just tried it with PSSR, it looks good, but I can't tell them apart.

edit: It does look a bit sharper with PSSR, i don't see the usual artifacts with PSSR, so it looks to be a good implementation it looks like.

What graphics mode are you using? I'll have to try this tonight.

Can you take the day off work to compare every mode for every version of the game pre and post patch and upload all the videos in 4k and clearly explain it all in the first minute of the videos and then stop talking so we can hear the game audio and then not monetize any of it so I don't see any ads?

Preach.

Shit or get off the pot.

Nice half-baked update

Your horse only goes half speed when you let it follow the road. You can't gallop.

Too late, already got bored of the game.

Why the fuck wasn't the horse thing available at launch?

Edit: lol and they can't even get it right :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

i cant tell the difference on balanced mode on pro with pssr and i put. in 50+ hrs already, how about you guys?
yeah it's not a major difference, i think it's more for pixel peeping from Digital Foundry and not something clearly as visible. I'm assuming it will be turned ON by default on new games so that's their preference I assume

It depends what they did. If you cannot tell the difference and they lowered the base resolution but added PSSR+Reflections, then PSSR's job is done. You keep the same IQ and performance, but you get RT reflections.
Won't pssr help with performance, especially for Balanced mode with the added rt specular whatever it is?
It will if they lowered the internal resolution, yes.

But isn't the addition of RT reflections in balanced mode independent of PSSR? That is, are RT reflections also present when using TAAU?

PSSR is a toggle. I want to understand why TAAU is still offered as an option if PSSR is supposed to be objectively better. Perhaps the frame rate is more stable with TAAU?

Any impressions of what the unlocked frame rate is like in Hideout? I suppose it's an option that can be turned on or off?

Anyone actually jumped into the game on the Pro yet? I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the PSSR implementation specifically in the performance mode.

Just a few minutes, but I'm seeing noticeable improvement to performance with this patch. Stuttery frame rate is gone, thankfully. I'll play more tonight.

It's supposed to add the missing rt reflections from quality mode so I'm not sure if this is a troll or genuine impression of the update.

That's a dev decision. ND also leaves a bunch of old modes in Uncharted and TLOU on the Pro. Maybe because they want to let people compare? I dunno.

checked balanced, honestly difficult to tell the difference, far away stuff (like distant mountains) still shimmers pssr on or off.
stuff around you seem stable and clean though. now backport this to outlaws.

might be a bigger improvement on perf mode, haven't checked that

The game has quite a bit of ghosting with TAA, I wonder if it's gone now. Stuck at work for a few more hours.

Yes.

People often complain when the old options are removed. It's easier to just leave them in there, though many people also complain about having too many options, so you'll never really please everybody.

Couple of comparison shots. Just comparing the modes as I play them (TAA Quality on PC vs PSSR Performance on Pro). Keep in mind, I'm getting 80+fps on PC with TAA Quality

I'm not very good at this kind of thing, but....best I could do.

I'll try to get more shots with other modes tonight.

Tried to get 60 fps on PC last night. Been playing at 30 fps at 4k DLSS Quality, literally every setting maxed out and only have to switch to Balanced when it starts raining really heavily during some big battles. Mostly 80-90% GPU utilization at 4k dlss quality.

Changed to DLSS performance, got up to 44 fps. Not bad. Started changing settings down from ultra to very high. Nothing. Down to high, and got as high as 50 fps and constant drops to mid 40s when galloping or going through cities.

No matter what I do, i cant shake that mid 40s barrier. I dont want to play at medium. So im just going back to 30 fps until 5080s become affordable again.

You have a 3080 currently, right?

On PC, you can see much more sharpness and detail in assets and elements of the scene... But the difference may have a lot to do with the quality of those assets/LOD and draw distance (the graphics in performance mode in PRO suffered a lot of cuts and the base resolution was low) than with the type of AA or rescaling.
Maybe other modes comparasion can help more.

I dont think that PSSR could do that. The PC version is leagues ahead of the consoles. At least with NVIDIA cards.
Leagues? im playing on PC right now and its not leagues. Especially when the PS5 pro literally has both RTGI and RT reflections, hair physics, same destruction, same weather, same shadows. Same everything. This aint no Indiana Jones or Cyberpunk situation.

PSSR should bring it in line with DLSS or close to it.

PC version is leagues ahead of the series s version which doesnt even have RTGI. But then again so are base consoles.

And Nvidia cards perform worse in this game like ever AC game before it. Even with all these expensive RT features which points to games like Cyberpunk just being optimized for Nvidia cards instead of AMD GPUs and Consoles being trash at RT.

All good updates overall — except for the combat tweaks. Breaking armor doesn't feel as impactful anymore, and finishers seem less frequent. The final kill is just a slow-mo hit now, which takes away some of the excitement. Also, performance mode doesn't feel as smooth as it should — there's a noticeable drop in fluidity.

I'm gonna try it tonight, should be easy and reliable to do comparisons with the toggle.
Also I want to see how ray traced reflections are in balanced mode compared to quality mode.

The clarity difference is pretty obvious, but yeah......very different modes here. The most noticeable difference, however, was the smoother game play. It was really bad prior to this patch on Pro. I think this probably reaches the goal of base PS5 Quality mode in Performance mode on Pro. The quality difference is enough for me to favor PC since I still have a couple of more weeks with Ubisoft+.

Will check it out later, YouTube videos aren't a good indicator as the compression in those videos actually looks like PSSR artifacts and people disregard them.
So it's hard to judge how well the implementation is until you actually see it on screen in real-time.
