Earlier this week, a friend here at E! interviewed Jason Bateman at a charity event with his good friend Ben Stiller. When asked the status of Arrested Development, he lit up like a banana stand: "Actually, great. Supergreat. There is a heartbeat. There is no flatline. And there may be twins. I'm going to let Kristin figure out what that means. I can't comment any further, but there will be an announcement next week."

...

Though they're still dotting I's and crossing T's on the final documents, I'm told Fox network and 20th Century Fox studio are "99.9 percent of the way there" to reaching an agreement on the new season. According to these highly placed sources, it looks very likely that Arrested Development will be coming back not only for a full season of 22 episodes but actually two full seasons of 22 episodes. How freaking fantastic is that?

At press time, I can tell you this is precisely where the show's fate stands. So, barring any last-minute switch-a-roonies or bad acts by Satan or Rupert Murdoch, we will get glorious "twin" seasons of the best damn comedy on TV.

According to these insiders, even though the ratings weren't exactly American Idol numbers, Fox's new prez, Peter Liguori, bless his perceptive little heart, has faith that the show will do well in a different time slot. He also wants to bring AD up to the magical episode number required for syndication and feels the show will do very well in repeats and also in DVD. Can I get a "Hell, yeah!"?

Next week is fucking packed with awesomeness. I sure hope this is true.

Erm, not likely.

OMG. I always felt deep down that it would come back even remembering all my beloved shows that Fox has murdered on me, but this news is so good it freaks me out. I actually woke up my wife to read her your post, so it better be acurate or I'm dead. :lol

He's right, this is a show that could find a solid fanbase in syndication if nothing else. I really had written it off, I was certain this was the end.. what incredible news. Guess we shouldnt get TOO excited yet though.

I refuse to get my hopes up...... but OH GEE GOLLY THIS IS SURE EXCITING!!

I think Fox has a new game plan. Deliberately cancel good shows and then bring them back so instead of us remembering everything else they cancelled we love them for bringing stuff back.... those diabolical fuckers

this is truly great news, if true... Fox must have learned from Family Guy and started looking more at AD's season 1 DVD sales numbers, instead of relying solely on neilsens..

most consistently funny show since seinfeld. except for that episode with martin short-- i hate that guy.

i sure hope this is true, and the ratings improve with a better time slot.

I can't believe fox is going to do the right thing..

and the new fox prez is a genius (well, at least as smart as any of us) to finally realize that this show will cleanup in syndication ratings. funnier than seinfeld IMHO. put it at a 7:00 or 7:30 syndication slot and just watch the local ratings come in.

it's going to come out of you and it's going to taste so good
Woohoo!

And the president is a very smart guy, thinking long term. Shows that don't get blockbuster ratings can really clean up afterwards on DVD like Family Guy did. It's unusually forward thinking for a network executive.

The link has updated the story and now says that 2 full seasons were initially planned but the sources indicate that it'll be renewed for just one full season. Still, great news assuming it comes through. :) Yeah it's a rumour, but the fact that they asked Jason Batemen directly about the show and he responded so positively makes me pretty damn happy.

:lol My wife is watching S1 right now, "Best Man for The GOB". One of my top 5 S1 episodes I think... I can't wait for season 2. Do we have a street day for that yet? Hopefully they do it right again and have a good DVD set ready before the (again, knock on wood) start of the new season.

WHAT?!?

"Launch me!"

Anyway, this is potentially the best fucking news I've heard in weeks. I hope they hurry up and release the Season Two DVD set soon.

No shit. I have a few episodes on Tivo, but I want the entire season, dammit.
