhile, giving Chain Frost 10 bounces is mostly useless. Unless it's a situation where you have a magnus/Enigma/FV ulti to lock people down it usually doesnt make 10 bounces because it's so slow that enemies can easily move out of the way. I'd like to see it reduced back to 7 or even make it scale 5/6/7 but give the move speed of the chain frost a boost. Put a premium on being in the right position when you use it.

Is anyone else's Dota 2 Replay Highlights not working for any given replay? I click on highlight and it still shows me the entire game.

It is interesting to see how much Magnus went out of favor.

It's also interesting that Naga is making a comeback, she was pretty much gone after that base damage nerf and taking away the Dark Seer Vacuum under Song.

Glad to see OD getting hot right now though. I always wondered why nobody ran him. Sure, he's countered by BKB, but he's still strong regardless.

Surprised to see KotL on his way out though. Despite the Chakra nerfs, it's still a great skill. Not sure why he's falling out of favor.

You know, I think Sand King's VOICE is heavily underrated. He's so badass.

This so much!

I love when he says "Stinger!"

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
A game that is not "close" doesn't mean it isn't even. This is truer the further down the ladder you go, and I can see that most people complaining about matchmaking are very far down the ladder indeed.

DOTA is a game of compounding advantages. It takes skill and team coordination to overcome a lead, two things that are severely lacking in the lower brackets.

There's only a two things a solo player can do to combat this:

1) Play better. Don't blame the matchmaking, the mode, the feeders, FOTM strats, muting, whatever. The blame game doesn't help you improve. Learning from your mistakes does. Just keep playing until you get out of the worst of the trench.

2) Play carries. Playing support is fine to start out with but if you want to really get your win rate as high as possible as fast as possible then you need to commit to high impact roles. Mid and hard carries are the best for this job.
