Except the fingerprint scanner is 100% unsecure as cops can legally force you to open your phone with your finger.

They can't do that with a pass code.

+1

US only concern.

In the UK you can go to prison for two years (or five if they think you're concealing child porn or terrorism items) for refusing to divulge a decryption key to the police upon a court order. A pass code would count.

I just got a spam notification recommending a video because I watched something else from the official YouTube app.

I would like everyone involved in this scenario to die in fire.

Ugh. Carrier exclusive.

Why do manufacturers keep doing this stupid practice?

Windows Phone made that mistake all the time. I wonder why sales are bad.

This has probably been discussed before but I just wanted to know: is the google photos app supposed to replace the "gallery" app?
I mean I have a few folders with pics that I don't need to be uploaded to the cloud, like screenshots, whatsapp pictures, etc but I'd like them to be displayed on my default photos/gallery app. There's no folders in photos right?

So maybe I should just let photos do it's thing on the background and keep on using gallery as my default app?

Swipe in from the left and then select "device folders" to see the other stuff.

Something annoying I noticed with the Photos app:
I have about 10 local pics I have taken since I flashed my last factory image on my phone. I went out into the middle of nowhere over the weekend (camping) so I had zero connection to mobile data. I opened the app and of course I couldn't view my hundreds of backed up pictures, but I also couldn't view my local pictures! I even went to 'device folders' and nothing was showing up. I had to go to the camera app and swipe to see my recent photos and they appeared there fine...

Been stuck with s3 for a while now. Suddenly I got the chance to upgrade and I haven't done any research on what's good. Reviews of the s6 seem great, though. Might just stick with Samsung.

Literally any flagship from 2014 and later is better than your S3. The S6 will blow your goddamned mind.

Damn, apple beat google to multitasking on on their tablets. lol. Whoda thunk it.

Yeah pretty hilarious. Still see it as a semi-useless feature on phones unless it was 7". Should be good on tablets though. All the iPhone models going forward will probably integrate it with the introduction of 2GB RAM.

Kinda upset they adopted Google Now. It's a useless battery hogging feature imo. Literally use it once in a blue moon on my Android phones.

News looks good though.

Looks damn good, too. A shame it's locked to the Air 2.
Yeah the implementation is a lot slicker than I thought it would be.

Slide down one is for most no? It's just the good one fir air 2 :p

pretty sure apple's wont be a battery hog. Goes against their MO.

Hopefully this lights a fire under google multitasking wise.

Okay, I bought a smartphone for a parent. Alcatel one touch pop icon. Long story short, whenever she calls the electric company, she gets put on hold but when they pick up they can not her her speak. She called Walmart and they heard her fine. But she called the garbage company and they cant hear her. Its been working fine all month. She tried calling the electric company all week and they cant hear her.

Software bug? Change settings? Is it busted?

What am I looking at here?

It seems like the issue arises whenever she has to go through an automated answering service for a business that requires button presses.

well, i mean, you could use it on your phone or tablet with the M preview right now. Its still janky and have no idea if it will make it into the final release (doubtful), but hey, its there!

Haven't seen Apple's conference, but is it that different from M's multi-window?
for one it actually exists for the public in their OS update lol. And two, it's wayyyyyy slicker than what's shown there imo.

Hopefully it comes as part of M by launch but the fact that they wouldn't show it off as a major feature doesn't inspire confidence.

Yep, as usual, Apple polishes in secret and releases a cooked product.

Siri's boosts look to be pretty tepid, mostly pattern recognition and the like. No real machine learning going on here. The keyboard enhancements on the iPad are godmode. Virtual touchpad? Hell fucking yes.

I will say that I've tried out voice to text a bunch today on the iPhone, and it HAS gotten markedly better than last year. I'd buy their stats on the success rate. Even was catching proper nouns like Square.

Yeah I use voice to text a lot. Up until a little while ago I preferred it on Android but I find iOS captures what I'm saying a lot better now. Virtual touchpad is ingenius.

Siri stuff I didn't really care for.

They are adopting it and also promising an extra hour of battery life in iOS 9 so they must be fairly confident that it won't be a battery hog.

There are seriously fewer and fewer reasons for the average person to not go Apple anymore. Android tablets are straight up pointless now, IMO.

They showed nothing but API's and background information at I/O on M. They will have a separate conference on M like they did on others when it gets closer to release. I still don't fully expect it anyway.

Android tablets are always pointless. As far as phones, well... you can use Android phones and see what Apple will be working on for the next 2 years.

Only reason I got a nexus 9 is because I have an iphone. If I go back to an android phone I'll go back to ipad.

But yeah you're right. And it shows. Apple continues to be the one platform gaining market share.

I look forward to tne hilarious comparisons showing off how weak the apple knockoff is in comparison.

News looks good though.

I already have feedly.

Curious about music. It has a locker part so its not useless. Now to see how its playlists functionality is like.

I feel like Apple's version of Google Now not looking through your e-mail makes it basically less useful in getting you information you'd want at any particular time such as flight info, tracking a package, etc...

I imagine Apple could link those things to apps, but those are more apps that are required to be installed on a phone.

Yeah, I think MS ended up with the best personal assistant/predictive interest engine, but obviously nobody uses that platform and you can't integrate as deeply as the first party solution on either dominant platform.
