2025 | Donkey Kong Bananza Direct (18th June) (2pm UK // 6am PT // 9am ET)

Between the arcadey character redesign and the heavy use of kid Pauline, it really feels like Nintendo is reclaiming the Kong. But I do like that the Rare stuff is still there as well, like the other Kongs and several music tracks.

Looks like Cranky being the original DK has been retconned though. Unless there's some weird time loop shenanigans going on, but it'll probably be a more straightforward Yoshi's Island style backstory thing.
No, it absolutely has never been. Have you ever played a DK game?
Literally the first thing we see DK do is wreck a construction site, then start hurling barrels around, causing all sorts of mayhem.

Bruh, Mario Odyssey didn't have lives. It took coins off you if you "died". And in regards to Mario 64; I don't think that game is hard because of the platforming, I think it's hard because 99% of the time you're fighting with the camera and controls. That's not a problem in odyssey, which is probably why it's easier. It's just feels better and natural.

I played it years ago so i forgot, but ur correct my bad. Ya it took off 10 coins i believe if you died and since your always collecting coins then you essentially have permanent lives because you're never going to be at 0 coins when u die.

Sure, but that's really not the same. And I'm mainly talking about games where you play as him. This is incredibly far removed from those.

It's possible you just don't like Nintendo games... and that's okay. Not sure what else you expect from a first party Nintendo game. This is their art style.
Oh I do! Huge Nintendo fan since the NES era. I just can't stand sloppy art and something that feels unfinished.
I will add that I was wrong about Metroid Dread. I did not like that at all from what we were shown before the relase. Ended up loving it!

I used to be a huge nintendo guy back in the n64/gamecube days 'love the nes and snes as well' but nowadays i just look at some of their games and say to myself 'What am i not seeing here that everyone else is seeing'.

This game looks terrible artistically and i absolutely hate the dark and saturated color palette they're going with, the punch mechanics look like a gimmick that will get old insanely fast because pounding the environment over and over and over can only be entertaining for so long and the game looks like it's going to be braindead easy just like mario odyssey was. Nintendo games used to have challenge in them and they used to do things that felt unique/amazing. I look at this game and i just feel myself getting bored playing it within 2 hrs if i sat down and tried it. Maybe that's just me though.

Yeah... it's just you.

All the "smashing things will wear off" peoples

What Is Wrong With You Season 4 GIF by The Office

Steamworld dig was basically crack. Digging, smashing, building. How is this not the best fucking thing to happen to a 3D world platformer.
Steamworld is super addictive… And this looks like a 3D Steamworld + 3D and 2D platforming + a tons of more things… Crazy game incoming. BTW the Music is insane.

Wait a minute! Bananza looks like it's Odyssey prequel. Pauline gets back to her world and creates New Donk City?
New Donk City boxes can be seen in the video, so it's already a place.

Not sure why but I seem to be the only one to assume Pauline got transformed into a kid when she got sealed in the rock and will get her age and memories back when she gets to the core.

They can't keep getting away with their complete disregard for gorillore!

it could also be that this isn't the real Pauline... after all, why is she seemingly a small rock creature?

what if it's some sort of alien that came into contact with Pauline when she was a kid, and then somehow "imprinted" on her and took her form and maybe even her personality 🧐🧐🧐

Sounds like it's time for a new hobby.

I mean, Mario never threw his hat to possess enemies either. It's fine for new games to have new ideas, and it's not like it's out-of-character for DK to smash through things. I recall tons of destruction in DKC Returns and Tropical Freeze as well.

I never was a huge DK fan, but I'm officially sold after watching that. It looks like a lot of fun, and I think adding in little Pauline really helps from a theme perspective. Adding her in to have cool vocal music, and to serve as a hype man for DK's actions was a great decision.

Donkey Kong lore? Come on now.

So glad there's a real game here! Pretty sure I'll be getting it. And as a dad to a little girl, this is hitting my relatables.

So what the heck was with them hiding Pauline behind the odd rock thing until now? They put a lot of work into concealing that Pauline is in the game, but… why?

Well, that was an addition on top of pretty traditional 3D Mario gameplay. This seems to have very different base gameplay from any previous DK game, it's not primarily a platformer anymore.

LoL 😂 . Yo can even make platforms here… What are you talking about?

I can make platforms in No Man's Sky, that doesn't make it a platformer. Just look at the gameplay shown, it's much more about breaking stuff apart and digging through the terrain than it is about platforming on stuff.

Been long since I played that, but I'm pretty sure it was a traditional platformer, just controlled with bongos? I don't think it had DK smashing through the terrain.
Smashing through the terrian is a new feature but what's the problem?

Don't we want games with new features and try different things?

This is a 100% platform game with the addition of digging. Even have 2D platform section…

Ha!! DK won't will GOTY no matter what. It will likely be good, but this type of game won't win, Never does.

You said 'I don't see anything contending with it'..............How? You know the score?

Astrobot?

I mean I understand Clair obscur will likely win because it's a feel good story, indie dev against all odds, little teary moment at game awards etc, and likely to remain my GOTY too,

But who gives a shit? This can also be platformer of the gen without GOTY committee Doritos pope approval

What I like most about Nintendo's games is I can play them and get a flash back to what it was like playing games in my pre-teen/teen years. Grabbing the wooden sword (after dying 5 times) in LoZ, the curtain opening of SMB3, the thunder storm in LTTP, Ridley snatching up the baby Metroid; these are solid points in time for me...getting to be able to glimpse/have the feeling again, however fleeting, is invaluable to me.

Some people say Nintendo games are for kids...for me Nintendo games let me BE a kid again.

MSRP: incalculable

Yeah don't know what RoadHazard is on but he be bananas. It's a platformer with some new ideas. What the heck they expect Nintendo to do, just re-release DKC from the 90s over and over again? God forbid they try something creative and fresh.

Incredible, this game looks massive... 100 hour timesink incoming.

Maybe Nintendo were sly and knew what they were doing separating Mario Kart World and Bananza - because this looks like the real higher value game and an actual premium launch title.

Can't wait!

Not sold in this yet, the colour palette is gawd awful from what ive seen so far.

Lets see what they got.
The game looks AMAZING (gameplay), but yeah that detail is keeping me from deciding... I'm gonna wait until we're close to or after release for deciding

Not sure this game is for me. Some of it looks fun but I really don't care about collecting stuff in games.

Also, why does Pauline have an adult voice as a child?
