Essentially free/trial MobileMe.
Also the new painting app SketchBook by AutoDesk is frackin' amazing. Eventhough the icon is ugly as sin. Much, much better than Brushes. Needs a couple UI refinements but on the whole, it's excellent. There's a trial version.

It does take awhile to sync sometimes, so perhaps leave the app open longer and make sure it's done checking all your accounts?mattiewheels said:i love it, but it's always missing any recent transactions going back a couple of days. i thought it syncs with your account so it could be completely current...

No way I'm spending that kind of money, but the screens look like it requires a special splitter to output two seperate mono channels, one for each source. Unless you're plugging your iPhone into an amp with a cross fader, I don't see the use for this app at all.Shaneus said:Does anyone have any impressions on Touch DJ for the iPhone? I'm curious to see how well it works as a DJ music player, but not $23.99AU curious.
No, you don't need to split the channels. You CAN do it to prelisten to the mix (the most important feature when mixing music).AVclub said:No way I'm spending that kind of money, but the screens look like it requires a special splitter to output two seperate mono channels, one for each source. It's awesome to see people still being mindblower by the iPhone - it's an amazing device. Now imagine that people were being mindblower over two years ago! I remember Steve announced it saying it was at least 5 years ahead of the competition.
What?Epic Tier 3 Engineer said:Quick question: is there a difference in speed using an iPhones web browser or an iPod touch via WiFi? And about how quick is the Touch's browser? Is it even useful?
Speed in browsing? I'd say they're the same. The newer iPhone 3gs and 16gb+ iPod touch are much smoother in transitions an stuff due to more ram and processor speed. They feel more responsive, but I don't think any of them are particularly faster wifi-wise (that's bot normally the limiting factor for rendering speed).Epic Tier 3 Engineer said:Quick question: is there a difference in speed using an iPhones web browser or an iPod touch via WiFi? Kinda leaning toward an iPod touch since I need an MP3 player more than anything. Wanted a Zune HD but the lack of apps is a bummer.

This is pretty much what I believe too, actually I mostly meant to ask for a confirmation but ended up making a general question just to be sure.mrkgoo said:The app design is such that each app is sandboxes - runs in its own little environment. As soon as you hit the home button, it kills the processes. As far sI understand also, it can't write to other areas outside its own dedicated save areas without calling Apple approved APIs. Well, at least that's how I imagine.

The pic is obviously a mock-up (as in a joke mock-up). There's no way they'll have apps look like that.

I only say that because my cousin was trying to use it to go on Ebay and it was slow as hell. Granted, it would be infinitely cool to have something to do while sitting around at school, so if it works as advertised, great!mrkgoo said:Pfft. "Is it useful?".
There's no denying it's slower at rendering, but for a phone to show the real web was a big deal.Epic Tier 3 Engineer said:I only say that because my cousin was trying to use it to go on Ebay and it was slow as hell. Zaraki_Kenpachi said:Has anyone tried Air Mouse Pro? Looks like an awesome concept if it actually works like it says.
mrkgoo said:Accelerometer mouse?
No thanks.
For the life of me, for a wireless trackpad, Touchpad Elite (from the maker of Jugaari VNC) is awesome. Has been out for ages, and pretty much duplicates a MacBook Pro trackpad (although 4-fingers becomes three, and three becomes two, but it retains 2-finger scrolling). Well thought out, because the mouse pointer becomes momentum controlled. And best of all - it works with Mac OS X WITHOUT extra software - it uses the screen sharing tech built-in since Leopard.
Zaraki_Kenpachi said:You don't have to use accelerometer you can just use it as a trackpad/keyboard. It supports multi touch gestures in landscape also.
Edit: The no install thing is cool though.
mrkgoo said:Yeah, I know it's not an exclusively accelerometer, but that's the main feature that separates that from Touchpad Elite. Touchpad elite has gestures in both landscape/portrait. It uses 'tap' to click, and basically melds the iPhone user interface with the MacBook trackpad to mostly great effect.
Pinch, for example, activates the ctrl+scroll 'fake' zoom on the Mac - which is normally crap, but if you're far away from your Mac (and you are if you're using this app), this is helpful. Of course it means you lose whatever the pinch gesture is on Mac OS X.
I just think TouchPad elite does the basics really well. Depends on what you want out of the app. I like to use it as a one handed trackpad (with my thumb).
Yeah, it has a keyboard. It just brings up the default iPhone one. I'm pretty sure Air mouse has more features overall, but I like the simplicity of Touchpad Elite. It just connects to MAc OS X's screen sharing, and does its thing.Zaraki_Kenpachi said:The touchpad elite doesn't have a keyboard right? The big draw for me was to be able to go to a stream somewhere to watch without having to get off my bed.

When running, it has a 'menu bar' which has four icons that toggle the functions:
Settings (not many)
Modifiers keys: pressing this puts up the four modifier keys (shift, ctrl, option, command) for use while you are clicking.
Clicker: brings up a four way control, which I assume works more like the Apple remote
Keyboard: Brings up the iPhone keyboard for entering text.
It's not overly packed with features, but works for the most part. Not sure if Air Mouse Pro uses the mac os x gestures (like two finger scroll, expose, etc.)
Zaraki_Kenpachi said:Maybe I'll try the one you mentioned since it's cheaper and has a keyboard also. The not having to install a program to use it is a plus. Does it use bluetooth or something? I don't need wifi right?
mrkgoo said:I don't think you can use bluetooth. You need wifi - you don't need a router, so long as you can setup a peer-to-peer network. You have a Mac, right? Then the mac has wifi.
Air mouse pro looks nice, and seems to have a few more things - like a separate scroll 'wheel', and mouse buttons and stuff, but I like touchpad because it works pretty much like the mac trackpad. Just checking, it seems that the 3-finger gestures are changed - 3-finger swipe up becomes 'remove menu bar on iphone', and 3-finger left and right is the app switcher, so I guess you have to say good bye to forward/back in safari.
Air mouse appears to have a dedicated 'web remote'.
I guess put it this way - touchpad works like a wireless touchpad, whereas Air mouse Pro is a bit of that, and a bit of 'multifunction remote'.
Zaraki_Kenpachi said:How do you make peer to peer for a mac and a touch?
mrkgoo said:It's a Mac - easy peasy. Click on the wifi icon in your menubar. Click "Create Network" (give it a name and a password).
Click on that name on your iPod touch in the wifi section, connect, and enter password.
Note, you don't HAVE to do this with the Air mouse or touchpad apps - they work simply if you're on the same network.
You can even turn your mac into a wireless router. Go to System Preferences -> Sharing. Click on "internet sharing" and give your network a name and password. Voila, joining that with your iPod touch will give you internet access on your touch.
