Apple September Event 2017 |OT| A Top-Notch Keynote

Hoping to finally upgrade my 16gb 5S. I've bene hanging onto it for a while waiting for the new line of phones to come out. Don't think I can justify $1000 for the X but hoping the 8 isn't too much more than the current line of phones.

For those of you who have the + model, ever had a time where you felt it was too big? I've been wanting a bigger phone, just not sure if I will wind up hating how large the + is.

I'm nervous about buying a super expensive product that cracks so easily. Think I might just get the 8.

If I end up getting the X, this will be the first time I get AppleCare+.

I've never had an issue. I have Trump hands and it's been alright.

I have noticed that if I'm doing anything for any extended period of time (longer than just checking my screen or pulling up Google Maps or something) I'll use two hands. But it's just something I've adjusted to. Smaller phones hit my palm in a really uncomfortable spot. I recently went back to my wife's iPhone 5 from my 6+ (gave it to my brother who was in town) and this thing kills my hand.

I am a little over six feet tall with reasonably large hands. The plus is okay, top left corner is a stretch with one hand (if you are right handed), maybe the Q on the portrait keyboard as well. But otherwise fine.

Going from a 5S to a 6 felt like a jump for me in terms of size. Going to a Plus sized phone might be quite jarring. Saying that, I feel like I'm ready to go for a Plus now!

man this thing looks so sexy and fluid and i love it but at $1000 I just can't justify it when I won't use it for anything different than what a smartphone at half the price can do.. i want one but I can't bring myself to pay more than like $600 for a phone

No comparison because iPhones are extremely recognizable and popular

A lot of people will end up getting robbed for that $1000 phone, unfortunately.

People are already running around with just as easily recognizable 700-900$ phones, why should 1000$ be the magic number that suddenly makes everybody more likely to rob you?

If you're willing to wait a few months you can by iPhones or Android flagship phones for much cheaper if you're doing off contract. With this X phone though, it will probably carry a high price for a while.

I hope that the X model is just a premium "preview" kinda thing and next year's iPhone 9 or whatever adopt the changes made in the X at a more affordable price.

my guess is, "sort of?" This is most definitely apple raising the ASP of iphone. However yeah next year's X model (almost certainly X2 or such) likely won't see more than $100-200 reduction in price. My guess is apple is looking for at least a $150 bump at the top end, made up for with a wider range of pricing at the bottom end (almost positive a current SKU $400 iPhone is here to stay).

Are high end smartphones robbings/theft really that prevalent? All you can do with them is selling for parts after all (pretty sure Apple as well as Samsung have activation lock by default). Unless you find some idiot who buys it without checking first of course

So my iPhone 7 is half paid off at Verizon, and if I pay it off I will be eligible for upgrade.

How does this work if I want to start Apple's upgrade program? Do I pay it off first at Verizon, or will that option be available on the Apple site when preorders open up?

I don't think so. I think next year they will introduce a bigger version of the X at an even higher price. And the base model will just be an SE or just an 8s at the current price point.

Only thing that might trickle down is the OLED display. Not the design and whatever else. I don't think you'll see any reduction in price for the X for 2-3 years. Unless it bombs atomically.

It’s alsays funny running your iPhone next to their budget phone, and seeing it destroy them. They can’t defend themselves for shit.

Coworker does this but she's weird. She keeps on talking about her Blu Tracphone and how she doesn't pay monthly and her phone is just as good as mine when taking pictures (it absolutely does not). But she also probably can't see well and says VHS/DVD is fine and Blu Ray is a waste.

I suspect the situation will be similar to the iPad. They introduced iPad Pro as "something new", a higher tier product they could charge more money for. And it still is.

What's the best way to watch this on an Xbox One? Edge Browser? Or can I use DLNA/UPnP apps from my iphone?

edit: Twitch app! Doh!

As far as I know, if it's paid off at 50% at VZW, you are eligible to upgrade to the next iPhone.

As far as your question about using the Apple upgrade program while still owing on your VZW financed iPhone... I'm not totally sure and would love to have an answer to this question as well!

After months of rumors and leaks, I hope Apple can somehow impress us today. Hyped!

it'll all come down to how well face ID works in the end. Is it a filler feature till something better and more convenient is available or is it truly the next evolution in biometrics that will replace all things in the coming years.

I have a feeling it's the latter but how far did they get in this first iteration. That's what I'm most interested in seeing.

Yep. I think the easiest guess as to what the iPhones are going to settle into price-wise is what they've done with the iPad lineup—making a more affordable entry level with higher SKUs to push the ASP up.

iPhone X does seem a little unfinished so I’ll probably end up sticking with my current phone for another year. New Apple TV and Watch stuff has me hyped though.

I would think it has to work pretty much perfectly off the bat. I just can't see them releasing a product with a security feature that would be worse than Touch ID.

Frigging Apple TV. I bought into the hype from the last one and it's been such a damp squib. Don't get me wrong it does the stuff I need really well but it's clearly not what they were aiming for.

Plus the App store is a joke. It's the same old crap that's been propping up the store since launch and there's still no apps for ITV or Channel 4 on there. Hell, I'd have included Prime Video in that list if it wasn't (hopefully) coming out soon.

I struggle to see beyond 4k and HDR what they can actually show that would make it more worthwhile than the far cheaper likes of Amazon Fire TV.

Can someone please help me determine if this scenario is possible for me:

- I have an iPhone 7 Plus, that I would like to trade into Apple for store credit to put towards the new iPhone.

- I paid this phone in full, but want to hop on the iPhone Upgrade Program for the X to pay by installments.

- I want to be able to pre-order the X, sign up for the IUP and have the X delivered to me.

- Once I have the X, I would like to be able to go to an Apple Store and trade my 7 Plus in to put torwards the remaining balance of my X on installments.

Is this all possible?

Watching with interest. I'm ready to spring my upgrade so the X has gotta drop bombs and be available or I'm going with a note 8 I think. Kinda feeling tired with apple these days and fancy checking out something fresh but if the X is awesome I know I'm gonna just stick with apple again.

I sure hope so. If it's the latter, it will probably also mean that TouchID is not coming back next year (at least on the higher-end model).

I'm really hesitating for the first time

After a year on my 7+

-power don't matter much it's already too powerull for what I do. I play just mind games on my phone no 3D games at all
-photos are already perfect for me. Just for social media use ... don't need better camera

I'm interested in a bezel less iphone as I think the + is a bit big but it's still ok

First time I'm not that excited

This is pretty much me. Although I might be tempted by the siren call of animoji lol

I have been a huge cheerleader for FaceID on this forum over the last month. But yes, you are 100% on the nose. Apple set the bar with TouchID on the 5s. If FaceID isn't at least as reliable as the 5s TouchID implementation, it will be panned.

Fortunately the reports of "a few hundred milliseconds" bodes well as that is practically unnoticeable slower than TouchID right now (which seems to be around a couple hundred milliseconds)

but yeah, we basically have to be talking (numbers from my ass, but public perception of) almost instantaneous unlocking with 99.9% success rate (realistically 1/2 second or less, but definitely well above a 90% success rate)

My main concern with the X is how "invisible" the FaceID implementation will be to developers. If an app already supports TouchID, will FaceID just pop up instead, or do apps have to updated? Will developers have the option to keep Touch but disable Face?

Between personal and business, I have too many banking/financial apps that all work nicely with TouchID - it will drive me insane if I have to spend a year entering usernames and passwords while they all internally access FaceID and then eventually update.

Such a weird thing to have as a dealbreaker, but that'll be the deciding factor between X and 8S I think

It's a good place to be in. Nothing wrong with saving your money IMO.

Are animojis really expected to be exclusive to the X? :|

Was in a similar position to you last year. Owned an iPhone 6S Plus, wanted to join the IUP with an iPhone 7 and give them my 6S Plus.

Basically what they did was pay me for my old phone into my bank account. You can't use the phone as credit for your IUP because Apple use a third party credit company for all that.

Also, you have to reserve an appointment at an Apple Store and go in to set up your IUP and pick up your X there. You can't do it online/on phone. You will also need to bring ID with you.

To sum up: Go to Apple Store with your old phone, tell them you want X on IUP. They pay you for your old phone, set up your IUP and leave with your X the same day.

Facial recognition gon get niggas caught up more than TouchID did. Can't someone just unlock your phone while you're sleeping?
What stopped the same person from putting the phone on your finger while you're sleeping?

That's without considering the issue of it working in the dark which isn't guaranteed...personally, no one is turning on lights to use faceID without waking me up.

do we think the X will be a size between the 8 and 8S?

I kinda want something slightly smaller than my Plus, but not quite as small as the regular models.
