Pretty much my only problem with the game has been answered. I figured I would upgrade if they put out a new Switch at some time, but didn't want to lose my AC data in the move.

That save data answer is worrying.

no cloud saving is bullshit

They say it doesn't use the cloud save feature, and yet it apparently does write your save game to their server, which they will use to restore your save in the event of a defective or lost console.

It's a classic security problem. They remove features in order to preserve experience by preventing you from manipulating the game via save backups. Does it stink? Yeah... Is it stupid? Actually, no, it's kind of cultural. Producing experiences and preserving them is important in Japan. They're not big on the Burger King motto, "Have it your way."

I'm happy. I haven't played an Animal Crossing game since the GCN, but this looks really cool. Really chill. I can look forward to visiting my getaway island a couple of times each day, which is awesome. I like a little variety.

But pokemon supports this.

no normal user can scam the system with this. As your savegame is DELETED on the old one. No swapping back,
switch modders will still screw around with the code.
and actual owners are fucked now.
Esp if you bought the more portable lite next to your old switch.

Yeah, I think they should attempt to give us some official explanation to explain whatever technical hurdle is causing them to go this course. If they would just come out and say that they chose to rely on a hardware UID of some sort to seed some in-game mechanisms, I could at least accept that they may patch the game to accept moving the save. It just doesn't seem sufficient to block you from moving your save file.

This is classic Nintendo. For Animal Crossing, they're still wanting to treat your game device as if it doesn't leave home. You know, for a while I was convinced that Nintendo would make Pokemon a game that can only be played undocked to preserve the traditional Pokemon experience! Now that would have been STUPID.
