Saying "unable" is probably lying, since you can create your PSN account for any country you want without using VPN. Unless they will require you to create this account for the same country as your Steam ccount.
And all the info you give them can be completely fake. Sony won't ban you for "qwertuoyoeiropeoriuwo" name but if your account gets compromised, you may need to repeat to support what you entered.

Outside launchers are a common thing on PC, but it's not common to enforce additional accounts and logins months after the game has been released, especially for a service that's not supported worldwide. That's the main controversy, Sony should've made that requirement on day 1 instead of taking money from everyone and then changing the deal.
Suddenly having to use a VPN to play a legally purchased game is also not normal or healthy.

Some gamer’s just don’t have corporate shrines at home they worship all day long. Especially outside of Xbox und Sony world.
If you force your consumers into an new, unknown, not established ecosystem they never agreed with at the moment of purchase months back you have to expect a huge backslash.
They don’t ever care to explain it or convince their customers. They just want to force them like dump sheeps. Feel free if you want to be a sheep. I understand everyone who feels offended.

It’s mainly down to the fact the game was working completely fine for months on PC without this requirement.
I think PC players are angry about the fact they are clearly being asked to do something completely unnecessary and unhelpful to them, which only benefits Sony.
Problem is, the world is full of way too many console warriors who can’t bring themselves to criticise any move the company they love makes.
It’s not the biggest disaster In the world by any means, but it is a crappy move on sony’s part to suddenly require this now… driven by nothing but greed.

Some people from China and Philippines have reported getting banned when trying to use a VPN to create/link a PSN account. This could really be a big issue.

Anybody thinking this is ok. Y’all wrong. It be ok if it was at launch. But waiting months later after you taken ppl money and stuff. Nah. Even crazier when you know the biggest supporters are on the pc. Then the fact some ppl can’t play the game now. After they spend money on it and more on micro transactions.

Link to those posts? Sony has never banned anyone on consoles for VPN. And you don't even need VPN to create PSN account (unless you live in China or Russia, tough luck then).

PSN accounts are different because they're hardlinked to the PS Store of the country you're in. That's an issue since PSN is available in 69 countries but there are roughly 190 independent countries currently. Anyone in a non supported country will have to lookup the address details of a random person or company in a supported country in order to create a fake but valid PSN account with complete address details.

I play on PS5 so this is a non-issue for me. I've put in over 100 hours so far into HD2. Despite the random crashes and bugs, it's been an amazing experience. I feel bad for Arrowhead.

You are probably right, people that bought the game in many countries can't actually use it anymore, but it's ok just sign up using a different country right? Thing is they shouldn't have to as the game was purchased before this was a thing.
It was Arrowhead that disabled it in the game in the first place when they were having issues.

Wasn't it always required? I recall reading at launch that Sony temporarily disabled PSN accounts for Helldivers because of the server stability. Now they fixed it... so why are people pretending like this came out of nowhere?
