Yeah, it's gaudy compared to classic Advance Wars, especially in close, but you can zoom out and turn the camera and it looks more like Advance Wars does. That trailer doesn't do it very many favors as to what the game is actually like.Blizzard said:... D: It's tempting, though the graphics look kinda busy. Reviews are also mediocre! Java and Joe Molotov, you guys own it, what do you think?
that's too bad :[Toma said:Last page:
It doesnt need a controller. It doesnt have any precision based platforming, its more a puzzle game. Mouse is very useful if you do need to position yourself precisely.I <3 Memes said:How does Toki Tori play with kb/mouse? Or does it really need a controller to be played properly?

One complaint I remember hearing is that people can see you from VERY far away, even if you're peeking through a hole in a fence or something. The Steam store page actually has a quote that mentions this as a realistic/positive feature.Tokubetsu said:Any reason why I SHOULDN'T get Sniper: Ghost Warrior?
Personally, I'm waiting for it to be cheaper, based on the demo the enemies have instant laser vision from miles away if you alert them (and they'll instantly kill you from that far as well no matter what) despite being seemingly well hidden, but apparently the patches addressed this and other issues. It does seem like it could be a solid sniping game if the issues were indeed fixed.Tokubetsu said:Any reason why I SHOULDN'T get Sniper: Ghost Warrior?
Have you ever tried Sniper Elite? 85% off actually seems like a pretty decent price. I'd like to get other positive impressions before I recommend it TOO much though, since I haven't played very far through the campaign. at the very least the metacritic score is over 70, compared to 50-something for ghost warrior.benjipwns said:Personally, I'm waiting for it to be cheaper, based on the demo the enemies have instant laser vision from miles away if you alert them (and they'll instantly kill you from that far as well), but apparently the patches addressed this and other issues. I was expecting it to be like $4-5 though, to be honest.

Yeah, I've got it on Steam and had played it way back before. If people want a sniping game, I think it's easily one of the better ones out there and I'd pick it up before spending five times as much on Ghost Warrior unless the graphics or non-WW2 aspect is that important. It's not as linear and more realistic than Ghost Warrior from what I played of Ghost Warrior.Blizzard said:Have you ever tried Sniper Elite? 85% off actually seems like a pretty decent price. What should I expect here? Where does it sit on the tactical shooter scale between Gears and say, the first Ghost Recon?
Yeah, it is a very good game. Its not "hard" strategy, but it does have a strategic bent all its own once you start paying attention to movement speeds and timing. Mostly though its just kind of addictively fun.Truespeed said:I'm on the fence on Swords & Soldiers. Sucks that I can't play a PC demo before I buy. Stylistically, it reminds me of Fat Princess. It's received great reviews, though.
echoshifting said:Interesting...thanks for your impressions. I might buy this on the last day. I remember looking it over when it first came out but it didn't do too well in reviews, so I forgot about it (back when I weighed review scores heavily in my purchasing decisions). I'm surprised to hear it holds up at all.
Hard to go wrong for a buck but I don't need another game I won't play clogging up the works. I love city builders, though, so that doesn't seem like it will be the case here. Besides, it's not like AAA city builders are falling out of the sky.

You pick up VVVVVV yet?Delightful Oonsk said:Hey GAF, any recommendations on a Mac-compatible game that primarily uses the keyboard? Got a Macbook Air and am looking for something I can pick up and play without having to grab a mouse or anything. Some pretty good deals on Mac games but I'm not sure what to get.
echoshifting said:High praise! This is my fave style of city builder (Impressions-style); you picked the perfect thing to say to convince me to snag it.
Toma said:Mind you I didnt say its better than Caesar 3. But really.. I wish they would have sold at least a few copies of CivCity: Rome to give it a bit more modern polish and a better engine for bigger fields. It could be really, really great Hopefully, this kind of game didnt die completely with it.
echoshifting said:I'm assuming you've already played the other 2D entries that followed in that series, because if you haven't you really should. Zeus (with Poseidon expansion) is, to me, the best of the Impressions-style city builders. They're all great, though.
I replay all of these games regularly; I'd double dip on each and every one in a heartbeat. I actually did a lot of beta testing on these way back in the day when I actually did that sort of thing; what a great development team. Still depresses me that we will probably never see another proper entry in this franchise/style. Even Tilted Mill is basically gone.

lol okay! No worries. I'm downloading it now. Going to check it out once its done.Toma said:Nah >_< Keep it.

It looks interesting and it doesn't take much for me to buy a $1 game... hopefully I will be spreading the word once I get to playing it.in a year/never
