80s style synth-pop/electro synth/cyberpunk music

Do you think the guitars should be a bit higher in the mix? Seems that way to me.Either way, enjoying this a lot. Didn't grab me the same way Out of Body and Near Dark did, but it's still a pretty solid album!

If you don't mind me asking, do you live in Europe? Trying to figure out when to expect mine. The last three packages shipped to me were stolen off my doorstep. I'm really nervous these fuckers are going to get my Trilogy.

Yeah I'm in the UK. I'm sure they were aiming to ship around the 14th of this month so I was caught off guard when it came today. No shipping confirmation either so I have no idea when it was sent

The guitars were screaming beautifully loud on 'Quietly Into the Night', but I did notice they weren't as pronounced on other tracks. Synths are definitely at MAX.

Of all the Dance With The Dead albums, I only like Into the Abyss. Yet I still buy their albums, including this new one.

Yeah, The Shape is a fantastic album. Perfect length and pace for me. There's one track I don't much care for (I forget the title) but as a whole, it is a great release. Really like 'Her Ghost' a lot. And like I said before, the sorrowful female vocals here and there give tracks a different flavor, one that I like a lot. Wouldn't mind more of that on their next album.

I love all their albums a lot but here's my ranking:

Out Of Body
The Shape
Near Dark
Send The Signal
Into The Abyss

Favorite songs so far are Diabolic and Watching You. I was hoping for a few more songs after over a year, but I'm content.

Out of Body

Near Dark
The Shape
Into the Abyss
Send The Signal

Her Ghost, Diabolic, and Adrift are my favourites from the new album. Sunset is still the best DWTD track, closely followed by Robeast.

Am I just an idiot or is there no way to adjust the volume on bandcamp sites? Something that's bugged me for years.

There's an addon for Chrome to have volume adjuster for the site. It's what I use since I go back and forth between different sites and don't want to always adjust the volume.

Ya know, by all rights, I should like/love Dance With The Dead. I don't, the ingredients are all there, but it's missing...something.The only bands/artists I've really gotten into are Perturbator, GosT, Gunship, 23rd Underpass and Carpenter Brut has some good stuff too. I listen to pretty much everything that gets posted in this thread too, thanks to everyone who keeps posting the stuff.

You don't like Makeup and Vanity Set?

Since 88:88 https://makeupandvanityset.bandcamp.com/album/88-88 everything released is pretty good.

I just listened to that whole album and...not really :/ I mean, it does sound nice and seems put together well enough. If I heard this playing in the background, I wouldn't be upset about it. Doesn't feel like something I could actively listen to though and be able to get into. It's a nice sound, but just kinda...there. If you know what I mean? I appreciate you posting the album :)

I've been making some of my own music of this style. I'd like to share it but I'm not really sure if that's what this topic is for. Don't want to run foul of the self-promotion bit in the TOS either. Can someone advise?

Either way, I'm starting to really enjoy this sound/genre after being inspired by a Shadowrun group I watched play on youtube.

Going to subscribe to the topic for some later listening!

Makeup and Vanity Set is more focused on ambient instrumentals but their occasional flirting with vocals is in the same league as Gunship:

Hand In Hand
Homecoming
Remember

It's even better than Gunship.

I'm not the biggest fan of chiptune and more aggressive synths, which is why I kinda related to your post, hence my Makeup and Vanity set recommendation. Maybe the appreciation grows with time eheh. If you like vocals check the tracks xtrasauce posted.

Makeup and Vanity Set has some pretty amazing vocal tracks. Senses+Dynamics isn't often mentioned, but it gives me chills every time I listen. Wilderness is such a great album.

I've had Hand in Hand stuck in my head all damn day. I wouldn't mind it so much, but the texture/lyrics of it is kind of...morose? Still a good album though.

feel free to post away :) we will try to be gentle!

The new DWTD album is bonkers, as usual.

Oh, by the way: their full digital discography is 20% off on Bandcamp.

Everything they released so far for 30 quids.

Go get it!

Oh no, chiptune stuff is not for me at all. Not a fan, at all. I do like aggressive synth though, like Perturbator and GosT, Carpenter Brut does it sometimes too. I guess it's because I am first and foremost a fan of Metal music. The Makeup and Vanity I guess is too...subdued for me? I can see why you'd dig it though. A lot of the other bigger names in this scene don't do much for me either like Dan Terminus, Mitch Murder, and the like... I'll keep listening to things posted here anyway :)

I am jus tnow discovering Dance with the Dead and its a game changer. Sooooooo good.

What does everyone think is their best album?

Out of Body - really strong debut, and it's still the best representation of their core sound and spirit.

Into the Abyss - bite sized with a few catchy riffs, but doesn't quite go anywhere.

Near Dark - a real power tour. Impressive for the sheer energy it contains, but the tracks are samey across the album, to me.

Send the Signal - Some god damned addictive riffs. Not of This Earth is probably my favorite DWTD track. If it were a fuller album it would be my favorite.

The Shape - the most like Out of Body with more variety than the intervening albums. It feels just a tad short by one or two tracks.

To me personally, it's a toss-up between Out of Body and Send the Signal. I have to listen to the new one a few more times though.

Actually having listened to Into the Abyss twice that EP is really good as well. Certainly feels like it has a bit more of a distinct identity to it, especially with the intro and outro.

I like it way more than Send the Signal. Moon Runner, Battle and Odyssey are killer tracks.

Pretty sweet, followed. Looking forward to hearing the whole thing.

I'm hoping we don't have to wait a full year for another, but they seem to be doing more shows nowadays. I guess as an artist's discography grows (assuming it's successful), there is less of a necessity to become known because you've now developed a dedicated fanbase.

Alright, well here are some four I made. Ordered oldest to newest, so maybe you can hear some evolution in sound.

Astral Wing
Made as a 'theme' of a shadowrun character, a bird shaman or something like that.

Circuits and Meat
Another shadowrun character theme, this time a 'sugoi' hacker character. if you get my meaning.

Lagrange Point Station
This one was for fun. This one is my personal favourite of my neo80s sounds.

Pass the Exosphere
Another one for fun
