Data saving > ASOP bullshit that has random bugs

Data saving? I have an unlimited plan, don't need that shit. Vanilla browser had no bugs when I used it on KitKat. Google just fucked about with L to force people to use the substandard browser. You guys are like beaten wives with Stockholm syndrome when it comes to Google. Please Mr. Google, let me take the next beating, please take away more features, please make my experience worse.

Eh, the old browser should have been killed a long time ago. It was awful.

Chrome isn't great, but there's plenty of options in the play store at least.

I don't know who at Google thought that un-hidable notification banners that cover a good part of the top of your screen was a good idea. If you swipe it then it deletes, it's quite possibly the stupidest thing Google has done with Android so far. The old way of showing notifications was so much better.

if you have 5.1 you can swipe up to dismiss the heads up but the actual notification stays in the notification bar.

I disabled data saving just for the fact that everything is rerouted through Googles servers and then compressed.

While I agree, in 5.1 they added the ability of swiping up on it to dismiss it but keep the notification. Still a poor implementation but it's somewhat better now

Did not know that. Hopefully Samsung releases 5.1 for the S6 soon.

I don't know a single person that uses that

hello. Not everyone has unlimited data so it is nice to have it activated especially for kids and such.

I haveaa 4GB data plan and also have it activated just in case , and hardly reach 2GB every month so....
I used to use Opera Mobile in the past when data plans were smaller, it had also data saving options. BUt chrome just is easier plus syncs with all decives and desktop. Just convenient. I should be better though, it is slowly becoming the new Internet Explorer.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Most of you with unlimited data know you are all getting throttled right? Just so ya know, and yes I'm talking to you Verizon people.

I think taking away features is great and does not necessarily make an experience worse. It shows focus. Well, assuming the removed features are rubbish or unfocused.

Chrome sucks compared to the stock S6 browser; it's really noticeable on GAF. I just don't get it. This is the first time I've actually stopped using Chrome on an Android phone.

I have not even touched the stock browser... hmmmm I suppose I could give it a shot.

So people who want those options are SOL because you want a bit of focus. Fuck off and buy an iPhone then.

I'm on ATT and I can confirm I was getting throttled on my stock M8. Post moving to developer edition I'm at 14GB and no throttling in sight. If you've got the CarrierIQ bullshit then yes, you get throttled, otherwise, they don't.

Fuckers.

what other browsers are good? Xperia just comes with chrome, didn't realise other companies were providing alternatives.

Yeah it's actually not even close. The Samsung stock browser is really nice. There's only two things I don't like about it. First is that there are some preloaded bookmarks on there that I can't delete, which is fucking bullshit.

Second is that it crashes once in a while, even while just browsing GAF. HTC's stock browser, for example, was a bit slower but always rock solid when it came to reliability, only time it really crashed was on resource heavy websites.

The stock Android browser is still much faster and efficient.

Dolphin is good because of flash support and such, but it feels slower than both chrome and stock. Also, it handles Youtube links weird for some reason. You can set it to auto play YouTube video in the YouTube app (unless they've fixed this since I've last checked).

Yeah but we're supposed to learn to love it and be happy that Google are removing other options or gimping other products because it shows "focus". What a joke.

I feel you. I shit on google all the time for various things. I have a feeling they all walk around blind folded there. Some pin the tail on the donkey stuff going on in terms of priorities.

Their number 1, 2 and 3 priority should be making chrome the best browser on the planet. It's still the major portal that their services are accessed through. The mac version is a ram hog and decimates battery life, the mobile version is just ok. If samsung is beating you in benchmarks with their own browser, you're doing something wrong.

Android L Chrome is blergh.

I enjoyed my Z1 Lollipop upgrade, but I'd be lying if it wasn't almost entirely because it's now prettier with fancier animations. Feature-wise, there's a lot of awkward design changes that seems to prioritise the fancy animation.

this years I/O will be interesting to see if they preview the next big version of android which I'm sure will be more of a maintenance release. Probably 5.2. Just wish they'd be more transparent about the issues and what they're doing about them.

Like....tell me why the nexus 9 is getting the shaft lol.

It's really weird, scrolling is janky on Chrome, and selecting items from the quick menu on mobile GAF (after the menu finally opens, that is), is just stupidly laggy. I really don't get it.

Stock browser has no issues with either.

I hate not using Chrome, by the way, but it is just that much worse.

I don't use stock so this isn't a problem for me

I don't understand why google got rid of the swipe from edge to switch tabs. Now you have to do it from the address bar. Is there a browser with that feature?

Verizon doesn't throttle LTE usage. Supposedly because of an agreement they made with the FCC when they bought the additional spectrum they now brand as "XLTE" they agreed not to throttle LTE. Verizon's LTE network covers 97% of their 3G footprint.

I'm not real concerned about Verizon's 3G throttling. They can throttle that all they want, I'm not on their 3G data network and haven't been for like 4 years now.

Maxthon!

You can use gestures to switch tabs left or right. I use inverted/mirrored L's gestures

With gestures and a floating refresh button, I can make full use of the 5.2" screen for web browsing.

Habit Browser. Not only does it have gestures but it also has quick menus that you can swipe from either side, essentially letting you use the phone one-handed. And the quick menus are extremely customizable, just like the rest of the browser.

I have mine set up with those Up and Down arrows, which lets me scroll all the way to the top or bottom of a site respectively. Pretty damn useful for browsing through forum threads, and it's this one feature along with the quick menu, that's made me stuck with the browser from my Note 2, 3 and now 4.
