Arrow Season 4 |OT| A Tale of Salt and Fire

Two episodes in, this season is already way better than last season. The characters are actually likeable again, and I'm thrilled Anarky is getting a multi episode arc, he's a totally underrated character.
Yeah, it's been such a huge improvement. Dour Diggle needs to go, though.

Hey, at least Diggle's motivation is clear and reasonable. Oliver napalmed their bromance over the course of the last season.

It'll be great when they're back on the same page, though. Their dynamic was at its best during season 1 and really helped the show in those early days.

What I noticed is that people are still keeping secrets, but they're at least telling someone else on the team within an episode. Laurel the new secretkeeper.

They need someone who will do things in the daylight.

They need...The Flash.

Like I don't understand why they don't call the Flash more often. I know he has his own problems but honestly I feel like he has the time pretty often, he spends a lot of his days just bein a dude, ya know? It doesn't take long to run there and dispose of a baddy or two, especially when shit is really going down in the city with evil mystical bad guys.

Hope the Supergirl OT is ready for the people who will, week after week, ask why she doesn't throw everything into the sun.

TBPF, I wasn't even sure I was gonna watch the show, but now, just for you, I'm gonna watch it, and every week I'll write out a 5 paragraph essay detailing how the episode could have been resolved if she just threw the baddy into the sun, and why it's dumb that she didn't.

Lol, no I won't, I'm much too lazy.

You don't have the guts.

Because they've been thrown into the sun.

It'll be the same as in The Flash thread as why he doesn't just run up & disarm everyone or phase through them & call it a day. Eventually it will stop.

But we still get a version of it every week, practically.

He spends a lot of his days being a forensic specialist for the police. Oliver does fuck all.

Another godawful episode. The flashbacks are COMPLETELY ridiculous at this point. And everything else is a snooze fest.

I can't stand this show anymore.

I might wait until the season is done and just marathon it. Watching it week to week is unbearable right now.

Another? You think this weeks and last weeks were bad?? Not sure if we are watching the same show.. Heck, the flashbacks so far have been very small so far.

The flashbacks are Year One. This is what they've been promising us for a long time. I'm happy about the flashbacks after last weeks sad bait and switch Hal.

Agreed.
Flashbacks have been contained and I have enjoyed every ep this season so far

I'm enjoying it even less than season 3.

I thought this season was supposed to have a more light-hearted tone, so far I'm not seeing that. Yes the pace is faster, but there is still a lot of moping around and Felicity even cried in this episode again. It's just not fun anymore.

And another Batman villain, I'm sick of it at this point.

I get mad watching this show.

I'd also like to note that despite obviously still having the budget limitations of season two they're clearly trying to up their cinematography and choreography game. They're trying really hard to pull some great shots out of restrictive or reused sets. Of course for unmasked actors it's still hard keeping stunt doubles hidden. Boss Amell doing most of his own stuff though.

This season has been great so far I hope they can keep it going. I wasn't sure about the villain at first but he grew on me fast. I really don't like Anarky being out and out evil though.

Anyone else kind of sad that Mister Terrific wasn't all that terrific?

I mean I guess the reason is that at his peak intelligence he would be way too broken for the show and it's Curtis not technically Michael. But I was a bit sad we didn't get someone who was as self assured as say Ray was. He's young too I suppose.

I would've loved for him to just swagger (modestly) in and be like "My name is Curtis Holt and I am the smartest man alive" then put a Fair Play jacket and rock some T-Spheres.

You should really take that break from the show I think. You're at a stage where you're creating problems that aren't really there.

I'm not even trying to be mean here, I think it's the best advice for you.

I resigned myself to never getting my ideal Mr. Terrific a long time ago. The ideal scenario would have been Michael Jai White playing the Ray Palmer role from last year with a Black Dynamite inspired take on the character.

Alas, it was too beautiful to exist.

Eh give him time. He was likable enough and I'm already looking forward to him designing some crazy shit with Cisco.

Zero, how exactly do you have so much time to post so much in both the Arrow and Flash OTs?
Speedforce is not an acceptable answer

I ain't gotta explain shit.
I always have access to the internet, ignore the rest of GAF and don't sleep a lot.

Also I haven't posted my full thoughts on the episodes yet woo!

My issue with the flashbacks is that their response to people disliking season 3's flashbacks is to just throw Oliver back on the island to stand against yet another group that just so happened to end up there.

I would've preferred if they'd stayed in Central City and we got buddy cop antics with Hal but Year One is pretty good too.

How does Ollie's haircut in the flashbacks make sense?

Amell doesn't like wigs. That's how it makes sense.

well he has like two years to grow it back out right?

and that glorious Green Arrow beard (or the closest we will ever got it )

Did I miss something, but why does Ollie have no issue with Diggle continuously murdering people by shooting them in the face, but he gets upset when Thea breaks a guys arm?

Is Diggle using magic bullets or something?
It would be strange for Diggle to be using lethal rounds as he was the one blaming Oliver for killing people. Thea resorts to torture.

To be fair. Some of the scenes with flash fighting a bad guy are stupid. The battle between him and captain cold/heatwave was cringe worthy bad.

He runs full speed in between them and he couldn't have done anything to them? Only way to beat two normal humans with guns and no armor was to make them cross streams lol.

Then in the recent episode he uses his speed to get close to sand demon and punches him.

People have to let go of the idea of the fights making sense, because if they did, we wouldn't have a show.

What Skux said, basically. The Flash's speed has never been portrayed consistently and never can, really, or else he would only be fighting other speedsters.

So they're stuck: make his speed believable enough for a regular human to compete and miss out on the cooler things Barry can do or have his powers be a little inconsistent and be able to tell whatever story you want.

I think they make the right choice.

I see.

Is two years enough?
This is 20 months of growing a beard:

So, Oliver's got some time. If anything him being off the island so much actually makes sense, as a five year beard would be really, really, really long.

Twist: The hair and beard from the season premiere is actually a wig that Oliver wore to disguise his identity after being found out as one of Waller's agents.

Hmm, okay, what about (not beard) hair?

Why do you have me looking at weird beard enthusiast forums?!

But this is a gentlemen with well under 2 years of hair growth (approximately a year, it seems):

pJN0QUh.jpg

It's definitely achievable. I don't think we'll see him cut his hair again after this, though.

Edit: While I'm being weird about beards, here is a higher quality shot of Oliver's beard in the pilot:

Wow I am really enjoying Arrow much more than last season. Dahrk has been fantastic and really has a presence that rivals Slade himself. Happy Ollie is a great Ollie, also helps with the contrast between his present and past self. I didn't expect the Mayoral plotline this season but I would love it if Ollie finally grew the beard.

I guess all of that is possible. Still, I don't know why they bothered to keep his hair long all this time in the flashbacks if they were just going to cut it 4 years in and then immediately start over.

.

I think it also depends on how the translate it to live action. Cold and heatwave just stood on that one spot practically the entire time trying to show him directly. Maybe if they were moving around being more dynamic things and using creative ways to try to stop the flash. Isn't that why underdog characters are the most interesting? They have to be creative when trying to stop someone with God like abilities.

I just want them to make it a bit more believable.

Similarly I wish they did the same with arrow. That opening scene in episode 1 with canary and speedy on the motorcycle was so bad. Seriously? Those henchmen couldn't hit them when they are so close and barely swaying from side to side???

Also don't like how Oliver and the cast have such an easy time dealing with non-boss baddies. They always walk away without a scratch. I had this issue with the avengers movies. What makes daredevil so great is despite Matt having world class fighting skills he gets his ass beat down too and u can see the wear and tear the has to go through and what he costs being a superhero every night.

You know all this talk about him growing his hair back out, I have a feeling that by the end of this season in the flashback his hair is still gonna be short.

Amell's hair is set in stone until the end of S5. They'll do a time skip to show hair growth on the island if necessary, otherwise it's staying that length. No beard in the present day, it's not happening until the flashbacks are over per Amell himself and even then it's unlikely.
