Apple September Event 2017 |OT| A Top-Notch Keynote

No. I just did everything on Apple's site. I never fucked w the Citizen's One account I just get billed on my CC.

Yeah it auto populated it in my Apple Store app.

What country do you live in and how did you buy your phone? Did you go to the Apple Store, have a credit check and had them put a credit card on file?

If for whatever reason your phone isn't showing up it has to be an error on Apple's end. I've never heard of people getting 24 month financing without being on the IUP.

My prediction:

Series 3 with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth only debuts at Series 2 price. Series 2 replaced Series 1 price-wise.

Series 3 with LTE for $100 or whatever more than the non-LTE model, just like with the iPads.
This is a better prediction than mone btw. Maybe mine was more wish-casting lol

I'm in the US and I completed my entire transaction on the site, which did include a credit check.

Ohhhhhhh

iPhone Installments is very different from the iPhone Upgrade Program. Locked for 24 months, no AppleCare+, and no early upgrade. It's just a normal payment plan

I didn't even know that was an option.

You can't pay out early? If you could you could prob make most of what you paid at once by reselling.

Apple Pay does not require biometrics, you can use it on an iPhone with just a passcode. It sucks, but is totally possible. Biometrics just make it easy. TouchID is not necessary for authentication for the watch.

Sorry, you're correct. "TouchID" has been used in place of the "secure element" erroneously. That is what is required to authenticate Apple Pay on Apple Watch upon first setup, along with a camera (as it will not set up an unknown card without a photograph of it, for obvious reasons) or an iTunes account activated on the phone with a listed card on file and its CVV number. The initial loading of the cards onto the Apple Watch still requires an iPhone that can properly communicate to the watch's secure element.

With the X potentially going over the £1000/$1000 mark is that putting people off this year? Is it too much to pay out for a phone?

If I had 1000 dollars to spend on a phone, I wouldn't think it's too much. But at the moment, it's too much, for me. It's all subjective. Do I wish it was cheaper? Hell yeah. Does it bother me that it's 1k or more? No. I can live without having it.

YAY FINALLY!

You don't need to photograph the card on setup, you can enter all details manually. When it contacts the bank to assign a device account number that's when it knows whether the information is valid or not.

I'm not disagreeing with any of this by the way, Apple Pay as it currently stands is impossible to set up from the watch alone. Doesn't mean it can't ever be done, but at the moment, once the card is on the watch it could potentially stay out of range of the phone for days and still work, authenticating with the phone through LTE

Doesn't Apple Pay on the watch work like this: you authenticate the watch to make purchases with touchID/faceID and as long as you don't take the watch off your wrist, it's authenticated to make purchases? Not sure though. Remember reading something to this effect somewhere, but I wouldn't be surprised if I had read it wrong. We don't even support Apple Pay in Finland. :(

Or is this even what you're talking about, cuz I am confused.

You need an iPhone to set it up but once done it is completely independent. I haven't had an iPhone for about 3 weeks now and I still use apple pay on my watch. Just needs the unlock code when you put it on, and then as long as our don't take it off you can pay for stuff with a double press of the side button

kind of thinking about the new apple watch, depending on price/how the LTE business works out.

I rocked a 38mm SS for a year on a daily basis but kind of shelved it the year after, rarely taking it out.

Zeyphersan (or anyone who has done the IUP last year), when choosing the new phone you want to upgrade to, do you just select one to purchase like normal then specify that you're on the IUP? Or do you have to go through the steps to check your phone eligibility and be led to a specific upgrade page?

Well, I clearly missed that section where it asks you if you want to enter it manually. Couldn't imagine keying that in on a watch, though , and I can barely get my passcode entered on that screen, hence why I set it up to unlock the watch when I unlock my phone after putting it on. Never mind using text-to-speech, Siri and I have many disagreements about how I'm spelling things, especially names.

There is a link on the IPhone page on the Apple Store for the IUP. The next page has a link to enroll in the program.

Right, hence why I'm not actually disagreeing with you.

I'm already enrolled. I'm just curious how I go about choosing my new phone that'll replace my current one.

You can practice it right now. Go and pretend you're buying an iPhone 7 and follow the prompts, it'll all be there. I've done it a few times but always back out because I'm afraid I'll get too far and actually use my upgrade

My annual upgrade through Apples programme is due on October 12th (Deliberately waited till then so I can avoid the hell of getting a new iPhone in launch month.)

Do we think its likely the iPhone X will be released by then, or are people getting the impression it could be later than that?

Really depends on what those monthly payments are going to be. My iPhone 7S Plus 32gb is £40 a month, and I think im willing to pay £60 a month at most. We shall see. If its ridiculous I will just get an 8.

I assume pre-orders will start on the 15th, it's just shipping that might be happening later. But it would be kinda crazy if they didn't ship a single one a month after announcing them tbh.

That's actually why I was hesitant lol. Just tried it though and found the step that asks if you're part of the program already. Thanks.

Probably not. it'll be supply constrained anyway so I doubt those who want it would all be able to get their hands on it.

True, I am hearing lots of production trouble rumors so it passed my mind. Its probably still gonna be a nightmare getting one reserved around that time. Ughhhhhh

It would be the only streaming box that does HDR10 and Dolby Vision, right? Or does the Chromecast Ultra do both?

Chromecast Ultra does both HDR10 and Dolby Vision over HDMI 2.0a. but the app support to do it might be a question. I don't know what HDR support there is for the Google Play videos.

Yeah you can pay it off early.

I took the 0% plan in the UK last year without the upgrade option, you can call the loan provider and pay the remaining to end the agreement. I assume it'll be the same in the US

Such a shame that TouchID won't be there. But I feel like the face ID implementation will be good enough to make us forget... It better works with Apple Pay world wide though...

If anyone is doing a bingo board you'd be a fool to not include "console quality gaming" and "the biggest leap since the original iPhone"

I can’t find any info for what HDR Google Play uses. Netflix uses both on various titles, VUDU uses exclusively Dolby Vision, and I think Amazon Prime only does HDR10?

Don’t know what iTunes will use, maybe whatever the studios provide. It’ll just be nice to have a box that plays nice with the two leading standards

When I saw 5pm GMT I thought I'd have to sneak out of work early, but thanks to the power of Daylight Savings Time, it's 6pm in the UK!

I have a problem with the IUP.
I signed up to the IUP for my 7 plus last year but I returned the phone within the time limit. I'm looking to start again for the iPhoneX but my account still says I'm in the IUP and asks for the serial number and last four of my IMEA.
Help?

Uh... have you been getting charged for it this entire year?

When you try and get a new phone it asks you if you want to enroll or if you already are. If you say you already are that’s when it asks your for the serial/IMEI. If you say you want to enroll it doesn’t

I'll take it that the lack of Mac Mini leaks means the rumours of a refresh/new model were bollocks. Guess it's time to Hackintosh.

Not interested in a new phone as my 6S is still working almost as well as when I bought it two years ago, but I'll watch this anyway, interested to see the new tech. Shame about the probable loss of TouchID, but hopefully they don't say they're ditching it entirely, I'd hope to be able to buy a phone with it next year when I upgrade. My experience with face auth on Windows has been okay, so seeing Apple's take on the tech is probably going to be the highlight here.
