Anyone skipped the Wii U but excited for the NX?

I think people think it debunks it because of how Nintendo's trying to keep everything secret and some other guys made something identical to the basic sketches eurogamer released, so if they've got something like that out there, there's no reason for Nintendo to keep it so secret. That's the only logic I can attach to the theory anyway.

This is interesting... Not only the Morphus isn't something new to discuss but people considering it of any relevance are doing so from a very superficial point of view.

Functionaly speaking the Morphus Bluethooth controllers are the equivalent of something like this product, which btw was unveiled late 2012:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdJBvk4OJ9g

Both serve the exact same purpose, the reason Morphus is splitted is to save space yet lacks the added benefit of an additional battery to power the device. But functionaly speaking? Equivalent.

Now what detachable controllers (assuming the rumors are correct) would bring in functionality to the NX:
  • Free Degrees of Freedom Motion controller like a Wii Remote. Akun doesn't use IMUs in their sliding controllers.
  • Local multiplayer out of the box. Did Akun demoed this functionality?
  • Controller customization.
  • The way it interfaces with the device and potentially how it reads the button inputs in case it uses an IR sensor.
Basically the implementations of the "same" split detachable controllers would put the 2 products in different realms in terms of functionality. Not to mention the implications the use of IRS(s) would have in controller design.

i mean, just the way the user interacts with the TV when the device is docked is worlds appart... well in theory, we are speaking based on rumors after all.

Had that last generation. I loved all consoles and handhelds prior to the Wii, but I never had any hype for the little white thing. I ended up skipping Wii entirely as it only got like 5 decent games during it's lifetime and I hated the waggle controls.

The couple of years break from Nintendo games also means that Wii U feels absolutely awesome to me.

I hope the Eurogamer rumor is wrong. I don't want it to be wrong because of the hybrid-I just want to be really surprised.

Imagine expecting a hybrid and Nintendo reveals the NX and it's completely something different. Minds could be blown! If their rumor is right it's fine too.

pretty much no chance the "rumors" on what the thing essentially is are wrong.

best you could hope for is other features like haptic feedback or whatever. silver lining to me is there's the launch/launch window games should be killer, assuming they're taking advantage of all the time they had

Bumping this thread now that the NX (Switch) has been shown officially.

I'm very impressed with what Nintendo has shown today.

Really liking the hybrid concept and the third party support list bodes well for the future of the console.

Def a day 1 purchase for me.

I was a diehard Nintendo fan growing up, always had Nintendo consoles and never had competing ones. But they lost me with the Wii and Wii U. The Switch has me super excited for what Nintendo can do by focusing 100% of their efforts on one platform that does it all. I will start saving today and get this as soon as possible if favorable details continue to come out.

Yep. I sold my Wii for a backwards compatible PS3 after owning the Wii maybe a year or two. Dumped way too much money into it on digital virtual console stuff. Skipped Wii U due to that GamePad.

I skipped the wiiU, i'm not sure about the NX. That video presents all these scenarios that I just don't see happening

The portable aspect of it? Have. DS+Vita and both rarely get played so I know portable gaming isn't my scene

Skipped wiiu but not sold on NS either. Really don't care for how close it is to a super WiiU you can take on the go. I don't really take stuff on the go as it is....but I would be more inclined to with a better controller and screen. I just can't play on a vita or 3ds

We'll see..

Like always it will depend on how well third party support materialises as its rare I actually buy a Nintendo console for Nintendo games. This is why the 3DS appealed to me and the Wii U didn't.

I didn't skip the Wii U but mine didnt last long. I hated the cheap tablet feel and pretty much shitty use of the touch screen. The Switch looks to be better in every way though but I need to see what type of power we're talking about here when docked and undocked.

Awesome this is what nintendo needed to streamline their processes. Imagine playing advance wars, pokemon, and all the other stuff in only one system. isnt that great?

So a big reason you skipped the WiiU was because of the game pad but are now excited about Switch?

This makes my head hurt. Seriously someday someone is going to have to make a detailed presentation on just what was so vexing about the WiiU controller to gamers for me to understand it.

The WiiU was too good for this world.

Absolutely interested in it. Love the portable stuff. Not so much because I'll be taking it outside(though I fly a lot so that will be nice) but because I like the ability to relax with a game in bed while girlfriend studies. I avoid using the television because it distracts her too much, so portable stuff is always better.

Skipped the Wii U because the tablet seemed kinda ugly to me. This tablet feels like it could replace my "literally only exists to read ebooks when my kindle isn't around/play youtube videos" tablet, so that's another thing it has going for it. Overall pretty happy with what we know so far, unless there's like a MAJOR misstep before release I'm totally gonna get it.
