Wilkommen new folk

So i saw the trailer for the next spiderman film, which made me realise I hadn't seen the first of this new series, The Amazing Spiderman. So I watched it last night.

What they should have called it was The Um-Haha-Yeah-Like-No-Haha Uh-Yeah Awkward Spiderman

The scriptwriter for this thing should be shot.

This fucking scene made me wanna tear my dick of and hurl it at the screen:

The whole movie has dialogue like this to varying degrees. He's even a-a-awkward during action scenes. I'm simmering with rage.
Welcome to the club, my friend.

It's embarrassing how Flash Thompson, a character who only appears for 5 minutes in the whole movie, has better character development than the main character.

What a terrible Parker. And look at what Sony wants for the other movies.

SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT TO EXPAND THE SPIDER-MAN UNIVERSE ON
SCREEN WITH ALL-STAR WRITING TEAM

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to
Collaborate with
Marc Webb and Producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach
on Developing the Universe and Expanding the Story in
“The Amazing Spider-Man 3,” “Venom,” and “The Sinister Six”

CULVER CITY, Calif., December 12, 2013 – In a move to forge a new legacy in the story of
Peter Parker on screen, Sony Pictures Entertainment, in association with Marvel Entertainment,
is developing several new projects in the Spider-Man franchise, with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto
Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to collaborate on overseeing the developing
story over several films that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, it was announced
today by Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, and Hannah Minghella, president of
Production for the studio.

The five writers, along with the two producers and Marc Webb, have formed a franchise brain
trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread
throughout the films. Under the deals, the studio announced that Kurtzman & Orci & Pinkner
are writing the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which the studio hopes Webb will
return to direct; the film will go into production next fall for release on June 10, 2016. In
addition, the team will build on the cinematic foundation laid by Webb, Arad, and Tolmach in the
first two movies. They will expand the franchise as Kurtzman & Orci & Solomon will write the
screenplay for Venom, which Kurtzman will direct; also, Goddard will write, with an eye to
direct, The Sinister Six, focusing on the villains in the franchise. Hannah Minghella and Rachel
O’Connor will oversee the development and production of these films for the studio.

In tapping these five writers, the studio and the producers are guiding the future of the franchise
with the writer/producers who have each played significant and key roles in developing such
highly successful franchises, films, and series as Star Trek, Transformers, “Alias,” “Fringe,” Men
in Black, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, World War Z, “Lost,” Cloverfield, The Cabin in the
Woods, and Marvel’s upcoming “Daredevil” series.

Commenting on the announcement, Belgrad said, “The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our
studio’s greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have assembled to delve
more deeply into the world that Marc, Avi and Matt have begun to explore in The Amazing
Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We believe that Marc, Alex, and Drew have
uniquely exciting visions for how to expand the Spider-Man universe in each of these upcoming
films.”
URRRRRGH! Where's Sam Raimi when you need him? He actually knew how to make a good Spidey movie.

Sam Raimi is where he should be, getting fucking Evil Dead 4/Army of Darkness 2 up and running.

But yeah, I feel bad everytime I wonder what would happen if Marvel had the film rights to both Spidey and X-Men. Sigh.

edit: just found out via google that AOD2 isn't happening. goddamnit, raimi you had one job

So my SS gift was in my possession for less than two hours before I had to open it. Certain members have already set a precedent for childish impatience, so that alleviated my guilt somewhat.

Nice work SS, absolutely perfect! Definitely raised a good chuckle and a shit-eating grin. It's the sort of thing that anyone who knows me might've bought, so I have no idea. There is one clue, but it's tenuous at best.
Oh my, they look good. Who sells 'em?
Available at all good retailers.

(Supermarkets sell them, it's not like a speciality thing. Try them man, they'll change your life!)

I enjoyed it, more than Raimi's trilogy to be honest. It didn't have as good a handle on the humour, and it was missing the wonderful J.K Simmons, but in most other aspects it was an improvement IMO.

Garfield and Stone are far more attractive and watchable than those two dullards from Raimi's movies, the action scenes were more exciting and it was just a more interesting take on the story for my money.

Not that I'm an expert, I've never read any Spidey comics, but it certainly appealed to me more as a piece of cinema. The CGI in the second movie looks whack though, don't know what's going on there! It looks like an FMV from a PS1 game.

Garfield played an unlike dick of a character who doesn't learn a damn thing about responsibility in the way that Tobey's did. He's already a bit of a smug, cocky type, which means that there's no difference between the Peter and Spidey and people are somehow praising as being "more faithful". And the action does not hold a candle to any of Raimi's movies. Yes, even Spiderman 3.

For example...

And regarding the sequel, even my mate who actually liked ASM the best thinks that this might very well be the worst one yet.

Also, I always love going back to Movie Bob's review and initial follow up to the movie.

The action scenes were good but the choice of villain was poor in my opinion; but what can you do when the original films already picked the best villains? I guess the answer is wait for the sequels to re introduce old baddies like Green Goblin and Venom.

Stone is more of a catch than Dunst but the "I really like you but I can't tell you that I'm Spiderman" thing was lazily handled...

And it never seemed like her relationship with Peter put her at any risk. Sure her dad cops it, but otherwise it seemed pretty easy. Compare that to Green Goblin (or was it Dr Octopus?) forcing Spiderman to choose between saving a bus full of kids and saving her.

I'm not a big fan of Tobey Maguire in those films but his transformation into Spiderman and his reaction to the death of his Uncle seemed more genuine. I guess that actually has less to do with Maguire and more with the narrative.

I think that sums it up really. Garfield's Spiderman movie looked better, had better action and more physically attractive leads but tripped over itself in a bunch of places where the original flowed quite smoothly.

You can add me to the Radiohead list. Although it took me a couple of years to recover from a really bad Hail to the Thief-era stadium gig.

What was bad about the gig?
I saw them at Reading a couple of years back & that was fantastic. One of the best headline sets I've seen (along with Sigur Rós at Latitude and Bruce Springsteen at Glastonbury)

Partly it was the man I was with, partly it was the seats we were in and part of it was that I'm just not a fan of Hail to the Thief. It was just a stinky experience all round. Never been to a good stadium gig.

I bet that was amazing, though.

I've seen them a few times, but the first was in Dublin '03 on the Hail To The Thief tour. I'm not a particularly big fan of HTTT either, but the great thing with Radiohead is that they've got a back catalogue that is just a treasure trove of awesomeness. So even though they did quite a few HTTT songs, the whole set was like 24-25 songs long, with two encores! Deffo value for money.

On the subject of stadium gigs, meh they are what they are. I usually prefer smaller venues if I can get them though.

For those who have been to George Square in Glasgow during the Christmas period, what activities are there for people to do? I know there is the ice rink.

Sometimes I really like Radiohead, then I stop listening to them for a bit, a few weeks/months later I start listening before stopping after a few months of listening to them. I'm currently in the "just started listening to them again" phase.

Anyway, I finished my final shift at Blockbuster. And also introduced the "somewhat sarcastic prick" version of me. Doesn't help that I had annoying customers right away and was still tired (although the second part is my fault as I only got 2 and a half hours sleep). Still, I got myself the rest of the year off and go do something for New Year's, because I deserve it.

I think my problem might be that it's not a treasure trove for me...I'm in from OK Computer to Amnesiac and then back in at In Rainbows. I'm the one person whom The Bends leaves cold.

Me: "More Hunting Bears!" Crowd": "Yay! Fake Plastic Trees"

Sam Raimi is where he should be, getting fucking Evil Dead 4/Army of Darkness 2 up and running.

It'll never happen, if it was going to we would've had Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash a few years back. The various Army of Darkness comics are quite good though, really enjoying Army of Darkness vs. Hack/Slash at the moment. Ash is in Poker Night 2 as well, he's quite funny in that.

Never really liked any of the Spider-Man movies, which is strange because he's probably my favourite of the A-list superheroes. He's very tough to get right IMO.

So it looks like I'm getting a Playstation 4 tomorrow.

Also, my Secret Santa hasn't turned up yet. I'm starting to worry.

Hope you enjoy it. Had mine for about 2 weeks now. First home console I've had since the GameCube and I'm loving it. Feel free to add me to your network of virtual friends, should you be so inclined.

Goddamn Agents of Shield is so goddamn awful

Been patient with show but think time to drop after this mid season finale. Snail pace plot progression, cliche and dull character writing and fucking terribly shot action scenes.

Think Arrow has spoiled me

To be fair, Season 2 of Arrow has been so good any show is going to look shit in comparison

Arrow started to improve massively half way into season 1 but yeah season 2 has been insane. The pace of the show is incredible trimmed out filler and made each episode mean something. Plus the massive comic book name drops and villains that have appeared is god tier.

Fuck laurel though some awful writing for her seems the writers make her a worse person every new episode for shits n giggles

I have no idea how they're going to turn it around and make her likeable enough to come back to the forefront as Ollie's main love interest and Black Canary. But eating a few cheeseburgers would be a good start.

By the way, don't know if anyone knows the answer to this but I thought eshop game codes marked as Download on GAME's website would be immediate delivery via the website or email, is that not the case?

Have her OD on pills then taken by league of shadows thrown in Lazarus pit and brainwashed then force to eat food. Basically reboot the character or in my world kill Laurel and keep current Black canary or go insane have felicity as BC

Yeah I have a feeling there will be a lot of people who don't bother to send anything out. Sent my gift weeks ago but haven't received anything in return. And now Coldman is banned, so I guess whoever got him won't be receiving feedback, may not get a gift either. Just a shame since some people actually did spend money and put effort into sending a gift.

I suppose that's the risk you take dealing with strangers on the Internet though.

EDIT:

The one thing that could save Xmas, would be if the ghost of KentPaul rose again and began posting once more, thus restoring holiday cheer to boys and girls of all ages.

Felicity as BC would never work. As Oracle though......
But yeah, they need to do something drastic to make people accept Laurel.

Bah humbug Grinchben!

I don't think anyone in the SS would just not bother to send a gift. And just because Coldman asked to be banned on here doesn't mean we're not in touch with him through other means, or that he wouldn't bother sending his gift.

I really don't understand why you keep coming in here if you think that little of us?

Please miss don't report me, I meant no offense to the clique. I was just sharing my thoughts with DS who was also expressing concern about the current state of affairs.
My last shift at the university today. Taught some of them for half their time at uni! Plus, Charlotte's birthday. So, time to get pissed.
Congrats again man, feels good to celebrate ending one cycle and moving to another. I'm still stuck in limbo since the final grades for this semester aren't due to be posted until Wednesday.

there's probably just a load of people waiting until the last minute

we'll happily have whoever doesn't send something ostracised

Thanks, I had one pre-ordered when they were announced but I was a twat and I cancelled it. My PSN is Deaf_Spacker.

Awesome, add me as a friend on PSN when you get it (I am danj2k)

Thanks mang, will do.

I don't think that it's a case of people not bothering, it's more of a case of people being very relaxed about it.

I miss Kent Paul, our Steam chats were incredibly random.

I tried Tesco, they no have them there. D: I'm in Southampton tomorrow though so I'll have a sniff around there. You've got me intrigued!

Should be pretty instant, unless their over zealous fraud bot has flagged you. I'd had orders cancelled a few times for no good reason.

I was going to bail earlier this season, but the last two episodes have been really good. I did find myself shouting encouragement to Ollie to push Laurel into the fire at his parents place though, she's not a great actress IMO and her character has become even more dislikeable of late.

As to Secret Santa things, there is always someone that develops an irrational fear of the post office, hopefully things will balance out in the end though.

So it's finally the weekend!

I'm hoping Lego Marvel turns up so me and the missus can sit down and play some co-op. Gonna put up the Christmas decs as well.

What are your plans?

I'm hoping Lego Marvel turns up so me and the missus can sit down and play some co-op. Gonna put up the Christmas decs as well.

What are your plans?

Having a Game of Thrones party tonight. Should be looking forward to it but people are bailing left right and centre, which is causing the very very rare occurance of me feeling shitty about my self worth. No I don't want you all to chime in with how awesome I am, most of the time I am aware of this. It's just when people can't be bothered to come to your birthday party you wonder how much you matter to people, it's a little depressing.

Well who'd've thought it, I guess I'm human just like you lot after all.

For those who have been to George Square in Glasgow during the Christmas period, what activities are there for people to do? I know there is the ice rink.

There are a few carnival rides and the occasional band playing. Its mostly the ice rink though.

That's awful. It's happened to me before and it happens to me every birthday (in gamer speak I get a <50% attach rate). All I can say is that it definitely won't be you. Most people are just really, really flaky. I can say this with some certainty as I am one of those who always flakes out.

Just forget about them and have a good time - it's about enjoying yourself and your night. If people come, great. If they don't, sigh, feel disappointed in them (not in you) and move on.

Gonna try GAME's web chat system to get my order sorted out. It's not looking good so far, their system is overloaded apparently.

EDIT: and isn't that convenient, looks like they don't do customer service over the phone so I can't just phone them instead. Great.

I think my problem might be that it's not a treasure trove for me...I'm in from OK Computer to Amnesiac and then back in at In Rainbows. I'm the one person whom The Bends leaves cold.

Huh. Yeah, that's kinda strange. I know plenty of people who don't like Radiohead, but not too many Radiohead fans who don't like The Bends.

So it's finally the weekend!

I'm hoping Lego Marvel turns up so me and the missus can sit down and play some co-op. Gonna put up the Christmas decs as well.

What are your plans?

It's the gun club Christmas meal tonight, looking forward to that. Otherwise, pretty much just playing Fallout 2 in my pajamas (and maybe wrapping presents if I exhaust literally every other activity - hate wrapping).

Not much, gym, shopping, then hang out with the lads and get wrecked. There is a Human Beatbox Championship happening at Independent tonight, so I might see if people want to go to that.

It's right near Christmas, people will probably be skint/super busy. I doubt anyone is bailing because you suck!

Chin up Musha, I'm sure it'll be a giggle. That is until someone breaks their neck in a incident involving a mountain bike and a mop.

;)

Well, once I got through to someone on the GAME webchat it was quite a refreshing experience (though I wasn't best pleased with what he had to say):

GAME customer service said:
Please wait. An operator will be with you shortly. If you are contacting us regarding the recent Xbox One or PS4 announcement then please visit our website for all the latest information.
One moment please...
We are currently experiencing a high volume of chats, we apologise for the delay.

xxxx says:
Hello Danj. My name is xxxx how can I help you?

Me:
hello

Me:
Order #############, I purchased 4 Nintendo 3DS download game codes from your website expecting to receive them immediately by web or email, instead the order is stuck at status "Unshipped", does this mean you are sending them by post?

Me:
my card was authorised by 3D Secure and I have received no anti fraud notifications from my bank so the transaction was not blocked

xxxx says:
The payment currently requires authorization. This happens from time to time. Unfortunately all we can do is cancel the order so you can make a new one, or wait for it to process.

Me:
OK so you are saying the delay is at my bank's end?

xxxx says:
I actually don't know. This is the 7th or 8th time I've seen this issue in 2 hours today. I think there's a problem with our digital download system.

Me:
ah I see, do you have a status page or email list that I can sign up to to be notified when this is fixed?

xxxx says:
Unfortunately not, no.

Me:
is it likely to be something that will be fixed over the weekend, or will I have to wait until the next working day (i.e. Monday)?

xxxx says:
The web team that deal with this aren't in until Monday, so unless it's just a slight hiccup in the system, it won't be fixed until then. To be honest with you I have no way of knowing exactly what the issue is.

Me:
OK, well thank you for the information. I will leave the order to process as I think cancelling it will probably just introduce more delay for me. Thank you for your time.

xxxx says:
Again my name is xxxx and if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

So yeah, kudos points for honesty and straight talking. But it sucks that their web team don't work weekends.
