Xbox gamers have been conditioned to not buy games because of gamepass, so are we surprised that this game tanked on xbox? Now maybe square enix can stop blaming sony/playstation exclusivity for final fantasy not selling to their expectations when the reality is the last two named entries they released in ff15 and ff16 have sucked ass.

Why blame Xbox gamers? Sounds like you think the game sucks ass.

The game will sell on sales over time. Lots of people have bought every FF game on Xbox. I have 1-15 and the spinoffs. The game bombed on PC also.

The exclusivity deal fucked them hard. People would have pre-ordered this before they knew how much it sucked. Would have likely done at least 1 million on Xbox at launch if it was day 1. Same for PC.

This saved Square financially. They were on the verge of bankruptcy. Creatively nothing can save them from that bankruptcy but these 22,000 copies just saved Square Enix. We might finally get FFVII Part 3

A two year old Final Fantasy entry which probably is one of the weakest in the history of the IP, released almost at full price, only digital. Yep, I guess SE expected hundreds of thousands of units sold in a week.

Because square enix acted like the xbox platform was going to magically produce a million to two million sales for this game and it was never going to happen. Xbox gamers simply don't buy games like nintendo/playstation guys and relying on the xbox platform to make a profit sales wise is fools gold. It's just a fact at this point. They should've struck a gamepass deal and called it a day.

Edit: I do think ff15 and ff16 suck ass and i stand by that.

Or the game sucks and is too old + too expensive.

The only thing which sucks here is not the game, nor the sales, but the source

"Alina analytics confirms" lol

I think the game sucks ass and this is from someone who pre-ordered it as a final fantasy fan. I'm tired of the realistic look they keep giving these games and the combat was button mashing ass. Not having a party also brought the game down significantly and the main character wasn't strong enough as a lead to make up the difference.

1. Most gamers own an XSX and a PS5, so likely played it already

2. Also shadow dropped. Many likely are not aware it's out

3. They know it sucks

At least let's tag Alinea Analytics threads with the proper tags: Clickbait, Cringe.

Wonder how many copies Final Fantasy VII Remake will sell on Xbox if it's not on Gamepass, because it's quite obvious that Xbox owners are no longer interested in buying games.

And don't start with the "will wait till it's free on gamepass". Nothing is free on gamepass, stop paying and you can't play shit. Same as "free" on PS Plus. Once the sub ends you can't play anyone of those "free" monthly games

Expected as much. It's pathetic and embarrassing that people on the Xbox Reddit section were hyped that FFXVI was coming to their platform. What a disgusting echo chamber Reddit is, and I'm glad they are shown to be an insignificant, very vocal, tiny minority who should be ignored.

To think that Square Enix is considering a multiplatform approach will lead to bigger success... only it has revealed that this strategy is falling flat on its face. I don't know how much it cost Square Enix to port it to Xbox Series, considering the S's lower RAM and weaker specs, but it must have cost a few million dollars or so to adjust the game to fit the Series S's specs.

I can only see the look on Square Enix's face at the laughable Xbox sales numbers. To think trashing their relationship with Sony - who btw had given them full development support for their games since the PS1 era - will bite them in the ass hard!

Internet army!... mock these clowns.

Xbox people "concerned" for 3M copies sold being a flop (while underperforming for a series with this legacy... also a series that has lost its luster and prestige over the years tho) which is the real reason of lackluster sales. They don't get to argue that releasing games on Xbox day and date will magically make games sell exponentially better.

This number will reaffirm the narrative that the people on Xbox don't buy games and further demonstrate the massive negative impact of Game Pass..... 🤷🏼‍♂️

not worth it to release third party games on Xbox
Right, because releasing third party games on a platform with tens of millions of users is totally 'not worth it', unless you're just mad that your favorite console isn't the only one that exists

You're not making a point, you're just auditioning for a PlayStation tattoo

I am here just thinking why you didn't post the thread. Your normally quick to post :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Also wondering why Mat Piscatella hasn't given this a special mention as well.

The spending habits of said userbase is more the problem these days.

It makes more sense for a third party publisher to get a gamepass deal then to release a game on the xbox platform without one and hope for success. Doom the dark ages tanked and i bet one of the reasons it did was because of gamepass day 1 and how that screwed up the sales.

Death Stranding was at the top of the charts for a while. Pretty decent comparison. It was also recent. Late port. But they priced it fairly for an old game and people bought it. It's just the typical lazy trolling to say Xbox gamers don't buy any games.

- A game with questionable reviews and no consensus among users.

- It was ported more than two years later, after a lamentable PC port and a sales failure.

- Shadowdrop was ported without any marketing and was ported to the XSeries at a very low price, even worse than the PC version.

- Released at a time when there are much better options and new games.

- Price like cuasi a day one Game.

It couldn't have been worse planned. They should have followed the example of Kojima Productions and how they released Death Stranding (despite being a port from five years ago), which sold very well and was among the best-sellers for several months.

I'm not trolling because idc to troll. I'm just saying that gamepass affects sales and xbox gamers buy less games than nintendo/playstation guys which is true. And i can't find any sales figures on death stranding for xbox so i'll take your word for it man.

I saw this coming. A mediocrely received Final Fantasy, 2 years after launch, on a console where the users are conditioned to not buy games.

I was talking about them on the other thread lol.

Always suspicious when an analytics firm only posts about the console warrior talk of the hour.

EDIT: The more embarrassing part is the real number could conceivably be lower.

That's right green rats !!!
Show them they can fuck off with their 2 years late launch.
We don't need Square Enix shit on rat console, we are doing just fine without it.
😀

Fact: People don't buy Xbox for Final Fantasy
Fact 2: Final Fantasy is heavily associated with PlayStation

The 6 months after death stranding's release on xbox:

Or the game sucks and is too old + too expensive.

They launched at too high a price for a 2-year-old game.

Death stranding launched at a fantastic impulse buy worthy price, hence it stayed near the top of the paid app chart for over a month after it released.

Should have launched at 29.99 for the standard version and 50 bucks for the complete edition.

But they just don't buy games, its not a troll take its just a fact. Not saying the game failing for its own merits isn't part of it, but theres absolute no reason for them to buy games when they were conditioned to "wait on Gamepass", it reflected on their consuming habits.

It is reasonable to think that people who have waited this long for this game already don't mind waiting until the game eventually hits GP. If you really wanted to buy this game, you most likely already bought it on PS5/PC.

Yoshida going on stage with Phil Spencer will now be immortalized in the cringe hall of fame.

Indeed, but we shouldn't be using Alinea Analytics as a source
%100. This is the reason why I opted to just bump the announcement thread instead of making a new one. The Alinea figure (which wasn't even officially delivered via article) was already floating around when I bumped that.

But the early signs still don't look good at all (#27 for the complete edition and #43 for the base version).
