Amiibo (Nintendo Figurines) - Wallets be Damned, Buying Them All!

vinnygambini

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Nintendo recently announced that Amiibo will be launching this holiday season, corresponding with the release of Wii U's most anticipated holiday title, Super Smash Bros, at a retail price of 12.99$!

I'm a sucker for collectible items, and dare I say I will be buying all if not most the available Amiibo figurines!
Except for Wii Fit Trainer - no love for you

I basically wanted to create this thread to share my enthusiasm and wanted to know if many share the same feelings as I do and if so, which figurines are you planning on purchasing?

I mean look at them :)

The first amiibo series will be for Super Smash Bros.™ for Wii U.

In the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U game, you'll be able to scan your amiibo into the game. You'll then be able to fight against your amiibo, team up with it in battle or watch it battle other in-game characters. Your amiibo will be able to increase its attack and defense stats and even learn new fighting tactics.

Furthermore, according to an interview with Miyamoto-san and Takashi-san at IGN, all Super Smash Characters will be represented with an Amiibo down the line.

i'm not a fan of figurines in general, i don't collect anything, but i'll definitely get all the amiibos.
Because they look great, because it's not only a figurine, because i'll use them in games i love.

I plan on eventually buying every single Amiibo made, because I am such a Nintendo fanboy. I'll probably get around 3 per month until I have the whole set.
Samus best amiibo.

Im absolutely getting Samus and Link. I love collectibles like this and $12.99 seems like a steal if the quality is like the pictures

We were told what they were do in Smash Bros at least (let you 'train' your own bot that you can use in most game modes, and allow you and others to 'battle' each other in AI battles).

So, is there a reason for the name Amiibo? Is it like a pun in Japanese or something? I recognize the Mii in it, and I guess it sounds like amigo, but I still don't get it.

So about the same as Disney Infinity figures. That was my personal ceiling, so I'll definitely try to get them all. I'm not gonna go nuts all at once though.

I know I'll end up getting them all, but I wish the line-up for the first 12 was a bit different.

What is wrong with it? It is smart to launch with your most popular characters and then start releasing others. Get people on the train and carry them all the way to the bank.

Im going to be in trouble with figures pretty soon with all these lines im buying.

Loads of Japanese figures(Figma, etc)
Jakks Pacific Nintendo line
DC Multiverse
Amiibo
And Disney Infinity actually interests me this year(with characters like Aladdin, Jasmine, Stitch, Tinker Bell and mostly possibly Mulan)

They really look well done, and for the price its tempting. I mean, I thought they would end up looking like McDonald's toys, but I'm proved wrong. Dat shine on Samus.

Will eventually buy them all but Samus and Wii Fit Trainer will be my initial purchases. May get Link to near launch.

Like Disney Infinity and Skylanders I'm sure buy 1 get 1 50% and buy 1 get 1 sales will come early next year.

Then I strike.

I hope weird licensing issues or whatever don't prevent third party smash characters from getting amiibos. I mean I know Nintendo said they're planning on releasing amiibos of every character, but I don't wanna get my hopes up too high for Mega Man until I see it.

But yeah, I'm definitely in for a pretty decent chunk of them if every character does get one. Mega Man, Little Mac and Samus being the top of my list

Amiibos cant wait to take my niece and nephew to the store when i buy them all in bulk so people can think that im buying them for them :)

Mega Man I'm a bit concerned about, but he's been licensed for a bunch of merchandising in the past so not too concerned. I imagine Capcom have already given their a-okay if Nintendo said of all fighters.

SEGA is pretty okay with Sonic merchandising as they've shown, Namco is partially developing the game for Pacman, and Shulk is pretty certain being not really fully third party.

13$ may be ok if the figurines are compatible with many games / franchises which seems to be the case.

I'd rather go with this that a 5$ Mario figurine needed for every game he's appearing in (MK 8, SSB, MP 10 etc.) so maybe not that bad.

Most important thing is going to be the quality (knowing Nintendo I'm confident) and the content that these new items brings in game (no details yet? or I missed it).

I wonder if Link's Amiibo will do anything in MK8 once Link is added.
I still think if you buy the Amiibo you should unlock him in MK8 for free.

Samus, Pikachu and Link will be my initial purchases to try the functionality out and see what the figures are like....some of my favourite franchises and the figurines for each look cool. But I'm not convinced enough by the functionality in Smash to go crazy and feel compelled to buy them all quickly. The sheer number of Amiibos they will inevitably make mean I'm trying to convince myself I shouldn't go too nuts on trying to start a collection.

If they are at he right price point I can see them being an impulse purchase every time I go into the city though. One every few weeks isn't painful to my wallet and a bit of fun.

Samus, Peach, Link, Wii Fit Trainer, and Marth are instant purchases for me, I really hope the quality holds up for the actual released product because they look great.

I'm going to buy some, and I probably won't even use them as they're designed. Just official Nintendo figurines is good enough for me.
