30 FPS is trending on Twitter and it’s made me happy.

So I just jumped on Twitter which I try not to do too often and 30fps is trending! I'm actually in shock but so happy to see it. Anyone with a level head knows these consoles can deliver 60 FPS and I think it's great that 60 FPS is kind of demanded this generation. I never expected it to trend on a platform like Twitter tho.

so basically, what do people think? Are you like me and think we should continue to demand 60 FPS modes and give players the choice to play how they want?

im all for developers showing off their games whichever way they want but really hope 60 FPS is here to stay for the entire generation. Plus we need it for VRR and these high end TVs.

so there is a definite requirement for us to reap The full benefits of the best tech.

bring on the 60 FPS at lower res and features and im all over it!

Fuck 30 , as soon as you go 60 there is no going back period .
The cinematic feel , the 30 preference it's all bs the only time 30 is justified is when the resolution or graphics difference between them is too big like a 1080p 60 fps games looks like crap on a big 65+ inch tv

Why is 30fps trending?
Like anything on twitter a mixture of fanboys being idiots and also honest feedback on horizon demo where people are so used to 60 fps now it seems people can really notice 30fps in the trailer (it's obvious and stands out to me also) and want 60 fps to stay plus be an option in Horizon forbidden West.

Let people play how they want to, and I really hope sonys incredible first party studios really put effort into delivering a solid 60 fps mode in all future games.

I doubt 60 FPS will keep happening going into the generation. It's the same every generation and we always end up at 30. Most times barely reaching it

options would be nice.

It's all subjective. I'm just glad that we're starting to see choices so we don't have to witness anymore "adults" having verbal slap fights over it.

Choose what you want and prefer and move on. 🤷‍♂️

30fps driveclub looked smoof as fuck.
It's ok with correct use of motionblur.
and genre..

i still prefer locked 120 Obviously
But 30 for console makes sense..
You can't expect your dirt eating peasant-box. Do locked on all games and give next gen visuals.

Ah makes sense, sometimes it's really hard to figure out why something is trending.

Anyway, I prefer 60 or higher fps but I'm not going to shun a game if it can lock 30 I'll just be bitter about it.

60 fps is the most optimal framerate for games: much smoother than 30, faster response, but not too demanding as to greatly degrade graphical fidelity, and we are used to 60 from watching TV.

More then 60, like 120, 144 etc. is better, but its not as noticeable as going from 30 to 60, and we start to get diminishing returns: a great deal more performance required for a small perceptual quality increase. The same applies to very high resolution.

For the PS5 generation the majority of games should target 1440p60 or even 1080p60 with some form of reconstruction.
In VR it is a different story, but for flat gaming that's enough.

So I just jumped on Twitter

60fps will never be standard on consoles. After a while devs will always try to push better and better graphics and you have to do it with the expense of fps and resolution. That will continue to happen on PS6/PS7 and so on.

That just means whoever developed the 30fps game didn't understand how to make it feel smooth enough. With Mario/Metroid and most PS4-era Sony games(aside from Bloodborne), they feel smooth enough so that it doesn't matter.

I think they'll keep giving you 60 as an option untill they can't anymore and then they'll release Pro consoles for those that want 60fps and 4K in all games. 60fps will be tough on base consoles in the future as devs push visual boundaries. I'm all for 60 as an option, even if that means we get 1080p60 upscaled from 720p.

I bought Watch Dogs: Legion (I loved WD2), but I've only played about an hour or so of it. I won't play it at 30fps and won't touch it until the 60fps patch hits next month.

If Horizon is really only 30fps I might not play it.

For certain games I couldn't give a shit whether it's 30fps or 60fps as long as there are no frame-pacing issues. Once your eyes have adjusted it's fine.

Obviously 60fps in all circumstances would be better but it's not realistic. Even on PC I'll play certain things at 30fps (A plague tale for example) because the extra eye candy adds more to the experience than more frames will. But for iracing I need 120fps (which isn't difficult to achieve).

It absolutely doesn't , try playing horizon 4 on a series x and then go back to driveclubs 30 ,
This motionblur and genre thing is plain bs 120>60>>>>30

yes makes sense but

We will end up with 3 Xbox ( S X and pro) and 2 PS (normal and pro)

5 consoles that each would need optimizing. Doesn't sound fun for any developer.

I'll buy a console(playstation) when 60fps becomes standard. 30FPS is simply unplayable for me. Once you go 75+ it's hard to return to even 60, let alone 30.

So are we going to pretend we didn't enjoy Forza Horizon 2 and 3 on Xbox One now?
I switched to PC as a result of 30fps cap on consoles. I did enjoy PGR4 on 360 at 30fps, but back then I was still a 30fps peasant lol. I still don't mind playing some console games at 30fps if I have no choice, but racing and shooting games are out of the question as they give me headache.

When there is no other option you have to roll with it sometimes. It's not even about not knowing better, in arcade racers a smooth 30fps with the eye candy cranked can get the job done and we've seen that on many occasions.

NOPE

i played plenty of horizon on 120
driveclub is the ONE game that is 30fps when i say it's fine.
NFS heat is meh tho

30fps is king if you want the most cutting edge graphics. I'll gladly take 30fps as long as there's some new tech and effects that come with it. I love max graphical fidelity and I'm not talking about resolution.

how about the devs do what they want since you know... well.. they are the ones creating the game? its a lose lose situation, you give 60 on some titles and people will gripe about the graphics and vice versa. Best case is do what sony first party have done thus far and give various options on how to play.

unfortunately idiots have no patience and lack critical thinking skills, cannot connect the dots... too hard

Developers should simply decide what frame rate is best for their games. It isn't rocket science.

The whole 60 FPS vs 30 FPS has become a matter of "faction" pretty much like the console war, and as such is mostly irrational.

nah, 30 fps it's cool if well timed and synched.
There is no novelty in 60 fps, it has made me stop playing and replaying 0 games.

Some games gain a lot from higher refresh rates and some barely do, why lower the stick for all of them? it's a design choice even when targeting PC specs and not just consoles.

More and more "casual" console gamers are discovering 30fps being a pile of shit.
Anecdote, my console friends have been playing gears 5 on xsx for months now, but recently we played some WWZ:
"uhh, hmmm, this feels a bit weird....what's the framerate of this game?
"..30"
"hmmm, it's really different from gears, kinda slow/choppy."
Back to gears:
"jesus christ man, such a world of difference between this and the other game...man"
"...yup"

30 FPS in DriveClub was a tragedy but everyone forgives it because of Sony blinders making them want to believe it's the best racer ever. But the game is painful to play when switching to it after playing a proper 60 FPS racer. Blur doesn't help that. There are games that should be 60 FPS minimum, no matter what. Shooters, racers and fighters for sure.

30 fps means better graphics..its simple..the more frames per second the more demand on the hardware..

if they want 60fps the developer has to go in with that in mind so they can optimize appropriately to reach the target...but if they want the best visuals possible 30 fps is the best route...

it depends on what they want to achieve with their game. .obviously we have seen many 60 fps games so far this gen, but thats because they are almost entirely cross gen games...
the hope is that they have an optional 60fps mode with toned down graphics for those that really want that fluidity, so far thats been the case.

just think though, if 60fps was the baseline you would still be blown away by graphics as tech got better but you would also get silky smooth frame rate. There would just be a small window where the jump may not look as big between a 30 FPS generation and a 60 one. Plus hopefully advancements in rendering and resolution tricks like dlss would help facilitate.
