rick seemed to have a card up his sleeve from the end of last season through this episode, but apparently his plan was for stuff to repeatedly magically interrupt the executioners right before they get to main characters. Part two of his plan was to have someone he hasn't seen in months appear out of nowhere with perfect timing and take the whole place down.

I'm okay with characters getting lucky and lucking their way out of bad situations, but don't act like they have some clever plan and then have it be nothing..
Oh, he did have a plan and that was that they weren't going to stick back and wait to die. Those makeshift weapons were awesome.

But...they got outsmarted and outmaneuvered by Gareth and co and the flash bangs/gas

For them it's only been a few days.

"They're gonna feel pretty stupid when they find out..."

<dramatic pause>

"...they're fucking with the wrong people."

Should have been the season final, but whatever I guess. Fun episode.

That last shot of the group, in which they all go back on the track makes me wonder how much the showrunners gonna thin the group out. Hope they don't get too crazy here or at least do it right.

I ... actually really enjoyed that premiere. That's the first time I've ever said that about this show. Sure, they wasted the entire location of Terminus in 35 minutes, but it was worth it. Full measures Rick is the best Rick.

Tyreese had better killed that motherfucker. Ugh, that creep made my skin crawl. Which was the point, so fine job by that character.

Ugh, I have a feeling the guy Tyreese DIDN'T kill (probably) will cross horrible paths with his sister, Sasha.

And then Tyreese learns some stupid lesson. Cue Butcher/Cattle line. Please don't do this.

I think he did. The issue he had was that he was having a problem killing anything. That's what the conversation he and Carol had in the very beginning was about. This problem is what allowed the situation with Judith to take place in the first place. Then being forced outside with the walkers. That was his decision coming back to haunt him. He was forced to get over his problem by going all out on the walkers with likely his bare hands and then to go after the cabin guy. I took him saying "he won't" is him saying he won't become the type or person the cabin guy saying he needs to become or will die. That didn't mean he'd let that guy live. Just he won't lose himself in the process. Having that guy live and come back to teach Ty a lesson seems redundant at this point.

As the camera pans out you can see what he did to the walkers which was just brutal. The guy was already bleeding and you hear Tyreese punching the guy over and over as the camera zooms out. Similar to when Rick stabbed the guy that almost raped Carl last season. It's one thing to show a zombie's head being bashed in. It's another to see a live human being having his face being punched to a bloody mess and him being beaten to death. I took the scene was shot in such a way to make you imagine what was happening after being shown the walkers. Something that was worse then what we saw already in this episode.

About Carol and the fireworks:
Remember that the entire area was filled with propane. The bottle rocket just had to get anywhere near for the propane to explode.

It actually sounds like a job for Mythbusters (even though they already had a propane tank episode)

what was morgan doing anyways did he wanted to clear terminus ? did rick and his group draw the X on the tree ?
I don't think Rick was doing it but it's not 100%....clear ;)

Also like Gimple said in talking dead, at first glance you can see Morgan looks a lot more sane and also if he's headed toward Terminus than that probably means he wanted to actually be with people.

Hope he finds the group.

Was that first zombie that Carol killed Andrea?

Production pouring salt on the wound. :(

You know, before seeing comparison picks, I wonder if that was her. Something about having the handcuffs and lingering camera shots, something about it felt like an "easter egg" type zombie, which the show has had a couple of (crazy woods lady from Season 4, showing back up in the Prison mid-season finale)

and that's the reason for Judith's face at the end. "She's seen stuff...thangs"

Barring the utterly amateur editing, that was exactly the kind of show I've been asking for.

Solid premiere. I hope the rest of the season can keep the bar this high.

Brilliant start and an episode, love it all.

Only part I didn't like was the terrible part were the guy on the floor got his face eaten by the zombie, looked so badly done, out of a 1980s film.

It won't. This was the first episode, I would expect the pace to slow down some. I don't think they have the budget to handle a full season of this.

I cannot imagine this season premiering higher than last season. It has to peak some time right? Because last season's numbers were absolutely insane.

This is what I'm fearing, TBH. I'll be ok if they keep the tension at this level, but this being TWD, I still expect a number of filler episodes.

The Throat Slitting is still bothering me. It was so graphic, and the sound of the blood gushing out. *shudders*

And this is a guy who watched Dexter, Sparticus, Hannibal, etc....

My grandparents owned a farm. As soon as I saw the bat I knew what was coming next.

The gushing was a bit too much, but it was still so freakishly realistic* it bothered me.

*the neat monster inside me would have removed their clothes for efficency and sanitary reasons, just in case they relaxed their sphincters and shat their pants.

Guys on talking dead said they treated it like the first Alien movie and didn't show the actors what it was going to be beforehand. The reactions to the blood were legit.

I had to turn away at those parts lol.

So is Gareth
A different take on Chris?(from The Cannibal Group)
or is he someone else in the comics?

Good episode but looked like it was made with five grand. Maybe they're saving money for an absolute fx fest of a finale.

Good first episode. Show has dragged a bit for the past couple seasons.

Rick still seems like a terrible leader. Group is ironically saved by the result of his terrible leadership in the past (exiling Carol).

Comic Spoilers:

The repeated "bat" teases with Glenn were just brutal, haha

Great episode back.

Side note, before the Morgan reveal, did anyone else think it might be (comic spoiler)
Jesus?

Very much enjoyed the episode, helped I had been marathoning the show right up until then. I believe we finally got the perfect cast, sure someone will still complain about so so but overall there are no more Andrea's and everyone is pretty damn capable at this point. I really like how Carol went from this abused woman who thought she couldn't do anything to a real damn survivor capable of taking care of herself better than most people ever would. I like how Michonne has opened up and developed and in turn how her friendship with Carol has formed. He himself has gone through some developments and not the little brat most wanted dead on the farm. Rick has gone through hell and back and these developments will definitely affect how he reacts in the future. Pretty sure he was right about "killing them all". The last time he didn't with the Governor look what happened.

Really enjoy how the show has picked up the pace and doesn't feel so dragged out.
