So are her actions for nothing then?

Absolutely not. She was going to be out anyway. She possibly delayed the enforcement for a few hours, caused Trump to show himself to be even more of a tyrant, and also made them release that ridiculous statement making them look completely insane to any reasonable person.

He literally just made the story way bigger by firing her. What an idiot LOL.

Good job Yates. You did the right thing for the right reasons. Donald Trump can go fuck himself.

??? Defend the indefensible for a couple of more days until Sessions is confirmed and she is gone. Or make a statement and not defend that bullshit. She chose well.

God damn the language used in this statement. Pathetic.

To see a press release worded so aggressively and negatively just gave me a lot of pause. Completely unprofessional.

No, she can go to sleep tonight knowing she stood up for her beliefs, unlike a lot of GAF that couldn't do the same to their Trump voting relatives and friends.
This. "It's just a disagreement! A difference in ideals" if you can't even put your foot down vs friend and fam you are complicit in allowing racism sexism etc to exist. Especially in these times. We HAVE to be willing to lose relationships to stop this shit from perpetuating.

He could've just let her go tomorrow with Sessions being confirmed and nothing would've happened

But nope, he had to tweet about it like a shitlord, appoint someone for a day, and have Bannon write him that fucking drivel

The Attorney General serves at the pleasure of the President and can be removed at any time.

The wording is sure troubling though.

When you say the acting AG has "betrayed the Department of Justice" as you fire them, You're basically trying to make yourself a fascist dictator.

"Jeff sessions is being held up for strictly political reasons"

It's almost like... he's being confirmed... for office...

You know... a political position...

He loves this though. It puts something else in the news cycle, it puts the attention on him.

Yep, she did the right thing. The hasty statement sounds deranged and tinpot. Trump was forced to show his hand further and sooner.

Every republican who stays silent from here on out is an accomplice to treason and coup.

A lot of hyperbole in this thread. It's the President's right to replace subordinates that won't carry out his directives. But kudos to her for going out in a blaze of righteous glory.

Be upset when Trump relieves the State dissenters.

I can only hope you guys are right in thinking his base will see it as crazy. I think they're enjoying watching this stuff but don't necessarily understand the ramifications.

What would be better is for countless people in the Justice Department to stage a walkout, all resigning in protest of what Trump just did. That would be awesome.

But it doesnt matter. Two weeks ago we had the hooker piss thing and look at where we are now. Its all moving so fast that none of this matters.

Trump has done a ton of worrying and dangerous things but this is not one of them. Cabinet-level officials (and several ranks below them too) being replaced by an incoming President is the norm. An acting Cabinet official from the previous administration who refuses to cooperate with the new one (no matter how admirable or principled I may find that decision) is obviously not going to be kept on. Not that she would have been in that position for more than a few days anyway since her replacement will be confirmed by the Senate soon.
