Comic book nerds are way too hung up on how the characters look. I'd rather they pick an actor who can actually play the part.

I agree. That's why I nominated Tim Roth. Although, I think Paul Bettany is a fine candidate as well.

Really, really hoping that Crispin Glover isn't being considered. I think he does a great "silent and creepy guy" but it's like typecasting all over again. For me, this Joker really has to live up to what this film began. Scarecrow isn't a maniacal villain in every scene...the ability for Murphy to do both the cold and calculating Crane and the maniacal Scarecrow is what makes the character that much more interesting.

The last thing I want is someone who is either...

a) Unable to capture the maniacal aspect of the character
or
b) Unable to create the image of someone who became horribly disturbed, not just someone who "is" that way

I think Glover fits into the latter category...he's been nothing but creepy ever since Back to the Future. And even there he was a freakin' peeping tom. That's no Joker, damnit.

I think it is worth a look to allow Penn to screentest for it...I think that he could put together a strong character. It's whether or not he's the best option that is the question...I think there are probably better Jokers out there, but it's definitely something that they should look into further.

And, to be honest, I'm hoping Joker remains a periphery villain in the second film. I think he would be a great little distraction for Batman; someone terrorizing Batman while he attempts to battle a larger threat. Have one fantastic showdown between them, introducing the character, and then hold off on something major until a third film.

I don't they should go with Joker for the sequel. They need to find another nemesis before Joker was born. That's my 2 cents!

I'd like to add my two cents and nominate Sean Bean as Joker. I find him very entertaining and he seems to have the same feel as the other actors in Begins. Has intense eyes which is I think the hallmark of Begins. The old saying that the eyes are the pathway to the soul..blah blah blah.

I think Glover would be a horrid Joker. He has the shape and look that could be made into the Joker but the guy is naturally creepy. I think one of the great things about the Joker IMO is what makes him creepy. It is not that he is a creepy guy but the fact that he really ISNT joking.


And let's stop the stuipd racism talk DC is a horrible choice for Joker. The Joker isn't black END of discussion. When you choose not to respect the source materail it doesn't matter who you have in the role.

Peter Berg of Chicago Hope / Collateral Fame, or someone of similar abililty gets my Vote. The great thing about Nolan is that he doesn't pick actors based on popularity, but on their ability. I know whom ever he casts as Joker will be perfect, but i think Peter Berg would own the role.

2) I also threw out the Brent Spiner one... everytime I see him in one of these quirky odd-ball roles that he'll pick up every now and then, he's awesome. I could only imagine how neat it'd be to see him play someone like Joker.
