Wow, I know it's not Andrea but damn, the homage is real.
rick seemed to have a card up his sleeve from the end of last season through this episode, but apparently his plan was for stuff to repeatedly magically interrupt the executioners right before they get to main characters. Part two of his plan was to have someone he hasn't seen in months appear out of nowhere with perfect timing and take the whole place down.

I'm okay with characters getting lucky and lucking their way out of bad situations, but don't act like they have some clever plan and then have it be nothing..
I agree with this, especially when they were kneeling in front of the trough and Rick still claimed he had the upper hand. If it wasn't for Carol, they would all have been dead. That's fine cause I LOVE LOVE LOVE Carol but don't act like Rick is some mastermind.

Awesome opener. Next week looks like it'll be good too.

At that point his plan was to use the wood shank, but like... I guess without interruptions he was gonna let Glenn get it while he worked to get his hands free?

I don't think they ever made it seem like Rick had a legitimate plan per se, more that they were preparing for a fight. And that scene at the trough with Rick and Gareth, Rick is in don't give a fuck mode and he's not going to start shaking in his boots just cause he's tied up. He's not going down without a fight even if it is just a verbal one

That would have been a better twist. (comic spoiler)
Jesus is a much more significant character than Morgan was, Morgan ended up being a major disappointment. His appearance was just a major shocker as a call back to the beginning. Though I have a feeling TV Morgan will be more important than comic Morgan seeing as how they got Lennie James to play him.

Yeah (comic spoiler)
Comic Morgan never really got over Duane, and was more or less, a walking shell of a human being. Only thing I remember him doing, once he joined up, was sleeping with Michonne. Not really sure what else happened. Lennie James' Morgan, though...Watch out, we've got a bad ass hanging around now.

Well fuck, consider me surprised at how the premiere turned out. And I am goddamn glad this shit wasn't dragged for a whole season like that Gov garbage.

Carol too good.

Yup, I was worried we were going to be at Terminus forever again.

Maybe Carol is a reincarnated Jack Bauer (or, really, Teri Bauer, with the short haircut). Not sure any television character has caused as much death in one single episode, as she did.

-Guy on the ground not getting up and running away from the zombie in flames

Haha, I laughed when this part happened. He just kept sliding on his back instead of simply standing up and walking away.

Reminds me of that guy who got surrounded by zombies in an open field last season. It's a wonder these types of characters survived for this long in a post-apocalyptic scenario.

Oh, and I also believe White Glenn is still alive.

I don't really see any evidence to back this up. The last we saw of him Tyrese was repeatedly punching his face in while he was already down. We then cut to an outside view of the cabin with the sounds of continued punching.

So we're down to basically two outcomes:

A) Tyrese continues punching him until he is dead. He doesn't want Carol to go into the cabin and see the caved in face of a guy he killed.

B) Tyrese stops punching him after he is unconcious and decides to lie to Carol about him being dead because... why? He wants to protect this guy who just threatened to snap a baby's neck? Or he is embarrassed he wasn't able to kill the guy?

The second scenario doesn't really add up to me.

- Deadline: ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 5 Debut Shatters Records; 17.3M Watch
With a lot of red meat and explosions galore, the zombie apocalypse returned to AMC last night bigger than ever. The Season 5 debut of The Walking Dead pulled in 17.3 million total viewers on Sunday at 9 PM with 11.0 million among adults 18-49. That viewership and demo series record chews up the previous high of 16.1 million watching and 10.4 million among the 18-49s that the Season 4 premiere of the blockbuster series drew on October 13 last year.

That was about as good an episode of the show as you could possibly ask for. Really great premiere. Remember when Carol was the worst thing about this show? Seems like a long time ago now. That episode was basically 43 minutes of her being a total badass.

The only thing that pissed me off were usual Walking Dead bullshit. CGI bullet flashes and ridiculous red shirts. The scene at the start was so stupid. Here are 4 of our heroes and 3 guys that have never been seen before. I wonder who's gonna die?!?! Fuck off. What is even the point of scenes like that? It's certainly not to create any tension or worry about the protagonists so why even bother put them in danger?

Apart from that, terrific episode though

Yeah, that was one of the worse scenes of the series. Of course Glen wasn't going to die like that. Of course he was going to be saved in the last second. But it would have been better if Rick did something. Carol saving them is too coincidental, magical, and stupid. After that scene, I was thinking the episode was going to be terrible. But it recovered.

Great premiere. Is it just me or has this show gotten so much better over the years? Usually shows starts becoming long in the tooth at this point, but The Walking Dead is going the opposite direction. It had a great pilot, but Season 2 and 3 had a handful of decent episodes surrounded by needless ones. I feel like this show really found its groove in the second half of Season 4. We got seperate stories from the group, and the majority of them were interesting and developed the characters. Even the initial threat last season was something different and unique, the flu.

We have come such a long way from well zombie stories. I really hope they keep it up.

I disagree. The most interesting and/or likable characters in the series were Shane, Merle, Daryl, the governor, Hershel, and Dale. They're all gone except for Daryl. Glen was a great character in the beginning but they haven't done anything interesting with him in so long. There needs to be someone in the group who isn't a good guy. Someone that will create drama. A Shane or Merle character.

Damn good episode. Really glad they didn't waste too much time escaping Terminus and Carol...goddamn.

Also think their decision not to go back and kill the rest of the group will come back to haunt them later on, that guy isn't going to let it go if the flashbacks are anything to go by.

I wonder, did Tyrese really kill the guy in the cabin? I'm thinking he didn't, but instead of savagely beat him and left him tied up? Could be wrong though.

I had given up on this series after season 4. I hear so many good things, decide to watch the episode anyway...

I've been a TWD hater who can't stop watching, but that was a damn fine episode. I like Rick when he cannot possibly give any fucks, and badass Carol is such a massive step up from whiny child Carol. Also very happy that they're learning and didn't drag Terminus out for forever. Hopefully they don't drag out some other location for forever instead.

How are there multiple people in that thread saying "yup, identical clothes" when they're clearly not identical in any way whatsoever? Are people really this good at fooling themselves into believing things?

Seriously, what the fuck?

And tits aren't allowed on TV?

Seriously, I can't believe they showed straight up sliced necks and gushing blood. I mean it definitely added to the scene, but was not expecting it to get that realistically gory at all.

Great episode overall. Really looking forward to where this season goes.

I'm glad they moved the Terminus arc forward that fast. I was worried they'd stretch that shit out like they're infamous to do. The back story of Terminus should be interesting. Also, Carol is some sort of wizard for aiming fireworks that accurately, didn't really like that part. Rick being badass again is cool.

He confessed as much to Carol. He didn't want to, but his fists/heart had a different opinion on the matter.

Interesting list. Merle and Shane did add drama though and they are missed. They beat us over the head so much with the Governor that I am just sick to death of him and Hershel drove me nuts. It was like the old man had a halo on at all times. Even the flashbacks are irritating.

And Andrea walker is wearing the same shirt and belt, and had handcuffs on one wrist. I'm sure it's not supposed to actually be Andrea but the similarities don't seem coincidental.

That's really cool, I like when they put little stuff like this in the show without making sure you know just before.
I remember an episode in season 3 when Rick went to see Morgan and just before the episode the previously on showed him from season 1, making it really obvious that he would appear in this episode, glad that wasn't the case here.

The walker which Carol used to camouflage herself as one of the dead was in fact...Andrea...so that means that she smeared Andrea all over her face and body and becomes Andrea.

Carol = Andrea now

I know that she isn't Andrea

Since nobody is bringing it up.

There was recent news that Kevin Durand was approached to play a mayor role in the series. Now, in the premiere the guy that was beat up by Tyrone looks extremely like Kevin Durand (can't be a lookalike right?). Also at the ending part (THEN - flashback scene) some guy that sounds and looks like Kevin Durand is putting these current leaders of Termine in a traincar(?). It seems to me he is banished (since that scene was a flashback) and Tyrone found him and in the end, didn't kill him (we never saw him die). Also, the 2 roles haven't been listed in the credits. Please help me out here.

Carol, fuck yeah.

Still some daft moments but overall really good.

Are the new cannibal owners a series return or just a shits on them now, see ya?

EDIT - The ending was the past, they did get out the trailer and take over.

What? None of these people looked alike and none of them looked like Kevin Durand.

Were they wearing identical clothes too?

I am referring to the guy in the room with Tyrese. Look closely. And I am referring to the guy I just told you about in the ending scene where he moved the leaders in the traincar. It's in my post. The ending was labelled as "Then", so it seemed like a flashback. It's him, but just uncredited.

I hope this is true. I'm a huge fan of Durand. He's imposing as fuck and can play a mean villain with ease.

He's probably the best part of The Strain, tbh.
