Android |OT5| The Sonic Cycle

Huh? Was I referring to you in any way?

Look I specifically mentioned “general vibe”. Hell, just look at this page alone and the incessant talk of OEM skins lol. That’s just seems to the general vibe I get everytime I stopped by to catch up on thread.

What made you think I was referring to you specifically? Was it because I offered sounder advice to CheRamsay re G3 vs S5, and you feel somewhat salty? LOL whatever helps you sleep at night man. Looks like I struck a nerve somewhere.
huh? I said WE'VE been doing nothing but. Meaning this thread. Not me lol. In fact when chef ramsay asked his question I said G3 all the way. Which is good advice. You seem like the angry one but I'll chalk it up to you not reading the thread much which you said yourself.

do we expect any real improvement this or next year on any smartphone ? Maybe finger print scanner using screen instead of a button place like now.?
We will probably see the usual marginal improvements on cameras i guess but nothing else. Even Note 5 seems to be powered by the same SoC as the S6 unlike previous times that used to have a more advanced one

Usb c seems to be the thing for the year. Even scanners aren't standard in android yet. See G4.

Shirt of a Nexus or Sony going the moto route there's nothing worth buying this year

Maybe if the camera on the Note 5 is something awesome , or the next Nexus has real multitasking and a great camera, but so far i cannot see any device beating my nexus4, only thing i don't like is the slow camera compared to GS6. That seemed to be fixed in a vid from a 5.1 update that someone received in Russia though so...

Yes I know you did, which was why I bothered to reply as your advice re G3 having better battery struck me as odd considering his #1 gripe was battery life.

if those are the choices then it's a no brainer G3 purchase for bettery battery and whatnot.

That's just bad advice imo. You're welcome to dispute that battery life if you wish.

This is still the year of skip phone wise.

Waiting out to see if there will be any tablet that's viable at a Nexus 7 replacement before buying the Asus one. Even if the Nexus 9 gets price cuts, I don't know about how I feel only being able to get 32 GB max. And you're charging that kind of price for it Google? Shame.

Not even then. Sammy still released the s6 with a memory leak which they'll do again with the n5

We've had this discussion a while ago. It might be my lack of imagination, but I think smart phones are pretty much done in terms of innovation. We're going to see some few gimmicks here and there (like the rumored iris scanner in the next Lumia flagships), but big jumps are done. In the next two years we might see fingerprint readers embedded in the touch screen digitizer, which should help with the footprint of the device, but in the end it's going to be thinner and lighter and may have better battery life. We're going to see bigger jumps with smart watches, though. But that's because there's more potential for improvement (and it doesn't solve the issue with the lack of use cases for the majority of people).

Anticipating another skip year.

I don't buy OEM models any longer, so its Nexus for me. The main issues I have with the Nexus line are software related (camera options and speed, battery life, added features like multi window). Those can be improved on the N6 moving forward (or through community support).

On the hardware side, I'm too much a sucker for the contrast and black levels gained with an OLED panel (even if its mid range in quality) and I think 6" is too hard to give up (my Note 2 feels small now). The stereo speakers are just icing.

Unless those two things are also present on the rumored Nexus devices later this year, a better camera sensor, USB-C, and finger print reader won't be things I'm willing to trade up for.

The 805 chip set isn't showing any signs of aging either, but we'll what kind of power saving benefits come as a result of moving to a new soc. I'm sure Google will find a way to mitigate it regardless.

I'm kinda baffled why we've not seen some progress in other areas this year. As soon as it became obvious that the processor space was a disaster I thought manufacturers might retreat from spec porn and fix some of the features that aren't standard enough on Android phones - have lots of models with fingerprint scanner support ready for Android M, work on battery and work on camera. And we're just not seeing it. OEMs are fiddling while Rome burns instead.

Sony are doing some nice things but not addressing their shitty cameras, LG/HTC are parked in reverse, Samsung made some nice hardware but massively overprice it and are trapped by a legacy userbase who might not let them retreat from their crapware, and nobody is sorting out the soft feature list.

I don't think a 7 inch tablet with a fingerprint scanner and an update schedule is such a ludicrous ask. I don't think a 4.5 inch smartphone with a fingerprint scanner is such a ludicrous ask. I don't think getting better at software updates is such a ludicrous ask in 2015. None of them are happening fast enough.

Well since its a skip year, wtf should I use my upgrade on in Jan? I still like my note 3, but lollipop kinda bogged it down.

Note 5 won't be that outdated. I think the Note 6 following it a year from now will probably only have a slightly bigger screen and USB C.

But yeah. I just plan on getting the lg nexus unlocked (assuming it's real and doesn't suck) and then sitting on my upgrade until something worthy comes out. If the huawei nexus is truly mindblowing I'll consider it but it's a super longshot for me.

So yeah, Note 5 or wait for the S7 are really your main choices I think.

The Nexus 6 is a great phone the only thing I hate about it is it's stupid ass increasing speaker "Feature"

the great phone that no one bought :p

I'll admit it wasn't bad if you ignore the fact that it's ridiculously huge but that combined with the price point is pretty much the reason it didn't do well at all.

But hey if you're into big phones then it was close to a dream phone.

I did D: but that's cause I had money to burn after chrimbo and I didn't read up about the N6 just went out and bought it. I could have gotten Google Glass instead but didn't xD 2 days later Google announced the Discontinuation of Glass.

But I like the N6 and large phones in general - Had a Xperia Z Ultra for a while it loved that phone but screen got damaged. but I will agree typing on them is a real bitch.

EDIT: Lol Oneplus can't even do a reservation list properly multiple people (me included) signed up at 30,000-40,000 and my number on the list is 130,000 -_- well there goes getting one of those.

Sad part is that it's so close.

Hi guys – question, has anyone here tried going with a data only plan? As in like, getting an off contract SIM card that just sells data on a month to month basis, and using something like a Google number for calls and texts.

Just wondering how it is and if it's consistent/reliable enough because I might be interested in switching to that in the future. I'm on an AT&T contract right now, did the math of a data only plan & buying non-subsidized phones, realized how much ridiculously cheaper it would be.

You rang? Honestly I don't get why people hated on me for hyping the Moto X; Outside of the Nexus, it's still one of the best Android phones to own.

lol I didn't hate on you that much - fwiw, my 2014 Moto X is probably one of the best purchases I've made in Android land

I still think the Moto X this year could be decent BUT the lack of fingerprint sensor this late in the game is kind of a dealbreaker for me personally.

At this for me, after using the iPhone and S6, fingerprint has become necessary in any future phone for me.

Wireless charging I can't give two hoots about, though.

the mods on the OP forums have gone literally power mad after these leaked

They are deleting posts left and right even if you don't mention the leak or post the link in the leak tread which they haven't locked up XD
