Nintendo removes all mentions of VRR Docked compatibility from their websites.

Not happy about this. Did they fucking cheap out on the dock HDMI spec?
They cheap out on everything else is this really a question?

Too much crow to eat in that thread to count

"Cheap" Nintendo would not have bothered with this. I still think its a software thing to iron out in the end.

I've been out to alot of places and i never see anyone carrying a switch around and that includes malls, restaurants, the park etc. I don't see kids carrying them, adults, essentially no one. No one is going to be carrying a big ass switch 2 tablet around in public especially in cities where u could be robbed and no one is going to be doing so anyway because they have a smartphone that does wayyyyyyy more than a switch 2 can and is muchhhh smaller and easier to carry around. Smartphones made the portable aspect useless and i feel like people in japan are the majority of users who care about that the portable aspect.

I've never seen anyone carrying a Switch either. But during the DS says it seemed every kid in a shopping mall or grocery store was using one following the parents around.

Credit where credit is due. Nntendy made bank on Switch. But those promo videos at the beginning of every 30-something adult and college kids partying at a picnic table playing 4-player switch staring at a tiny screen, I've never seen it or heard anyone doing it.

I bought my nieces a Switch way back and they and their friends who play it just seem to play it docked at each other's homes TVs. I dont get a sense they crowd around a Switch at recess playing that way.

Playing portable outside with a reflective screen is horrible anyway. But I hear most people play it in public transit or when staying over somewhere.

Switch is a lifestyle product. Nintendo really sold the idea of Switch well.

Ya i even went to a gaming convention near me and no one was carrying the switch around. I feel like it's just too big and too inconvenient too take out anywhere because most people who go out only carry there wallet, cellphone, and earbuds/headphones and that's it and aren't going to bring a specific case to hold the switch in when they're not using it. And i can't name alot of instances where you're going to go out and take your switch because you're going to be with friends, gf/bf, family etc and paying attention to them and not playing games.

yo, you need to stop posting videos from that idiot for real. even if you distrust DF, you couldn't use a worse alternative lol

just for context, in a recent video he was perplexed that the reflections on the floor in the Hitman clips from the Switch 2 direct didn't disappear while the camera moved up, because he didn't understand how screen space reflections work.
he then postulated that if these aren't raytraced that the Devs might use "advanced screen space reflections" that "stay more static indoors"... the fuck?

his video was in my recommendeds and I was just sitting there confused, especially at the comments that all seem to think he's super competent and knowledgeable

All their early promos of people partying around Switch on a dining room table is a diversion marketing strategy. It sounds cool, so it amps people up. But reality hardly anyone will use it that way.

It's like when I first moved out into a condo. It was a nice condo with a pool, gym, theatre room, and..... a fucking 4 lane 5-pin bowling alley. The condo brochure makes it sound like the hippest funnest condo in town.

Lived there for years. The gym was used all the time, the pool ya that too (lots of people as the amenities were split between a two building complex), nobody used the theatre room from what I saw according to the schedule sheet, and you'd think the bowing alley would be the funnest thing to do. Almost nobody used it. The lights were shut off 99% of the time when I walked by with zero people in it. You'd think with a complex with two big condos with its share of different people and kids, bowling would be a big thing to keep people busy. Nope. But hey it worked on me. When I saw the bowling alley promo and saw it with my eyes, I thought I'd be doing it too. I did it once in 4 years. And I only did it that day because a bunch of friends came over, so we ordered some pizzas and did that for an hour. I realized after living there that doing bowling in a condo is lame and why bother. If I really want to bowl I'll do 10 pin at a real alley with friends or fam.

what this could mean is that Nintendo found some bugs with the VRR. similar to how Sony's first VRR compatible TVs had some major issues that needed to be patched, and in fact they didn't even support VRR out of the box and got it through a patch in the first place, also due to issues.

I assume if they found issues it'd be handshake issues due to the USB to HDMI conversion.

Gotta cut costs where they can.

Side note: the next however many years are going to be rough, as companies double down and make shit even "cheaper" than it already is, while prices skyrocket (to make up for increases in raw materials/etc.).

There was never a Switch 2 Master Race, unless you're talking about it's number 1 fan GigaBowser GigaBowser :messenger_confounded:

the overwhelming primary use of handheld mode is definitely at home (*followed by road trips in second place), I thought everyone knew this

That's something they recognized all the way back with Wii U, when they originally tried to solve this problem from the other angle. Kids and families don't game as much in front of the big stationary TV -- the concept of the living room TV anchor being the centerpiece for families is in steep decline. Kids will sit in the same room as the TV and still not dock it, because they're walking around, playing the game in the kitchen, halfway listening to some streamer on the TV while they play a different game on the tablet, etc.

I can tell you from a lot of experience with our kids and other families that handheld mode is desired because kids want to play in bed, lounging in random rooms, walking around, all the of the above. And occasionally on road trips. But the portable nature of the system has almost nothing to do with taking it out of the house and hasn't for ages, and Nintendo knows that too. There's a reason they've never even touched a concept like StreetPass again.

That makes sense tbh. I know my dad has a switch and he said he uses it in handheld mode when he's in bed sometimes and when he's on the couch watching tv and wants to game as he does.

I'll say it again. Nintendo are the most anti-consumer company in the gaming industry bar none.
That is what happens when they make products people want to buy.

Pro-consumer is something for political groups, not businesses. Businesses make the best product they can so that customers are willing to pay more for them. That is HONEST.

i rather this, than games that are free to play but had game mechanics that deliberately generate fomo and ask you for money to remove minor annoyances that were put there to make you spend money.

Give me Nintendo any day over Gatcha games.

Except Nintendo doesn't make the best product it can - they make one that maximizes their profit margins.
Do i have to drag Neo-Geo's corpse out again to make a point? Making the most expensive hardware is not the same as making the best product.

The Switch2 is worth the money. The problem is that the economy is getting bad and people are struggling. It is not Nintendo's problem that their customers are poorer due to factors outside their control. Nintendo is selling the best product that people are willing to buy. And if you didn't want to buy you wouldn't be complaining.

Nintendo is not obligated to save you money. They are still offering a luxury product at a reasonable price. The fact that people have less money than before is not caused by Nintendo.
