), it's just a genteelism. "Fat", to my mind, is a bit harsher than "corpulent"; I was debating using "rotund", but I tend to think that should be reserved for musical maestros such as opera singers or conductors.
"Fat" doesn't roll off the tongue the way "corpulent" does, plus the alliteration ("quite corpulent") lends it a certain zest. Did I think about all (or any) of this when I made the post? No, not at all-- point being, I'm sure you have better things to do than criticize my use of language. Or at least I'd like to
think that you have better things to do.
