80s style synth-pop/electro synth/cyberpunk music

^Will definitely check that out.

So hey, I was thinking about...what are some newer movies that feature this style of music?

Off the top of my head I can only think of 2 (maybe 3?)

The Guest - awesome movie
Turbo Kid - I still like a bit of finishing this but it seems ok, soundtrack is fantastic obviously
It Follows - sort of has that sound sometime? More of a John Carpenter Halloween style but great none the less.

If not for Turbo Kid, The Guest and It Follows would be a tie for best soundtracks of 2015 for me.

Anyone know of anymore?

Drive is the obvious one. But I'd put in a good word for Manborg, made by the Astron 6 team and really captures the vibe. They filmed the whole thing to look like a 3DO / Playstation cut scene and it shows in a good way.

EDIT: Oh hey whaddya know, the soundtrack is on Bandcamp, hah.

There's a few, obviously anything made in the 80's is full of GOLD.
I mean, check out No Man's Land for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yipA4cVmFVE

But from more recent ones,

You're Next: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFuivL-ewW4

& sort of:
(Tron Legacy)
(Oblivion)

I stayed up till 4 am listening to synth love affair comp.
Absolutely amazing compilation with all of the best names in dream/love synth. Missing Tommy '86 though, even though he has a more space/disco sound.
Buy it!

I just have the first song on repeat. Who's that guy? Never heard of him. Such a cool tune that evokes Blade Runner.

Dunno how I could forget about Drive. The blu ray menu if I call from Only God Forgives also had the sound, I've yet to watch the movie though ended up passin out a few minutes in.

You're Next is from the director of The Guest, I have both but didn't recall You're Next having it so I'll have to watch that again.

Looks like I got a few movies to check out based on you guys' suggestions.

Listened to my copy of Power Gloves EP2 today. It sounds fucking glorious. Flipped the record when I finished and played it again. Forgot how much better it is than EP1.

Has anyone heard this? Been on repeat since yesterday. Reminds me so much of Goblin! A different, yet equally awesome effort from 20Six Hundred compared to the previous albums.

At first glance, I thought you were out of your mind, this has all the hallmark synths of John Carpenter worshipers, but eventually each song does add some elements of Goblin (live instrumentation, some prog rock bits)

^^ Good find, some great tracks in there.

Found a few more worth mentioning.

This is pretty damn good. Great industrial touch to a few tracks. This is the first EP in a trilogy. CRYSEHD - EP1

Maxthor - Black Fire EP has more of an 80's pop vibe to it. If you liked Stan Bush's "Thunder in Your Heart" at the beginning of Turbo Kid, you might enjoy this. It's also currently name your price.

And for a darker, slower soundtrack feel: Werkstatt Recordings - 230. EUROPAWEITE AUSSICHTEN - Purgatory

Purgatory is a great find, thank you for sharing.

This thread is basically pumping life blood into me while I write a sci-fi horror film hahaha, thank you all good curators!

Do we know why Carpenter Brut's music seems about 25% louder than all other Synthwave?

I could also say the same about Gost actually. It is jarring and sometimes slightly painful when a CB song comes up and I'm not ready for it.

Do I need to adjust the volume of CB songs? Or lower the Preamp or something in the Equalizer to normalize these songs to the rest of my library without using Sound Check or anything like that?

I used replaygain to normalize the volume for carpenter brut, gost and perturbator. They're still slightly louder than everything else in my library, but much more manageable. Replaygain is good because it doesn't affect the sound quality and bit depth.

Just saw that "Turbo Kid" is on Netflix and I recall seeing it posted in this thread so I started it up a few minutes ago. Lo and behold the first song in the film is "Thunder in your Heart" from the so awesome 80's BMX movie "Rad". It's a remake of the song but it was still so awesome to hear that after all these years.

TEEEL released a new album this week, and it's only a buck! Well worth it, great stuff.

Ahh man I knew I recognized that song from somewhere. Haven't seen Rad since it came out, probably time for a re-watch.

The Carpenter Brut Trilogy repressings have shipped. Arrived home from work today to find mine. Wasn't expecting them to ship until late next week

If you don't mind me asking, do you live in Europe? Trying to figure out when to expect mine. The last three packages shipped to me were stolen off my doorstep. I'm really nervous these fuckers are going to get my Trilogy.

Ya know, by all rights, I should like/love Dance With The Dead. I don't, the ingredients are all there, but it's missing...something.The only bands/artists I've really gotten into are Perturbator, GosT, Gunship, 23rd Underpass and Carpenter Brut has some good stuff too. I listen to pretty much everything that gets posted in this thread too, thanks to everyone who keeps posting the stuff.
