That's TWD's thing though. Develop a character so people like them and then kill them off.

Dunno about that. I'd say most of the deaths on this show of prominent characters are ones that were pretty unlikeable.

What I would say is a TWD trademark is when they suddenly devote time to a character that's been background fodder like Beth and Bob, then it is their time to go.

So, basically Rosita better hope she doesn't suddenly have 20 minutes of screen time during the season premiere.

new rick is so good. love his attitude and the way he delt with that guy in the opening scene. nice to see a walking dead character not catch a million different emotions, and rather just do whats needed.

Yup, new Rick is great. The car scene showed how he defends himself (well, defends 'the plan') in such a clinical way, without doing something unnecessarily risky to create drama, like tackling him on-foot - he's in a car so he ran the guy down.

Yet the end showed how new Rick heals himself - he offered a hand to anyone who wanted to leave, which is a far cry from the Rick who was adamant Tyresse & co couldn't join them.

Here is my current problem with the show. They are in a rut, because it's like the are stuck on a track.

Mid-season finale = someone dies
Real finale = someone dies

Then everything up to those finales are just build up. We are in that cycle endlessly now.

Another cycle we are in is this:

1. Group finds a "sanctuary"
2. Group at odds about whether to go. Someone yells "WE COULD BE SAFE THERE"
3. Get there, falls apart, back on the road, repeat this cycle.

I groaned at the preview last night when michone was arguing "we could be safe there". We've been down this road at least 5 times now guys.

wasn't it only a little while ago where lori died and there was another death too that happened in a regular episode and not a finale.

It's not a matter of killing or not killing people.

The show needs to find a new plot thread that's going to work. Right now, we're in a cycle of:

Sanctuary
Fall out
Road
Sanctuary
Fall Out
Road
Sanctuary

It's either time to reach the "Towns & City-States" era of post-apocalyptic worlds where there is less risk of death, or it's time to just kill a shitload of people and do a soft 'reboot'.

That and as soon as something good is about to happen to someone, it's a setup to kill them. Maggie found out about the group going to get Beth and got super excited, then Beth dies. Bob had a similar foretelling as well. Things were going really well with he and Tyreese's sister. Dale definitely did.

Best opening ever. Man... This new no billshit version of Rick is so refreshing.

I really hope that Carol is put into conflict with Rick next season and she has to take over as leader. They've really screwed their chance to explore Rick's descent into madness, tortured soul and all that. But I suspect focus groups won't allow it.

Make Maggie her Second in command and give people new roles to explore within the group.

For those who read the comic (spoilers)
I have a feeling Glenn's death on the show is going to happen on some random episode and shock the shit out of everyone). Rather than having it saved for a finale.

I gotta say, that was bullshit. They finally start developing Beth and giving her her own role, and then kill her off for....shock value?
Rendering that entire arc 100% pointless.

This i really want to happen. Don't save that shit for a finale. After i seen that in the comic i just sat there for 15 minutes like wtf they just did that. Think it was more of the way it happned to.

That was a total shit death... Stupid and pointless like most of the shit that's happened so far this season so far.

Also thanks to TWD's FB for spoiling it (before it even aired) along with Twitter trending.

Why did the kid from the hospital (I forget his name) go back to the hospital with them? That was dumb.
Every plot device in this show amounts to this dumb person did this dumb thing that made no sense. One would think a premise like perpetual zombies could lead to something more than that... but I guess not.

This show has to end with the camera zooming out to reveal the whole of the Atlanta area is a giant biodome where all the idiots of the world were sent while the functional, rational thinking people rebuilt a peaceful society around them.

how? rick and Co. gave them a chance to work in getting their friends back, and instead the cop took off after tricking that one girl and hurting her. rick did the right thing.

At first I thought that Dawn want's to join the group when she yelled wait...but then she went fully crazy cop again.

Damn you Dawn, I started to like you :/

My thoughts....

1) I lvoe the new direction of Rick being a bad ass (plain and simple)
2) I would hate for Glenn to get killed off this season
3) the preacher has to go... he is useless
4) did anybody aside from Noah come with Rick and the group?

5) I think it is time we see Michonne and Carl get a bit more screen time...
6) the symbols on the trees.... what can that possibly be?
7) would sooo find a huge lake and tie a bunch of house boats together and chill on the water.... or a cruise ship... go in and clean house and live in the harbor.

Rick just learned his lesson. Basically "no more half measures" /breaking bad

That's a mistake he will never make again. Never let anyone go, never be soft. That's how (his) people die.

Agreed.. if anything he should have been like that all along but I guess he had to learn it...
If he had not killed the guy the dude would have alreted his friends as to what was going on... and both Beth and Carol would have died.

but rick has gone through this phase before and then somebody dies or somebody talks him out of shit and reverts again
But that's when he was still conflicted about this side of him. I think his entire arc has lead him to this point where he has now accepted that this is how things have to be. That speech he gave to Carl earlier this season pretty much cements it. This is who he is now.

And it is great. He still has a human side but he isn't naive about the world any more. People say he is shane now but he really isn't. He has all the best parts of Shane minus the psychopathy.

wife was pissed about the facebook spoiler thing. TBH the whole sequence was silly so I don't think she missed much. It does suck that they axe characters once they get interesting. Season 3-4 I wouldn't have had qualms with her getting attacked while she was doing one of her singing things.

Is Morgan going to join the group sometime, or are they just going to keep showing snippets of him and then make the spinoff the Happy Morgan zombie show?

Why did Noah go back to Grady with them? As soon as I saw him shuffling around behind the group I knew this wouldn't end well.

All-in-all, decent episode. I've enjoyed the season thus far, but that ending rendered most of it pointless. I feel like none of the characters learned anything from the whole Grady arc. Anyone that had an shred of character development is now dead and Maggie suddenly remembers she had a sister...

I figure the end of the series will have a "The Road"-esque ending.

The Road Spoilers:
It takes for The Boy's father dying before he is free from the practices that he doesn't like. I could definitely see Rick becoming the main antagonist. Not in the Rick-tatorship way, but in a way where he leads the group in things that they don't want to be apart of. Carl and Rick are still the main components...or maybe I just think that because I see a lot of The Man/The Boy in them from The Road.
