Android |OT5| The Sonic Cycle

Motorola said they not gonna try again after the Atrix.
it shows

We're about to hit two years since Apple put a fingerprint sensor on their flagship device, and this is where we're at:

Samsung S6 - Yep
LG G4 - Nope
HTC One M9 - Nope
Motorola X Style - Nope
OnePlus 2 - Yep
Samsung Note 5 - Yep
Sony James Bond 007 Xpectre 45-year-old Abs Edition - ???
Nexus - Probably?
Moto has always been ghetto but LG and HTC...huge fail by them. Also huawei nexus definitely has a fingerprint scanner.

lol OP put a fingerprint sensor in their phone but not NFC in the year that android pay was revealed.

Lol I was thinking that was some kind of mistake or whatever. Is was really a thing they actually did? Wow

Btw could it be that Moto didn't put a fingerprint 'cause of the dual speakers? Is there actually a way to put both in front without making a huge bezel? And no, don't put in the back of the phone. That would be so counterintuitive.

I'm a business with Android phones.
OEM has never released an update.
Security vulnerability comes out.
I'm supposed to install cyanogenmod?

So stagefright is the global media playback engine, and it's more vectors than MMS. You could get to a "media file" through the browser, e.g., which autoplays. Good news is apparently that later Android version (5, 5.1) have introduced greater sandboxing, so you may be safer. Bad news is that any malformed media file could get /su access and fuck around.

That Blackhat presentation next week has a lot of hype around it.

Poor celebrities that use Android(there are some right?) are screwed if they have any nudes.

Certainly a reason to choose a phone maker with timely security updates #nexus

Of course one wonders why even Google has not pushed the patches given what this article says:

http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...ed-via-text-message-according-to-researchers/

And that just reminds me of my ipod touch (and I guess my Mac) thats stuck vulnerable (to other security issues) because security updates stopped. I guess what we need is everyone to go for Microsofts (common) 10 year support plan.

Can you do the lock screen texting vulnerability that iphone does on Android using Google Now? I refuse to tie twitter to my phone to see for myself.
Typically, in terms of risk exposure, an attack that requires the endpoint (in this case, the phone) to be in the attacker's hands is considered to be less risky. So even if there was a case, I wouldn't be concerned about it.

Unless you're hiding something from your girlfriend.

Idea being that if the endpoint is in the attacker's hands, you've already lost.

It's why the myriad of USB exploits are sort of shrugged over.

The problem ain't android, OEMs are. Even with all the hate they get, Samsung are probably the most coherent OEM at least when considering their flagships: sure they have touchwiz (a problem for power users but not a real issue for most) but they provide the best hardware.
If sony or htc or motorola can't put their shit together why blame google? Google has done some stupid things, and will probably keep doing them, but they are only responsible for their Nexus line.

At least there's choice. As someone pointed out before, NFC wasn't available for iphones and is still limited in functionality, and the same could be said for big screens, they had to wait until late 2014 to go bigger than 4 inches, something android or WP users have been enjoying for years now.

People who want small phones are like people who want hardware keyboard phones.

I don't understand this argument. Touchscreen keyboards got better over the years and the footprint of the device got smaller, while increasing the screen real estate.

But my hands and pockets won't get bigger over the years to accommodate comically large clown phones.

Man, still salty OP2 fingerprint sensor but no NFC, Moto X no fingerprint sensor but NFC.. how in the hell, bros.

Save us pls Google, N5-2 for $350 with nice specs, 1080p, and Android Pay as seemless as Apple Pay.

My hands are small, so I appreciate smaller devices from an ergonomic standpoint.

The vast majority of my direct interaction with my phone is browsing the web/ using apps as these are usually better with bigger screens - the more compromises I am willing to make.

I thought my nexus s was perfect then I used my lg g2 my definition if perfect grew now I want to start reading more books I want a 5.7" at least.

That's what I use my tablet for, and I don't keep it in my jeans pockets...

Well, the Moto Play will cost ~400€ here in Spain. Does not bode well for the Style. We also don't have Moto Maker and the only Moto G version available is the 1GB one. That means Motorola's current offerings are out of question for me.

Will wait for battery and camera reviews for the OP2, and decide between that or wait for the new Nexus 5.

The vast majority of my direct interaction with my phone involves typing, and that's physically painful on larger phones.

It's really quite simple.

I want a big screened phone. I'm definitely worried about typing though. Moving to the N5 from the 4 was difficult at first, especially with a tiny keyboard like Fleksy, but you get used to it. The 5.7" of the X Style seems like a nice sweet spot. The Moto outing this year is stellar.

100% Ex Machina.

As everyone else said, not Lucy.

Moto event was pretty disappointing overall. The lack of high end size diversity continues to be crazy, there's not actually much evidence the cameras aren't more of the same past the megapixel porn, and not getting fingerprint scanners on most phones is really a dropped ball at this point.

Precisely my point when my tablet is not with me my phone has to deputise and I would rather compromise my phone than have to carry my tablet everywhere.

Well that's not a compromise I'm willing to make : my phone is more often in my pocket than in my hand, most of the time a phone is idle, not used.

Why SD410 instead of 610-5 on Moto G? I understand both are CPU comparable (A53) en even the 410 on the G seems 'overclocket to 1.4GHz close to 615 speeds (1,5-1,7Ghz) but GPU is really uncapable these days. At 229 there are a number of better devices, AScend G7, M4 aqua, P8 Lite, BQ M5....

edit: on the other hand it seems most android flaships , well except for HTC and somehow Sony ,despite providing sensors for almost all relevant smartphones, have great cameras. So it took a while but.. at least is something

Don't lash out.

Better to admit he's right and add that you just haven't evolved to accommodate the better hardware available.

Its embarrassing to see such small hand insecurities

:-(

I'm actually fine with a big phone in my hands. It's when I have to put it in my pocket or sit down where it will just be annoying. I don't need a screen that big with me at all times. I have a tablet at home when I want a bigger screen. I want my phone to be the perfect blend of mobility and usefulness and at 5 inches I find my phone to be most useful. I feel like the inconvenience to benefit ratio is out of whack for ~5.7 inch phones. I'm open minded to it. Lets say the huawei nexus comes out and it's a monster phone and has pretty slim bezels and there is no 5-2 or it sucks. I'd consider it.

Great looking and feeling hardware

Least or no bloat in their software

Lower clockspeed means it is more efficient. 1.5 is the maximum clockspeed ARM recommends for the A53 and the higher clocked ones are known to overheat. The lower the clockspeed the more efficient per watt it is. A smaller GPU also means less power draw and the screen is just 720p.

I'm pretty sure battery is the main reason.

The salty comments from Sony UI fans on there are wonderful. I had no idea that was a thing.

The actual current skin is so close that it doesn't even look that different, IMO. If you really want the old ugly icons then launcher them.

Like I say, the only things that appear to be unlikeable there are the volume control losing functionality and I can see how some people would say the current order of the settings menu is better.

Got a nexus 6. Really loving it. Wanted a big screen, so its perfect.

Just need to find a solid case for it now. Don't want it to break like my nexus 5 😢
