30 FPS is trending on Twitter and it’s made me happy.

We?

It's a market that operates on selling "graphics" as it's main attraction unless it's a competitive setting and it's been like that for some time now but as long as the software sells it will mostly fall on deaf ears , the most we can hope for are dlss type workarounds That free up resources and thankfully that's all to come.

This is dumb logic, because if they design it for 60 fps it means it will always be a 60 fps game that got fidelity cut. U can't just double the framerate when your cpu cores are maxed out etc at 30 fps. The game will never be using the full hardware like it would with 30 fps.

The only way to get 30 fps to 60 fps, is to make a box that is far faster and sell it as a pro model so the base PS5 is the target for 30 fps, and the 60 fps people can move to there.

However that will also create issue's because that means they will artificially cut down on hardware on the base PS5 box in order to hit those targets on the premium model. Because cpu cores don't become magically twice the performance.

But then there is another discussion also. which is resolution. The whole focus on 4k is also what kills a ton of performance on those boxes that could be spend for more shit on the screen.

The best solution to get the most out of things would be 720p super resolution towards 1080p and 30 fps. But yea good luck trying to sell that.
Hey man, I'm just listening to what people who actually make games are talking about:

It would be great if one day our consoles were strong enough to be able to push advancements while maintaining 60fps, but for now that's not the case since the consoles are already underpowered.

Evan hill gets it. That dude in that video does not.

60 fps makes controlling things feeling more responsive and motion looks more fluid, and things in motion clearer (honestly the motion clarity base line should be drawn at 120fps minimum), that is the whole reason why games, you play and control, should have minimum 60 fps.
Lol no the while reason i play games is to experience things like half life, uncharted 2, bioshock, witcher 3 etc for the first time, ambitious titles trying to make me feel something, and trying to take the medium to a different level, frame rate is the last thing i think about, its nice sure, but not the foundation of why i game.

A good game is a good game. You wont see the advancements you want to see when asking for 4k 60

30fps games are lazy and show that the devs only care about putting something shiny out. The core gameplay matters the most and you need 60fps+ for that.

Graphics over gameplay is not a positive thing for an interactive medium like video games.
Its isnt just graphics though, its processing aswell. Ai, physics, npc count etc

Things that impact the overall experience in terms of pushing things to another level...60 fps in those games trying to do that, isnt more important than that achievment for me

I will pretty much always choose 60 fps even if it means worse graphics. I don't really care if they focus on 30 FPS to make the graphics look amazing for trailers, as long as they give me the option for 60.

Yeah but even when we have the extra power, won't that extra power still be used to do more things?

Say you have a backpack. It's a great backpack, except it's kinda small and you've run out of room. You've stuffed as much as you can, but you just can't hold any more items. So you go to the store and you get a bigger backpack. It holds all your items EASILY with ROOM TO SPARE. So, you start putting more stuff in it and before you know it... it's full again. Hmmm. Your once huge backpack is now not enough anymore.

So in theory, no matter how big your backpack gets, you can still fill it up with stuff.

Then they're the first people who cry "DOWNGRADE!!! Oh my goodness, my game doesn't look like the trailer, it's downgraded!!! Waaaah"

Yeah exactly. Do we want another generation of static worlds and static lighting? Let's get some actual next gen games, none of this cross-gen weak-ass crap.

I tried playing Spider-Man again today at 30fps and even though it is as good as 30fps gets frame pacing wise I just couldn't bear it. It used to be the case that I'd adjust to 30fps after 15-20min but I played about an hour and it felt as horrible at the end as it did at the start.

I think if there are 30fps only games again this gen I'll be skipping them until there is a console refresh or PC port.

You didn't read or understand what I wrote, I never talked about the reason why to play games, I talked about the reason why they should be 60 fps, it's because the controls are more responsive, animations feel smoother and the image have greater clarity in motion.

sorry my dyslexia read this specific sentence as such:

awkward sentence arrangement so my brain switched it around to make more sense lol

either way...the argument still stands that the concessions made to achieve 60fps are potentially more important than the 60fps itself, depending on what the title is trying to achieve.

it really comes down to can you experience this game at 30 fps? can you get an overall complete idea of what the game is at 30 fps? if so, then if it's an ambitious title trying to push boundries, I'll take it's ambitions over the 60fps.

if a game is at 60fps...then I know it isn't pushing things as far as it could...

This is all down to personal values. I'm honestly more impressed with good looking 60fps titles knowing the developers have to be even more of wizards than what you can get away with at 30 of concurrent games. 60 fps should be the base line and all impressive stuff should be built on that IMHO. You could say that resorting to 30 fps on consoles is in a way like cheating to get ahead by one or half a hardware generation in visuals compared to 60 fps but I rather wait for a proper 60 fps version before playing.

Fuck 30 , as soon as you go 60 there is no going back period .
The cinematic feel , the 30 preference it's all bs the only time 30 is justified is when the resolution or graphics difference between them is too big like a 1080p 60 fps games looks like crap on a big 65+ inch tv
The cinematic feel is not BS.

30fps only looks bad if you are constantly playing 60fps game and switching back and forth frequently.

30fps looks great after watching 24fps content like films or tv shows and resembles them much more than 60fps.

Fuck 30 FPS forever. I hate it. If I had my way, even movies would be 60 or higher.

Even 60 isn't enough for me on my laptops and phones. I understand the need for lower FPS on intensive games, but 30 FPS is just a poor experience for something you constantly interact with.
