Am I the only one excited that Fallout 4's graphics are modest?

I saw the trailer as it popped up, but I haven't been able to keep up with any impressions of it until recently.

The whole time, I was thinking how happy I was that they didn't go through the route of pushing the graphics because this means a few things:

- We are likely to get 60fps
- The draw distance and instance size is going to be large, could even have none
- Means that they spent a lot more dev time on unique content

I just feel that, above all, Fallout 3/NV was a much better experience on PC because of IQ and draw-distances, better loading times etc. So much that regardless of how the game could look, this is the most important thing a game like Fallout should have.

Now if the game doesn't have great IQ and framerate then I'll be confused. Like, Saint's Row confused.

...

Am I crazy?

LOL!

Looks great to me, maybe a bit to vibrant in color, but still looks great. I can't wait to play it. And it looks like its coming out this year, that is really making me excited.

I always thought Fallout never mean to be very pretty game to begin with.

it certainly very atmospheric.

if it's 60fps I'll change my name to gamebryo

It looks rough but maybe it will look better in motion, I hope they have something good cooked up for e3

I don't mind the homely graphics either, but

Maybe the game won't suffer so many crashes since they may not be pushing the consoles to their limit...maybe

If we get a solid 30fps I'll be happy coming from playing PS3 versions of the series last gen. 60fps though c'mon I don't think they are modest to hit 60 on console.

It all boils down to how stable the engine is. If the game is solid, I'll happily accept the graphics (which is kinda sad, but considering Bethesda's track record...)

If the game is still a glitchfest, well.... in either case, I'll be waiting about a year before jumping in, probably when the inevitable "Game of the Year" edition launches.

I guess people now prefer to have unrealistic trailers followed by a downgrade, to something that isn't OMG but still looks great and is legit.

This is LEGIT.

so no, you are not the only one.

Just the art is such a huge leap over the last two Fallout's I really can't complain.

Also I think its gonna look pretty nice at 4K/60fps on my PC ;)

i actually like the graphics, are they excellent? nah but they're not bad either. to me they look more than acceptable. like if i was to give it a grade I'd give it a B. character models get a B-. what really worries me are the animations.

60 glitches per second is more likely then 60 frames per second.

It looks about how I expected it to.

I'm just so happy that it doesn't seem to be cross gen. Not having to design the game around systems that only have 512MB of RAM is a very good thing.

I'm going to be playing it on PC and I'm looking forward to seeing how much this game can be modded.

If those things you pointed out were only capable of being possible with the graphics showcased in that trailer then I suppose it's a design decision to better the game.

If it's a case of them simply touching up the assets from when the project began as a cross-gen title then they did not do nearly enough to bring it to the level of graphical fidelity that is to be expected from a 2015 release.

No! The fact that Bethesda has limited the graphics is my favourite thing. Put more power into the game running much, much better than the last batch on consoles and put more shit on screen.

This is the same pub pushing out Wolfenstein on consoles.

If anything I don't see how them using a modified engine of the prior games having any possibility of NOT being 60fps...

As long as the game can still deliver the atmosphere that I love from FO3 and NV, I can deal. And it's not like it looks that bad. Hell, the lighting itself is enough for me to love it's look.

I'll be getting it on PC anyway.

Id tech 5 is built from the ground up for corridor shooters. Open world would be a huge overhaul.

Unless you mean since it's the same publisher then they can do the same with gamebryo, to which I say no

Not sure this needed it's own thread, but stability is important so I guess if those graphics are what it takes to make a stable experience, fine. I wouldn't say I'm excited and I'm not convinced that Bethesda could make a graphical powerhouse if they even wanted to.

I'm just excited we are getting Fallout 4 fuck the graphics good or not.
Hopefully this trend goes away though, tired of seeing people talk about how badly they want a game to exist. Then when it actually happens we have pages of nothing but people bitching about nothing.

So I'm just excited that Fallout 4 is real.

No, I'm glad that Bethesda is seemingly being honest about what the final product will most likely look like.

Too many devs nowadays tend to overshoot the graphical fidelity of how their upcoming game would look initially, but end up downgrading their work for the final release.

I think Fallout 4's graphics are modest because at some point it was meant to be a cross-generation title. I doubt it's due to them wanting higher framerates, this is Bethesda we're talking about, they were perfectly fine with under 30fps in most platforms for Skyrim.

Other than some of the lighting and the amount of foliage, it didn't seem to me like a game that would be immensely hard to get running on last-gen consoles and that's probably because at some point it was.

Not at all. I agree with you and hope this is the case.

Open world, different engine than the publisher's shooters, and Bethesda game studios doesn't have a great history with tech. 30fps
