Andor |OT| Disney+

So that's why they spent so much time building up this heist, they got the cargo, but it decimated the entire team. The show needed to teach us the dynamics of the team.

They were so careful with building the characters, that the betrayal at the end meant something, it felt like something he would do, you can also understand why the characters just "moved on" and carried on the task when people died because they all knew it was dangerous and they all knew there was a high likelihood of something bad happening. Something they made us understand by allowing us to spend so much time with the team.

If this was Rings of Power, or the Obi-Wan show, all of this would have happened in 2 episodes with no layered character building and it all would have felt cheap and they all would have survived. It's refreshing to see writers planning ahead and being talented.

If this keeps up, Andor is gonna turn out to be the second-best Star Wars content created on the screen after the OG movies.

Give that composer a medal! How the steps of the soldiers merged into the music, as well as the alarm sirens - brillant.

Did you notice the small details, like the worn out metal doors? They have been more than 7 years on this backyard planet and it just SHOWS!

Only complain would be why they don’t have a more modern system to transport the goods to the ship, but as this is an outpost, it’s probably not so well funded as others.

I fckng love this show.

It's crazy the stark difference between dogshit Obi-wan's base breakout scene vs Andor's heist.

In Obi-wan they had Leia under Obi-wan's coat while tons of storm troopers just ignore them. Essentially a scene filled with NPCs.

Versus Andor's incredibly intricate planned heist which makes sense and every individual on both sides acting and reacting logically given their situation. For example when the tower guard discovers the plan he confronts them in the vault but doesn't just start blasting he in realtime is trying to figure out what is going on while being ordered by Lt Gorn to step away. Only once the Commander drops he start to attack.

Best star wars show imo, beats mando.
Mando still has that “sense of wonder” with force powers, lightsabers, etc, while Andor is grounded and gritty.

I just fear that it’s not the most watched show, as it’s not really discussed online (you have nothing to hate in it) and even this thread is moving really slow. Compare to She-Hulk and RoP, where people complain all the time and keep the attention running.

We probably don’t deserve nice things …

People are jaded, I watched everything from the start, at the start. Got tired keeping up with all the shows.

Looking forward to watching this when it ends though. Happy to see it's good reviews. Perfect Halloween materiel.

The hate watch stuff is so strange. I'm not saying Rings of Power or She-Hulk are particularly good but people talk about them like they are legitimately the worst shows ever. And if people think that then that's totally fair enough. But I don't get why they then watch 8 episodes of it.

Because LOTR is such a massive franchise that people are willing to follow it through hell.

I wanted to hate she hulk. But I like it.

I would say I have a pretty evolved sense of humor and this show makes me laugh still. I expected it to be horseshit humor like any current sitcom. It's not Seinfeld, but I get a few laighs in every episode.

As for Andor. There isn't much else to say. It's consistently amazing so far. There isn't much to pick apart imo. I love the slow episodes. I love the action filled eps. Keep it up. Make more shows like this.

„A little less controversy, a little more action please” 🎶

When I don’t like something, I stop watching it (did it with RoP). If I like smth a bit, I keep watching (She-Hulk). It’s that simple.

Andor receives some criticism because it drags and is slow. People are not used anymore to character development and letting your protagonists breath.

But the impact of the last episode meant so much more because of that.

It's not being written by Tolkein though? I could get it if he was still alive and this was him writing a TV show that was going through a rocky start. The guy has built up some goodwill with people because of his previous work. But it's not being made by The Lord of the Rings guy. It's just the name of the franchise. People don't owe it to Amazon of all things to keep watching if they really hate it that much.

Say there was a type of soup you really liked and some other company bought the rights to that name and just started putting literal shit in the cans. If you kept buying the cans of shit and talking about how bad it tasted at some point it's on you that you're going out of your way to eat shit, no matter what label is on the can.

A corporation know they can buy a franchise, churn out whatever with it and there's going to be a decent base level audience that will tune in no matter what because they will watch anything with the right name on it.

If people like She-Hulk that's cool. I'm talking about the people who will go on and on about how shit it is and then every week will sit down and watch the new episode. I get maybe giving it a couple episodes to get a feel for it. But if you're 8 episodes in and still hating it then you're just wasting your time by watching it every week.

Anyway, that last Andor episode was great. Like most people I do love a good heist. Also the Eye effect looked really cool.

This is a billion-dollar TV show though, it's too big of a spectacle to just ignore. Especially if you have invested interest in the characters and the world, you need to see what they do with it. To see them fail this bad is fascinating and disturbing at the same time.

It's wild how tuned people are to fast-moving Hollywood mass-produced entertainment that people feel Andor is slow. Another blow dealt by the Disney machine of cookie-cutter hype, it's ruining people's tastes. When they finally put in some effort, people just want the sugar again.

I think Andor having the number of episodes it does has lended itself the opportunity to really build the characters and make things work. Nothing feels rushed. It’s been slow to start but still compelling and the last episode was brilliant. This show is a symphony. Last episode was as good as anything has ever been in Star Wars.

Plenty of people ignore it though. The vast majority of people aren't watching Rings of Power. I get being curious what a billion-dollar show looks like, I was curious about that myself going into it. But again, once you've watched a couple episodes you've then got a feel for that. I guess what I don't get is putting franchise over quality and enjoyment when you're deciding how to spend your free time. Are you not maybe better off broadening your tastes and maybe you will find something new you really love? In terms of what they do with the characters and world, it's not like there are a shortage of articles breaking down what happens in each episode. If nothing else you're actively contributing to the success of the show by watching it. It's not like Amazon can tell the difference between you watching it because you enjoy it and watching it because you hate it. Is there a point where a Lord of the Rings TV show would be so bad you wouldn't watch it?

As I said, I don't hate it like others do. I just don't get people fixating on something that they apparently hate so much.

I love that they're waiting to properly have Stormtroopers in a scene too. Think about it......6 episodes in and barely a mention of them (maybe like 2-3 times) and one far glimpse of them.

I'm hoping that means that they get a real good first scene like they did with the Tie Fighters!!

Blimey. I think if we are all brutally honest, episode 6 is probably the best bit of live action Star Wars we've ever had.

Pacing, character development, real stakes, ambiguity, married with fantastic direction and a great sci-fi backdrop.

And to think I laughed when the series was announced.

What's great about this show, is that if it wasn't Star Wars it would still be a great show. While there's a season arc, there's def 3-episode mini stories in it.
It's just so well built and thought out. Very refreshing.

Great climax. We have real character development leading into real stakes. We have a writer who is not overly sentimental about doing what's necessary given the scenario. Total opposite of that garbage Boba Fett climax where everyone stood around shooting blasters at each other inconsequentially for an hour. This had danger, intensity, and death. Blasters feel dangerous. TIE fighters feel dangerous. Characters did what they would have done as events developed. Shockingly competent. Great score, too.

Thanks, now I just realized that: We are in the same universe as the twist-and-shoot Vespa driver 😵‍💫

Apparently next week’s ep will be standalone. Episode 8 will be the first part of the usual 3-ep arc. And then 11 & 12 will be the finale.

So well written, so dark and gritty and mature, almost a bit too dark lol. That ending reminded me of how Rogue One ended.

It's not something to smile about. It means good shows like this will get passed over for shit like obiwan.
It does.

These companies like Disney or Amazon buy an IP/Rights or whatever. Make lazy shit banking on nostalgia, taking for granted the success and then failing at it. Is something to smile.

I hope Disney still reads the comments on this show on social media, which are nearly all positive. When Cobra Kai can surpass RoP and HoD, why not Andor.

Holy shit Andor (the character) is uncompromising.

It's great watching a Star Wars show treat the franchise seriously. Aiming for greater things. And they keep introducing great characters at the same pace as they kill them off. Fucking 10/10.

Unless I misunderstand that graph, that's not at all what is happening. The demand for this show is down, meaning it's not as popular as obiwan and the other shit. Which means this show, and shows like it, get less chance of being made, raising the chances that more obiwan shows are greenlit.

Now matter how much we may like this show, the children and less cultured turds that prefer the shooty bang bang shows are going to get this cancelled.

I watched Obi Wan every week ready for a badass Vader fight and got maybe 10 minutes of gold out of what 4 hours?

Andor I watch because it’s good and Diego is great. All the imperial stuff has been like what I wanted since I played TIE Fighter as a 9 year old.

I don’t think he’s watched Andor. That was just a shitpost.

This show is down because past shows were bad. (Also this show ain't that great. Is better, but still has it's issues)

They need to increase the quality of shows in a consistent basis.

Shitty, but not unexpected:

If I had to guess it's because this doesn't resonate with child-aged audiences, probably a small percentage of young adults as well. I mean, it's a slow simmer spy thriller with lots of drama. Not a laser sword or fancy suit of Beskar armor in sight.

I have enjoyed the show, but my kids would not, so I have not watched it with them. Unfortunately kids like stupid colored scooters.

Specifics? I hate new star wars stuff yet I find Andor to be well paced. Each episode furthers the plot and develops the cast. What more do you want?
Well. You can eat a frozen pizza and say: 'this is good" until you eat the real good stuff. That is what happened to me.

Andor is good. Has gravitas, high stakes. The characters don't feel like cartoony representations of people.

Issue: it seems they are extending each episode length to reach a quota of content for Disney+.

I understand your issue and I am asking for specific examples. I'm the first to slag on new star wars stuff. Every new entry into the franchise except Andor and Rogue One feels bloated and lacking creative direction. Andor's episodes are around 5-10 minutes shorter than the other new series and I think that decision makes for much tighter storytelling.

Is it the lack of action that bothers you? Or is it something else?
