Android |OT5| The Sonic Cycle

I have to disappoint Android-GAF, bought an iPhone 6 today.

And hey, I really like it so far. The screen is surprisingly good! Was a bit worried about the resolution. Battery life wont be as good as it was on the G2 I used before, I can already tell that.

I'll probably be back in a year or two, hopefully to a normal sized Nexus...
don't think you're disappointing anyone by buying a great phone.

My Nexus 6 still can't make it through a hard day. All I want is a phone that doesn't cause battery anxiety. Just one day of hard use. That's all I want. After like a decade of modern smart phones, come on.

Yea seriously. I'd totally be fine even if it's 720p 5" screen if I can get 8 hrs SoT without even trying...

S6 edge. On a full charge. 9 hours later with extensive use throughout the day and it's 48%. I'm fine with that.

AT&T calls it HD Voice; Honestly I couldn't tell a difference when I had it on.

The HD Voice/LTE Voice improvement is dramatic, but it needs to be a on supported phone, and it needs to be on for both ends of a call. It's as if the other person is sitting next to you. A little creepy.

why can't we blame everyone, pushing these ridiculous resolutions or screen sizes before you've solved the battery problem is an issue.

But that isn't the issue, is it? The flagship with the lowest resolution is the iPhone and they're consistently low on the battery benchmarks. Hell, the bigger one has even more life to it.

Maybe it's a harder issue to solve than just blaming one component?

Also limited to the same networks for now, but VZW and ATT are working to make it interoperable.

My dog was murdered by a 3.5mm audio port and I will not rest until the standard is dead
✋ damage control.

4 hours SoT and 56% broseph.
If the Note Edge was a legit Edge, I'd have gone for it tbh. Instead of complaining about battery life today, though, it would be the ugly software.

No more or less shit than the usual included phones.

Just like regular headphones there are good and bad BT headphones.

BT requires a re-encode step and I don't believe it offers a quality even as good as 320 kbps MP3. There are lots of nice things about BT but audio quality is not one of them.

Nah, aptx pretty much solved that. I'd have agreed with you if I stuck with iPhone when I had my Jaybird sportsband 2 as it was pretty awful on iPhone 4S, but when I switched to a phone that supported it, the quality was brilliant.

Yeah I hear good things about aptx. Going to get a compatible Bt receive without out for my car, and if I get Bt headphones they'll definitely be aptx compatible. Shame iPhone doesn't support it yet

I'm not sure what happened between yesterday and today but 'Cell Standby' doesn't seem to be using as much battery now. Now if only 'Google Play Services' would stop using so much...

apple's battery life is remarkable considering the size of the battery they use in the 6

But again, resolutions and screen sizes were just two examples, it goes on from there. Obsession with thinness is another one that apple is guilty of (and soon to be everyone).

Just ordered 2 Galaxy S6's for me and my pops. We both have been iPhone users for years, so I'm making the switch. I don't know, I was looking up iPhone 6 reviews on youtube last night and somehow stumbled upon a few S6 reviews and it seemed like a much better world to live in, especially since the iPhone 6 looks like a lot of the same. Hopefully I'm doing the right thing...*skulks away*

they both have strengths and weaknesses. There's no bad choice between the two.

you could even complain about the ugly software from the phone since it would still be on.

you could even complain from the phone in multi-window so you can look at some ugly Samsung app while simultaneously complaining in Chrome.

I think it's the worst possible time to switch to iPhone. The s6 is so much better. Crazy better screen, finally a better camera, faster storage, and even a more premium design. There is finally a better alternative on android on all those key areas. I could imagine switching before for the camera or whatever, but unless you hate android or have a specific need for iOS, switching to an ip6 now doesn't make sense to me, and I switch from platform to platform constantly. If you don't want the s6, wait for the s6 plus and see if apple at least ups the ram and/or the mp on the camera.

Apple's biggest strength is their standby time, I don't understand how they do it so well.

Agreed as long as battery life is not a serious concern. i6 battery life is much better.

glass design is so 2013. Metal that shit.

The difference in battery life between the s6 and the regular ip6 is negligible, but only one will conveniently charge wirelessly or charge ridiculously quick.

My Xperia X2 consistently gets me through a day's heavy use. As of right now it's 16 hours since I took it off the charger and despite quite heavy use today still has 43% remaining. My wife has an iPhone 6 which is nearly as good. After the Nexus 5 and 6 I just conclude that battery life is not a high priority for Google. Personally there's no way I could go back to worrying about when I'll next be near a charger.

You're joking right? IOS idle battery consumption absolutely destroys Android especially in an i6 vs s6 scenario.

Not to mention this:

However the quick charge on the s6 is a huge plus.

Dat idle-time battery life, though. I have severe doubts that Android will catch-up to iOS on that one specific area.

Sorry bud, don't know what to say. Actually, just implant Qi charging nodes into your palm. Boom.

What's considered good idle-time? My phone only loses 1% about every couple hours, and I still find that damn amazing. I haven't owned an iPhone to compare though...
